Shouting about... This month we meet Richard Heyman of... So Richard... how long have you been in the building trade?
I started on a YTS with a national building company from the age of 16. I went on to work for several small companies and I also worked for a major construction company for 10 years before setting up on my own.
Do you have any qualifications?
I have my City and Guilds Certificate and I’ve recently gained my PAT Testing qualification. I’m always really keen to learn new things.
What do you like best about your job?
I love the freedom of working for myself and being my own boss. I also like the fact that I can turn my hand to most things, which makes my job quite varied.
Do you have a favourite type of work?
It has to be re-pointing... even more so when the sun is shining! I’m also really good at it, even if I do say so myself!

So, what are you up to at the moment?
I’ve recently been doing lots of re-plastering jobs which is unusual for this time of year. Over winter when we had all the storms I was doing lots of guttering work.
What do you like doing when you’re not working? I love photography! You’d quite often catch me around Lumbsdale near Tansley with a camera and a backpack.
And finally... Why should people choose you over other builders? I have many years of experience and have carried out every type of building job over the years. I’ve been a Trusted Trader for nearly 5 years now and have built up a large amount of customer feedback, all of which is positive. I’m happy to travel further a field and always provide customers with a free and friendly estimate... but it might cost you a cup of coffee!

The publishing deadline date hampered a full knockout guide but here are dates and times for the knockout stages! What we do know is that England will not be featuring. Two poor results, albeit against good opposition, will mean an early flight home for Roy and his boys. The biggest shock was the removal of Spain, although like we mentioned in last months article, the Champions do often fall at the first hurdle in the following World Cup.

If like me you were a young teenager in the 60’s you might have sat in the sun covered in various oils, or even with no protection at all until your skin went a lovely shade of pink! Little did we know the harm we were doing. We now all really know better and want our skin to age as slowly as possible, so why not consider faking it? By this I am not advocating sun beds for arti�icial rays which can still put your skin at great risk, but why not apply an arti�icial tan that will last from about 4 to 10 days? Punnet of Strawberries 6 meringue nests 300 ml double cream Morello Cherries Juice of 1 lemon Dash of balsamic vinegar ♦ Sprinkling of granulated sugar ♦ Chocolate shavings
Hull and chop the strawberries and put into a bowl. Add a little sprinkling of sugar, lemon juice and balsamic vinegar and leave to one side while you whip the cream. Whip the cream in a large bowl until thick adding a little sugar if desired. Crumble the meringue nests into the whipped cream. Fold in the strawberries. Add a few of the morello cherries into the bottom of each of the serving glasses. Spoon in the meringue and strawberry mixture and decorate with a few chocolate shavings and a single strawberry on the top.

20 A special thanks to our friends at JH Legal who have provided another fab walk for us all to enjoy this month. One of the things I love about doing these walks is getting to explore new places, that ordinarily I wouldn’t have found. This walk is a prime example of this and I hope you enjoy it as much as we all did, especially Rafa! 6 mile circular from Pinxton to Kirkby-in–Ashfield A moderate and varied walk for you and your dog. The route should take around 3 hours. There are a couple of difficult uphill sections a couple of stretches of road. The terrain is generally good but as with all walks if it will depend on the conditions. A good pair of boots is a must for the up/downhill sections.
1. Exit the Car Park and turn left down Victoria Road. Take the �irst left onto Church Street East and follow the road to a T-junction. Cross the road and turn right before almost immediately taking a signposted footpath on your left. 2. Follow the path between the buildings to reach another road. Cross diagonally right and continue on the signposted footpath. Pass underneath the motorway and continue along the tarmac path until it bears slightly right into a �ield. 3. Keeping the hedge on your left continue along the edge of the �ield, bearing right at the far end and continue along the edge of the �ield. After a short distance bear left and slightly downhill to cross a footbridge into another �ield. 4. With the hedge on your right skirt along the edge of the �ield. At the far side follow the path straight ahead into a small wooded area. After a short distance cross a stile next to a metal gate and turn right uphill to cross another �ield. der Reaffer 5. At the top of the hill cross a stile into another O �ield. Keeping the hedge on you left head up this �ield and go over a stile onto a lane. 6. Turn left and after a short distance bear right at a junction. Then as the lane bends left take a metal kissing gate on your right into a �ield. 7. Keeping the hedge on your right continue ahead. Pass a pylon and continue until you reach a stile on your right. Cross the stile into another �ield and cross the �ield to pass through a gap. with every purchase of 8. 7. Continue straight ahead and uphill. At the top carry on to reach a tall hedgerow. Keeping the hedge on your right carry on ahead until the path turns into a lane and leads to a road. Turn left on the road until you reach a signposted bridle path on your left (Doles Lane) 8. Continue along the bridle path for some distance, past a large barn and bungalow on your right and a four-way signpost on your left. The path descends, bearing right then left, then continues onto a metal gate in front of you. At this point bear left between two hedgerows. 9. Continue to descend gently, bearing sharp right and eventually left along the edge of a wooded area. Continue alongside the wooded area for sometime then bear right downhill into a dip. Cross over a stream and head straight uphill out of the woods and into a �ield. 10. Keeping the hedge on your right continue uphill to eventually pass through a farmyard and a metal gate to reach a road. Turn left along the road. Ignoring the signposted footpath on your left take the next signposted bridle path, also on the left. 11. Follow the bridle path downhill to pass a telegraph pole. Keep the hedge on your right and continue downhill to cross a wooden footbridge. Continue uphill and through a wooden gate where the path turns into a lane. Continue straight and the lane bends sharp right, then sharp left. Continue for some distance until you reach a road. 12. Turn right along the road, passing under the motorway and onto a cross roads. Cross straight over onto Wharf Road. Continue along the road until you reach Victoria Road on your right. Turn up here and continue until you arrive back at the car park on your right. This walk is for illustrative purposes only. There is a range of sturdy padlocks, padbolts, hasps and staples available on the market, but make sure you get one that is appropriate to the strength of your shed door and frame. Remember that any opening windows on your shed will also require a good quality lock. In addition to a lock, you may wish to consider �itting an alarm on your shed. There are three types of alarm system that could be used: ♦ An infra-red detector in the shed that picks up on movement and body heat. ♦ A door contact system. ♦ An alarm within the padlock itself, which sounds if the lock is forced open or tampered with. These systems can be purchased from most DIY stores and locksmiths. Another aspect of protecting your garden shed is that the items inside it - as well as being expensive to replace - can also be used to break into your home. For example, a garden spade could be used to force open a window or door. Take these items into consideration when planning the security of your shed and think about chaining and padlocking tools that could assist a thief.

Gardener’s Calendar - July 2014 It’s tempting to say that July is the time to sit in the garden and enjoy your hard work with a glass of something cool in your hand – but there are still things to do if you’re that way inclined…….Cut back plants such as geraniums after their �irst �lush of �lowering to encourage a second strong growth.
Plant autumn bulbs such as nerine and autumn �lowering crocus. It isn’t only dahlias and helianthum which can provide later colour.

This is often the warmest month so it’s the best time to let conservatory plants have a bit of fresh air and put them outside.

Keep inspecting your lilies for red lily beetle and get rid by whatever means – they can completely strip a plant within days, including your beautiful �lowers. Also watch out for plants dying out suddenly in a pot – it could be vine weevil, particularly if you’ve bought them from a garden centre. These ‘orrible little pests eat through the roots so you have to bin any affected plants, along with the compost and replant any not affected, in fresh compost.

After a few months of complaints I’m going to try and not upset anyone this time, just to make Emily’s life a little easier. I was working from home the other day and had the windows open, I could hear the sports day at Swanwick Hall, I heard over the tannoy that my daughter had won the 200m and pride just rushed through me, as an aside she also won the long jump and relay. Well done to Harry Wyld, who won his long jump event but failed by 10mm to break the school record, you’ll learn through life Harry that the last 10mm is very important in certain situations, he’s in for a stressful summer as his Dad, Mark will no doubt send him on a crash course in Athletics. This all got me thinking that it’s nearly 40 years since my last school sports day, where has the time gone? I seem to troll along thinking nothing’s changed and the realisation hits that I’m getting old. I’m at the stage where my hair is like grass, it doesn’t grow where I want it to, but does grow in the places where I don’t need it. I’m doing some building work at home, which I haven’t done for nearly 10 years and I can feel the pain, it never used to hurt like this but I’m aching like George Michael after a night with Elton
John. I don’t think I’m quite ready to be installed as the favourite in the sweep as the first customer at the new crem, but I know that more than half of my life has gone. Bugger it, I’m going to enjoy the last bit. So on to a moan, who let Michael ‘skull cracker’ Wheatley go home for the weekend? There’s a clue in his nick name for Christ’s sake, he absconded and attempted to rob a few building societies, and tried, you guessed it, to crack a few skulls. Someone must have signed a document to let him out of prison. ‘Here you go skull cracker, the Governor says you can have a few days off, now behave yourself and make sure you come back’. Who are these idiots that take these sort of decisions? Are they educated? Have they just attended a ‘who can we let out next to rape and pillage the population’ seminar? It’ll be Sutcliffe next, let out for the day to attend the Tour de France in Yorkshire. He’ll nick a racing bike and be off to his old haunts. There’s a few of us going to watch the tour in God’s county, so if I see the Ripper then I’ll let you know. And, finally If I have offended anyone then tough t*****s and get a grip.
