HOW DID YOU SPEND YOUR TIME DURING THE RECENT LOCKDOWNS?

If you rediscovered an interest in model trains then you might be interested in joining the Clay Cross Model Railway Society. We can help you improve your layout or even just get started, acquire new skills or get more out of the hobby. Perhaps you have been in the hobby for a while and want to meet like minded enthusiasts?

We meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening in our own premises in Clay Cross, and have a few vacancies for new members. We have two 00 gauge layouts being worked on and a 7mm narrow gauge model of the Ashover Light Railway station at Chesterfield Road. One of the 00 gauge layouts, a model of Hindlow station, has been seen at model railway exhibitions as far away as Spalding before the Pandemic shut everything down. Chesterfield Road is our first attempt at building a DCC controlled layout and is being used to teach members about the mysteries of DCC systems. Designed as an exhibition layout, there are plans to extend it if it is successful.

Our members come from all over the surrounding district from Inkersall to Tibshelf and Rowsley, and have a range of skills from beginner to experienced. Members are encouraged to take part in building or maintenance of one of our layouts, sit and discuss railway matters with other members, or even bring their own projects in and work on them, and perhaps ask for advice. During the summer months, in addition to our regular evening meetings, we arrange garden meetings at members’ homes, where you can see other members’ work. We also arrange group visits to railway related locations and events.

If you are interested or would like more information or to book a visit then call the society;
