11 Things You Should Know About Duck Dynasty By Joe Carter The Gospel Coalition

D

uck Dynasty is a series on A&E that shows the lives of the Robertson family, a Louisiana clan who became wealthy from their family-operated duck call business. The beards are back for the fourth season of cable TV’s highest rated reality show. Here are eleven things you

“God is the reason for our success. Family values are not attainable without a faith in and relationship with God” - Kay Robertson should know about reality television’s most gospel-centric family. 1. Why Duck Dynasty matters: Poised to be the biggest cable show of all time, Duck Dynasty is the highest rated show on TV to consistently portray a family that is unapologetic about their

Christian faith and their affection for one another. The pop culture phenomenon is making it harder for television executives to ignore the demand for shows that portray families who put God first in their lives. 2. In 2012, Duck Dynasty topped Facebook’s list of most mentioned television shows. When the show returned for season three, the premiere was the most watched show of the night, beating out ratings giants American Idol and Modern Family. 3. Long before he appeared on the hit A&E series, patriarch Phil Robertson was considered the “Billy Graham of duck hunting.” His first public-speaking opportunity came in the early 1990s when he was asked to give a duck-calling seminar at the Superdome in New Orleans before 1,000 people. After talking about duck calls and hunting, Robertson reached into his bag and pulled out his Bible. “Folks, while I’m here,” he said, “I think I’m gonna preach you a little sermon.” Afterwards, he received other opportunities to speak and preach and was soon booked years in advance to talk to churches and other organizations. 4. Phil Robertson on the sanctity

of life: “You have a God-given right to live, in all places, inside your mother.” 5. Alan Robertson, the beardless eldest son, recently joined the show after being off-camera for the first three seasons. He tells why he feels on why the family is doing the show now: I really feel like God had prepared us for such a moment as this. And when America needs some family to say, ‘Hey, we can make mistakes, you know, we can come from nothing -- we can have all these things now, but ultimately none of it matters except that we’re saved, and we’re going to be in heaven with Christ forever.’ 6. Kay Robertson on family values: “God is the reason for our success. Family values are not attainable without a faith in and relationship with God.” 7. Lisa Robertson, Alan’s wife, on taking their message beyond the physical congregation: “To have a great church is good. But there is people out there that’s not ever going to darken the doors that we have here. And they may not ever darken the doors of any church building.

Holding on to Pedro by Paula McBride My new student, six-year-old Pedro can’t walk. Well, he is he learning to get around in his miniature walker, but he doesn’t quite have the hang of lifting it up and setting it down to change directions. It’s still hard for him to drag one foot forward without it getting tangled up in the other. He gets tired, and sits down. He has his own way of getting around when he’s on the floor, kind of a frog hop that must really hurt his hands.

That’s Pedro, with a wide smile and cheery attitude. Everything seems new and delightful to him. I love to be the one holding on to guide him from his chair to his walker. Today I held him on a yoga ball, first on his stomach and then on his back. He wanted a turn with the other students who were standing on balance apparatus, so a helper and I held him there. We held him as he maneuvered along a row of desks to get back to his.

Pedro’s classmates clapped and cheered his success, and his smile grew even wider. I wonder if God saw His beloved servant, David, struggling to walk. Certainly David got himself in enough trouble to cripple himself, but God didn’t turn away. Instead, through the writer of Psalm 89, God says, “I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him so that my hand shall be established with him. My arm also shall strengthen him” (verses 20-21). When I read those verses, I remember the great delight and warm satisfaction I have when I am the one strengthening Pedro. Can it be that the God of the universe felt that way about strengthening David? Does He feel that way about strengthening you and me? When Pedro first came to school, he didn’t want to walk. He was used to being carried. He’s learning that walking is hard work. And so it is with life. I wish life was like the Lazy River at Sunsplash, but we won’t get far going in circles. We are meant to walk and work and serve. As Pedro walks more, he is going to walk better. The same with us. As we walk with Jesus, holding on to Him even as He holds on to us, we are going to walk better. Then one day, we’ll find we’re walking on streets of gold. And Pedro won’t be using his walker. He’ll be running into the arms of Jesus!

10 Mistakes Christians Should Avoid at All Cost No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. However, here are 10 mistakes that Christians, especially those who are active in ministry, should avoid at all costs. These aren’t the obvious ones that are typically talked about in Christian circles. They are more subtle and less frequently discussed: 1. Refuse to Receive Correction from Genuine Christians Who Have Credibility. 2. Believe Accusations Against Your Brethren Without Going to Them Directly. 3. Make a Cause More Important Than Christ and Do Not Understand the Difference. 4.

Believe the Myth That You Should Only Read the Bible and No Other Christian Books.

5.

Assume that Everyone Who Professes to Have a Ministry is a True Follower of Jesus.

6. Break a Friendship Over an Interpretation of the Bible. 7. Refuse to Have Peers Who Know You Well and Can Speak Into Your Life. 8. Befriend “Christians” Who Falsely Accuse Others on Social Media and Blogs. 9. Be Quick to Defend Yourself Against Attack and Return Evil for Evil. 10. Buy the Lie That Reading Scripture is Unnecessary for Your Spiritual Develop ment and Well-Being. Frank Viola- from Beyond Evangelical - The Blog of Frank Viola. frankviola.org

Heaven's Perfect Design by April James

INSPIRATION Keeping the Faith Stay Inside Your Own Hula-Hoop

You are heaven’s perfect design You are so special to My heart I lovingly handcrafted you Created you uniquely from the start You are a perfect reflection of Me Those characteristics you consider flaws Are merely colossal strengths in disguise That will one day leave the world in awe Do not be afraid to be different You are exquisitely just right As you follow me whole heartedly You will develop newness of sight You are a life that will bless others From the closeness you have with Me Come inside and abide a while Then go forth sharing heaven’s glee

Ronnie McBrayer In the New Testament both Jesus and the Apostle Paul forbid Christians from worrying or being anxious. Neither Paul nor Jesus take a utopian view of worry, as in “don’t ever worry about anything under any conditions.” The focus is on self-obsession. It is a fidgeting self-manufactured anxiety, created by our efforts to fix things, manage people, and create situations that match our unyielding standards. This is why every great spiritual tradition speaks of letting go, denying self, surrendering, and detaching. For when we outdo and outwit our capabilities, we are left with uneasiness, not contentment, the very opposite of what we seek. This is illustrated with a description I recently heard, a description new to me, but one I’m going to sear into my memory banks and no doubt pass on regularly. It’s originally from Jean McLendon, a long-time therapist in North Carolina, but a phrase now used in 12-step work, organizational management, and family counseling. I’d like to apply it to all facets of life – especially spirituality. The phrase is: “Stay inside your own hula-hoop.” McLendon suggests that we are all working through life with a hula-hoop; round and round it goes, representing our life’s labor. But we are certain to let it fall to the ground when we attempt to leave our space and hula-hoop for someone else’s.

We see their ring slip off the hips and fall to the ground. We want to fix it, so we go intervene. Someone else is hulahooping far too fast, so we go to slow them down. Another person has her hoop up dangling around her head – completely unacceptable – so we attempt to put it in its proper place. McLendon says, “You can’t hula someone else’s hoop without messing up your own efforts. You can observe, advise, cheer, and offer support, but as soon as you try to do it for someone else, you get into trouble yourself.” This is much more than “minding our own business,” though that is a helpful, albeit rarely followed piece of advice in its own right. This is actually a healthier, more peaceful way to live. After all, peace is not accomplished by the proper arrangement of our circumstances, as if we could impose our will on the people and things in our orbit. Peace is a path we follow, a discipline we practice, and a restful space we maintain – inside our own hula-hoop. Ronnie McBrayer is a syndicated columnist, speaker, and author of multiple books. “As long as a man is alive and out of hell, he cannot have any cause to complain.” - Charles Spurgeon

IN THE NEWS...

A 12 Point Cure for Complaining By Bill Izard Complaining is unbecoming of the true Christian and yet we are proficient at it. The cure is found in these verses. In Christ we are never hopeless or forsaken. Every trial has meaning. Meditate on this cure in order to change both your language and your heart. 1. God Commands Me Never To Complain. Do all things without complaining and disputing. Philippians 2:14(NAS) 2. God Commands Me To Give Thanks In Every Circumstance. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 3. God Commands Me To Rejoice Always, And Especially In Times Of Trial. Rejoice in the Lord always. Phil. 4:4; Rejoice always. 1 Thessalonians 5:16; Count it all joy when you fall into various trials. James 1:2 4. I Always Deserve Much Worse Than What I Am Suffering Now—In Fact, I Deserve Hell. Why should any living mortal, or any man, offer complaint in view of his sins? Lamentations 3:39 Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered

such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:2-3 5. In Light Of The Eternal Happiness And Glory That I Will Experience In Heaven, This Present Trial Is Extremely Brief And Insignificant, Even If It Were To Last A Lifetime. The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Rom. 8:18; For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. 2 Corinthians 4:19 6. My Suffering Is Far Less Than That Which Christ Suffered, And He Did Not Complain. Who when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when he suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. 1 Peter 2:23 7. To Complain Is To Say God Is Not Just. Shall not the Judge of all the Earth do right? Genesis 18:25 8. Faith And Prayer Exclude Complaining. I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered from all my fears. Psalm 34:4 9. This Difficulty Is Being Used By God For My Good And It Is Foolish For Me

To Complain Against It. And we know that all things work together for the good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 10. Those More Faithful Than I Have Suffered Far Worse Than I, And Did So Without Complaint. …and others were tortured, not accepting their release, in order that they might obtain a better resurrection; and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. All these, having gained approval through their faith… Hebrews 11:35-39 11. Complaining Denies That God’s Grace Is Entirely Sufficient. My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 12. The Greatest Suffering, The Worst Trial Or Difficulty, Can Never Rob Me Of That Which Is Of Greatest Value To Me And My Greatest Joy, Namely The Love Of Christ. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Jihad Against Egypt’s Christians The U.S. Must Speak Out By John Stonestreet In the midst of the chaos, Islamic extremists in Egypt are burning churches and murdering Christians. The U.S. must speak out. Stay tuned to BreakPoint. In his recent book, “Fleeing Herod,” the Australian writer James Cowan retraces the steps of the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt following Joseph’s dream warning him about Herod’s intentions toward the infant Jesus. Cowan admits in the prologue that current events in Egypt made him even more conscious of Egypt’s history and “the millennia of knowledge embodied in its sands.” Cowan’s guide on his journey is a fourth-century text written by a Coptic Pope, Theophilus of Alexandria, entitled “The Visions of Theophilus.” Along the way he meets monks, nuns, pilgrims and the then-Coptic Pope. Whether or not we believe the fourth century reference of Mary being under an Egyptian tree, one Coptic belief is undeniable: “Egypt [is] central to the birth of Christianity.” Thus, Christians must be concerned about what is happening to Coptic Christians today. Since Matthew chapter 2’s quoting of Hosea – “out of Egypt I called my son” – Egypt was at the heart of the Christian story. It provided sanctuary for the Holy Family. And later produced some of the Church’s greatest minds: Tertullian, Origen and the great defender of orthodoxy, Athanasius. The father of monasticism, Anthony, was Egyptian, and, for much of the Church’s early history, Alexandria was the mind and soul of the faith. Many don’t realize that Egypt was Christian for six centuries before the coming of Islam. We call the descendants of those Christians the Copts. For fourteen centuries they and their ancestors have kept the faith even when life would have

been easier if they hadn’t. Little has changed. Today, they face what Nina Shea has called a “Jihad.” The chaos in Egypt, like the chaos in Iraq and Syria, has made it “open season” on the country’s Christian minority. As Shea writes in National Review “The [Muslim] Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party has been inciting the anti-Christian pogroms on its web and Facebook pages.” For those unfamiliar with the term, “pogroms” were the anti-Jewish attacks in Tsarist Russia that killed thousands and led to the emigration of millions of Jews to the United States in the late 19th and early 20thcenturies. The Brotherhood would love to see the Copts do likewise. If they succeed it will be in part because Christians in the West did nothing. Right now, the mainstream narrative about Egypt depicts the Brotherhood as the victims. It is far more concerned with the impact on Egyptian “democracy” than the fate of Egyptian Christians, or that of any Egyptian that doesn’t want to live in a theocracy. They are not telling the story, so we have to. They are not urging our leaders to protect Egyptian Christians, so we have to. We cannot stand by in silence while yet another ancient Christian community is threatened with extinction. Of course, that requires understanding that these are ancient Christian communities in the first place. Many American Christians knowledge of church history barely goes back a century. You might say we have evangelical Alzheimer’s. Because we are unfamiliar with the past, we are ignorant of our debt to those who went before and their descendants. In Cowan’s book, then-Pope Shenouda, who spent the early years of his papacy under house arrest, tells him that it “seemed that [Herod] feared the presence

Chavez also wrote that refusing to work at a same-sex wedding is equivalent to refusing to work at a mixedrace wedding: “Therefore, when Elane Photography refused to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony, it violated the NMHRA in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races.” Elane Photography is not protected by their rights to freely exercise their religion, which are protected by the U.S. Constitution, because the NMHRA

In New Mexico, professional photographers may not refuse to work at gay weddings, that state’s Supreme Court decided Thursday. When Elane Photography refused to work for Vanessa Willock at her same-sex wedding, the Court said, it violated the New Mexico Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in public accommodations based upon sexual orientation. “First, we conclude that a commercial photography business that offers its services to the public, thereby increasing its visibility to potential clients, is subject to the antidiscrimination

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 16, 2013 / Christian Newswire/ Calling for respect for all students, a referendum was filed today to overturn AB 1266, recently signed into law by Governor Brown. The controversial legislation has come to be called “the co-ed bathroom bill” because of its provision that allows children in grades K-12 to choose whatever bathroom or locker room they feel matches their sexual identity. “We respect that some students are struggling with their own sexual identity, but we ask for respect for the other students who will be humiliated when a boy walks into the girl’s locker room,” said Karen England, Executive Director of Capitol Resource Institute. “This is a privacy issue, a safety issue, and a common sense issue.”

RESOURCES 7 Ways Satan Tries to Destroy a Church By Ron Edmondson Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. 1 Peter 5:8 I’m not a pastor who is constantly looking for Satan behind everything that goes wrong. I concentrate my attention on Jesus and encouraging others to follow Jesus and not to focus on the defeated one. Yet, I’m fully aware that Satan loves to destroy…or attempt to destroy…a church. Obviously Satan is a limited being and God’s church is secure. The gates of hell shall never overcome what God started, but Satan certainly loves to disrupt what God’s church is doing. Here are 7 way Satan tries to destroy a church: Church conflict – Satan loves business meetings that get out of hand or when two church members have disagreements outside of church. He loves when church members argue about trivial things, such as colors of the carpet or big things, such as whether to add another service. Doesn’t matter to him. Show him a good argument potential and he’s willing to stir the fire. Burnout – Satan loves to burn out a church volunteer, staff member, or pastor. If he can make them feel they are no longer needed, their work is not appreciated, or that they no longer have anything to offer…he feels he’s winning

part of the battle. Rumors – Satan is the stirrer of dissension. He likes to plant little seeds of a juicy story, about someone in the church or community…sometimes even the pastor or staff…and watch them quickly spread through a church congregation or community. The version, of course, usually grows to a larger portion than reality. Satan likes that too. Busyness – Satan loves to distract church goers with a plethora of activity that produces little results in Kingdom-building. Lies – Satan attempts to interject what he calls a “half-truth”; just a hint of false doctrine and then watch it disrupt or divide a body. Of course, we all know that half-truth is really just a cleaned up version of a bold face lie, but Satan is clever enough to disguise a lie in a way where false teachers gain entry and do damage before being discovered. Scandal – Satan loves a good, juicy, gossipy news headline in the local paper. If it will split, divide or destroy a church body…even better. If it will destroy someone’s Kingdom calling or work…he’ll take that too. Marriage and family disruptions – Satan loves to destroy any relationship, but he also goes after key leader’s marriages; even the pastor’s marriage. He likes to encourage prodigal children. He wants to cause families to fight within the

WWW.AMBASSADORNEWSPAPER.COM church and fight with the church. Satan knows if he can destroy a home, he has a better chance of destroying a church. Thankfully, there is good news: You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 _______________________________Ron Edmondson is pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church. GAY WEDDINGS Cont. from p.9 is a “neutral law of general applicability,” the Court said. This means that the law does not target a specific religious group when it restricts Elane Photography’s religious freedom. In the proceedings, Elane Photography argued that it did not discriminate based upon sexual orientation because it would have photographed same-sex couples in other contexts. It was only the conveyance of a same-sex marriage in the company’s photos that conflicted with the owner’s religious beliefs. In a concurring opinion, Justice Richard Bosson said that Elane Photography must be forced to violate their religious beliefs because of “the tolerance that lubricates the varied moving parts of us as a people. ... it is the price of citizenship.” “The idea that free people can be ‘compelled by law to compromise the very religious beliefs that inspire their lives’ as the ‘price of citizenship’ is a chilling

and unprecedented attack on freedom,” said Jordan Lorence, senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom and one of the lawyers for Elane Photography. “Americans are now on notice that the price of doing business is their freedom. We are considering our next steps, including asking the U.S. Supreme Court to right this wrong.” In a Rasmussen Reports poll of 1,000 adults conducted last month, 85 percent of respondents said that a Christian wedding photographer should be able to turn down work for a same-sex wedding. COMMUNITY Live Oak Sparkles at Festival’s Diamond Jubilee By The Live Oak Festival Committee 2013 marks the sixtieth annual Live Oak Festival. This year’s theme is “Live Oak Sparkles,” honoring the festival’s diamond jubilee. The Live Oak Festival is a celebration of the role agriculture plays in our community. No one imagined 165 years ago that Live Oak’s riches would come from the earth in the form of crops harvested instead of gold. Our community serves as an anchor for the diverse agricultural products grown in California. The Festival begins with a parade in our Historic Commercial District. The parade, which is free to enter, begins at 10:00 a.m. and runs down Broadway. Opening ceremonies follow in Live Oak Memorial Park between O and P streets adjacent to the Live Oak Community Center and the Live Oak Little League baseball fields. The festival grounds open at 11:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. Admission and parking are free! In addition to the parade, free admission, free parking, live entertainment, craft vendors, delicious food, children’s activities, and a wonderful and varied car show, prizes will be given away throughout the day. Everyone is invited to meet Miss Live Oak Festival, and enjoy tons

of other good-old-fashioned family fun. Car enthusiasts would be silly to miss participating in our parade and classic car show. This year there will also be a bicycle rodeo where youth are encouraged to bring their bicycles for safety inspections and free helmets. Spread The Light Puppet Ministries from The Father’s House church will be returning to our stage to perform their famous black light puppet show, along with renown Christian rappers from around the region and other local and professional talent that is sure to please. Saturday, September 21, 2013, there is something for everyone at the Live Oak Festival! Great Family Fun! We hope to see you there! And so, if we can give them a little taste of Christianity, a little taste of God, but in a fun way, to tell them that just because you’re a Christian doesn’t mean that you can’t have loads of fun and laugh all the time and just enjoy what God’s given you.” 8. Although the family is often shown praying at the end of each episode, Phil Robertson says that the show’s producers are frequently uncomfortable with the family’s strong Christian faith. “They pretty much cut out most of the spiritual things,” Robertson told The Christian Chronicle. “We say them, but they just don’t run them on the show.” 9. All of the members of the Robertson family, as well as series regulars John Godwin and Justin Martin, are active members of the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ. Phil and his oldest son Al (who doesn’t appear on the show) serve as church elders. 10. Uncle Si says he always travels with three things: a gallon jug of iced tea, his plastic cup, and his Bible. (He probably also takes his wife. Although the show often gives the impression Si is single, he’s married to Christine. They too are active members of the White’s Ferry Road church.) 11. Friends and relatives estimate that Phil Robertson has baptized

more than 300 people in the river near his home, the Ouachita River. (Editor’s Note: People have different opinions about this show and although I am not consistent viewer/fan, the appeal of the show and its cast is undeniable. The nation has gone “ducky”. No one knows how long this phenomenon will continue, but it is refreshing that viewers need not be subjected to the typical “realityshow” fare involving violent conflict, sexual overtones (at best) and ungodly characters. Although the show may not be may entertainment preference, we should be encouraged that this form of clean entertainment is making a lot of people “Happy, Happy, Happy”!) (This article was adapted for The Ambassador from a combination of “9 things you should know about Duck Dynasty” and “9 (more) things you should know about Duck Dynasty” by Joe Carter) Joe Carter is an editor for The Gospel Coalition (thegospelcoalition.org) and the co-author of How to Argue Like Jesus: Learning Persuasion from History’s Greatest Communicator. Samaritan Village Orphanage Tanzania, Africa Can You Sponsor Baby Lightness?

Baby Lightness (DOB: July 11, 2013)

Our newest baby to join the Samaritan Village family is a baby girl found dumped in a corn field near Arusha on July 11, 2013. Baby Lightness was found in the evening and taken to the local Police station, and then transferred to Samaritan Village on July 14th.. She was not found to have physical injuries, but was crying all the time when first received at Samaritan Village. Since then, she has responded wonderfully to the love and care she is receiving and is now doing well. She continues to need our love and prayers. A gift of $60. monthly will provide care for baby Lightness at Samaritan Village Orphanage. A monthly

The Presbyterian church has reprinted their hymnals excluding an old classic hymn; “In Christ Alone.” Too offensive for them. So I took the liberty of writing a new hymn to replace that one. It is sung to the tune of Amazing Grace. Here it is. It really is written for all denominations that have walked away from the truth of the Word of God. Amazing case how odd the sound On what we did believe We once were found, but now are lost Had sight but now can’t see.

The Lord has walked away from me His Word we have obscured We’ve traded truth to please all men And no longer know God’s Word

‘Twas truth we taught our heart to hear And truth we did believe But pleasing man, not God to fear Caused our hearts to be deceived

Yea, when our flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, We may recall we were possessed And followed after the beast

Though many dangers toils and snares We’ve only just begun Our belief has led us to the place where our members turn and run

When we’ve been there ten thousand years Without the shining Son We weep and mourn through the tears Horrified at what we’ve become

AS WE SEE IT

IS THERE NO SHAME?

By Jon Skillman

Sometimes it feel as if I just passed through the looking glass, or tripped over a progressive euphemism and fallen down a rabbit hole. When did America become Wonderland? When did the Mad Hatter and The Queen of Hearts start defining morality? And when did shameful become prideful? Has shame gone out of vogue? I remember my mom used the word quite frequently when assessing my behavior. “You should be ashamed of yourself?” She would admonish when catching my hand in the cookie jar or a hundred and one other places it shouldn’t have been. And yes, I should have been ashamed but hey, I was a selfish, self-centered kid. But today, even for responsible adults, shame seems to have gone the way of the buttonhook. Take Congressman Anthony Wiener, for example. This married man, took lewd photos of himself and emailed them to a number of women. Now, to me, that’s shameful…to Anthony…not so much. Even though he lost his seat, he didn’t lose his twisted sense of pride, or bear any sense of shame. He continued his pop-art photo spree while at the same time, announcing his candidacy for mayor of New York City. Oddly, this sparked a lively debate on whether personal morality (or in this case a lack thereof) really matters in a political candidate. Are you kidding me? Really? A debate? No sense of shame indicates a lack of character. An immoral personal life trumps integrity. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer character and integrity in

those I choose to represent me. Then there’s the mayor of San Diego who used his position to sexually harass several women…but sees absolutely no reason why he shouldn’t be allowed to remain in office. And when a pro basketball player comes out and admits to living a perverted lifestyle, was it an admission of guilt or an expression of shame? No! It was a perverted act of pride…an act that The President of The United States labeled as…heroic. What the heck happened? Have we become so tolerant that evil has become good… wrong is right…and we are to take pride in what is shameful? “The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored by men.” Psalm 12:8. So what has happened to our sense of shame? I contend it has been replaced by a new selfishness born of the, “politically correct,” edict too not offending. After years of not being offended, we acquired a false sense of freedom…freedom from shame. So hey, sleep with whomever you want. Who would dare question your ethics because it might offend you. Oh, and expectant mom, if that little human fetus you conceived is going to cramp your style… kill it! Who am I to infringe on your “right” to choose not to be offended? Here’s something to consider, even though others may not offend you for what you do…what you do may offend God. And He is not a politically correct god. He is simply the correct God who will ultimately judge you. Take heed… you could be offended.

Our latest section is called IN THE NEWS and this month it features stories about professional photographers being sued and losing because they wouldn’t photograph a gay wedding. This is not in Europe but here in our homeland! Another story tells of the killing of Christians in Egypt. Yet another informs readers about the referendum begun to allow the voters to challenge the recently passed “transgender bathroom bill” If you haven’t read them please do. It is critical to keep up with what is going on under our noses. I watch the 10 o’clock news every night and it usually upsets me (not the best way to go to bed). I know that we can find out what’s going on without watching the nightly news on tv. In fact, we probably won’t get an unbiased perspective anyway! My point is that although The Ambassador is committed to bring helpful and encouraging articles to build you up in the faith through Paula McBride’s wonderful devotional articles and inspirational poems by April James and Elizabeth Hexberg, it is important for us to inform our community about these current issues. It is up to us, the church, to know what’s happening so that we can pray effectively as well as act efficiently. I pray that we will be stirred to get on our knees for our brothers and sisters in Egypt and other parts of the world where persecution is more than an awkward silence or an uncomfortable look. In other cases, like the referendum, we need to DO something. I like the famous quote by Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”. We need to get busy doing “something” We spend far too much time watching television

Seth Halpern - Editor and playing games on Facebook and not enough time about the business of the kingdom of God. If you need direction, look on page 3 for some different ministries to volunteer or partner with and ask the Holy Spirit for His counsel on where to go. The prayer calendar you will find on the previous page will give you plenty of areas for prayer. The event calendar will give you a lot of choices for fellowship and volunteering. There is no lack of opportunity, only a lack of desire and passion. One thing you can do is to join us for lunch each Tuesday at Christian Business Alliance. You will be surrounded by like-minded followers of Jesus who will help you to step up and step out! There is too much that needs to be done and not enough workers and time to do it. Jesus himself said “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” – Matthew 9:37-38 (NIV). Remember the time is short. I don’t know if I’ll be alive tomorrow. Neither do you. Neither does your neighbor. Are you ready? Are they ready? So, let’s get busy. Get informed. Pray and Act! While you’re at it, don’t forget that we need help getting the Word out. If you can help, email us at editor@ ambassadornewspaper.com.
