LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Happy Holidays!
T
his is one of my favorite times of year. I love the fall colors and fall outerwear. Give me a great coat, a ton of scarves and some cute boots and that is the makings of a great day for me. Then you have the time with family and friends, the food, and just all the festivities of this time of year. This issue is filled with advice. We have some great new writers coming out and it is filled with love and ambition as always! With the holidays upon us I ask that everyone takes some time out to do two things. The first thing I request of everyone is to tell those around you that you care about them. Life is short and very unexpected so make sure that your family knows how you feel. The second thing I challenge everyone to do is a random act of kindness. These are two things I am challenging myself to as well. Have a great holiday season and New Year! 9 STEP 9 :
DELEGATION
When starting/ maintaining a business it can be difficult to delegate tasks and projects to other people. This is not always due to you being better at that particular task but there is a level of control that you don’t want to release. Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary. For instance, with Ambition Magazine…. I am by far not an artistic person. So instead of giving you lackluster graphics we have an amazing graphic artist that has the ability to make sure that every magazine embodies the vision. If I had to do the graphics I can promise most of you would stop reading Ambition. But seriously… You are not giving your consumers your best when you are not providing them with the highest quality of work. Are you really giving anything 100% if you are the CEO, accountant, secretary, HR, janitor, marketing, advertising and every other position under the sun? Probably not! Now the expectation is not for you to wake up Monday and hire people in all of these positions. Pace yourself. What is most important to you? Can you complete this to the standard/ degree you desire? If the answer is No then that is your 1st area to start with. Find a suitable employee and go forward from there. Also hire interns, I have/had some great interns with great instincts. They have really added to the publications. It is one of the hardest steps you will take as a business owner, but it is also one of the most necessary steps. People will make mistakes and you have to remember that you too made mistakes and you are still making them. As long as people are professional enough to admit and correct their mistakes they are worth working with. When dealing with someone who wants to hide mistakes, that can be costly and those people you cannot afford. Delegate! Delegate smart! Delegate often!

HOME FOR THE
Thanksgiving and Christmas are quickly approaching. This means its time for families to come together and share what they are thankful for and just be happy in one another’s company. But sometimes the holidays bring in extra stress especially if you are bringing that special person around for the first time.
have to cling by their side at all moments but be mindful of who you left them with. The fact that your significant other agreed to be with you and your family during this time means that you are important to them and that they want to be around your family. However, they do not want the third degree from your mama, daddy, grandma, tee tee and your cousins. Also try to include them in any conversations and if needed, let them know the back story. This way they don’t feel left out. Trust me your night will go A LOT smoother if you make your girlfriend/boyfriend/fiancée feel welcomed versus feel-

Quest For CONSCIOUSNESS tions of the perceived world, understanding them, in proper context, and speaking up against things unjust. Freire based his research on the effects of this. In his book, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Freire expands on the difference between the oppressed and the oppressor and uses the current education process as an example. It is an interesting concept that he has discovered and analyzed because it suggests a revamp in the regulated education systems. This divide in people often leads to inequality in treatment and respect given. The treatment of the oppressed is consistently unjust and unfair, and Freire served his life trying to change this. Traditional schooling has strict implications and is view by Freire as oppressive. This method, explained by Freire as the banking method, gives all the power to the teacher. In the banking concept of education, knowledge is a gift bestowed by those who consider themselves “knowledgeable”, upon those whom they consider to know nothing. The more students work at storing the deposits entrusted to them, by the teacher, the less they develop the critical consciousness which would result from their intervention in the world, and also as transformers of that world. The student is then an empty container, an object, not a human, being filled with the deposits of the one teaching. This approach is misguided because there is little or no room for inquiry or investigation, when in fact; it is the constant inquiry and investigation that leads to wisdom. Because of this demeaning process, the student is done an

injustice by being directed to adapt and conform to the material as it is taught and presented, not realizing that they have the right to challenge the material at hand and develop there own interpretation of the facts drawing parallels and connections to other things in their life and the world. The chance to discover and uncover knowledge is limited by the presentation of answers given. The unfortunate situation of the oppressor and the oppressed and the continuing of unfairness of that relationship never neutralizing is maintained in the education systems. In the US, education is highly accepted and recognized to today’s society as an essential piece to success. Going “to school” is a necessity for acceptance in our world. But what if “school” is unequal? What if “school” is oppressive. Can it still be the key to the future? I think Paulo Friere’s theories and teaching answered crucial question and provided interesting solutions that are still relevant today. When education is unequal it becomes a dividing factor, a class separator, a respect or disrespect giver and an inhibitor or advancer. In many cases, a lack of knowledge seems to justify receiving unfair treatment. Better education equals better people and more power. Free will education that only guides the students to develop their own opinions on issues of importance is key. The free dialogue between educators and “educatees”

is where true learning commences. Getting here will be a transition. This form of praxis, though rare, may be the key to advancing knowledge and promoting learning to both parties. This dialogue, which contains reflection and action, demands transformation. This dialogue is what makes us humans and not mere creatures; gaining the ability to be critical about any and everything, demonstrating this newfound ability to think and understand whatever is before us is translated as true knowledge. With this understanding comes acceptance, and this acceptance leads to tolerance, and with tolerance comes a deeper knowledge of others and ourselves by allowing freedom, and escaping the oppressive powers so easily enforced. This is where the paradigm shift begins. We are limitless, and once there is a consistent realization of this, change comes, and I hope that change is contagious and never ending. It is a continuous process that is constantly evolving at various rates. A human’s relationship with the surrounding world should be plural and multi-faceted, enhanced by reflection and not mere reflex, but
the appropriate combination of word and work and praxis. The only thing consistent about life is its inconsistency. The student teacher relationship is not equal and opposite but constantly changing with each situation and discussion. Through learning, there is always more to know, through exploration there is always more to find, through understanding there is always more to consider, and through action there is always more to do. Repeat. The importance of being critical and inquisitive can be undervalued in many situations. Using the typical educational model of teacher/ student roles fails to encourage the very thing it is meant to do, which is learn. In honor of ambition, the definition, I encore you make KNOWVEMBER a month of insight for you and those you care about! I think Paulo would agree...

The tale chronicles a married church leader’s affair with married parishioner and how their spouses deal with the revelation of these illicit actions. “My relationship with the church changed as I wrote this play”,commented Variste.
onald Variste was born in Miami,Florida. His parents struggled during his childhood, but their active spiritual life was a deep foundation upon which his home would be built. As a youth, Variste was active in his school and always enjoyed journaling ,but did not consider that it would become a major life passion of his. During Variste’s freshmen year of college, his creative writing professor noted that he was very talented and humorous. He encouraged Variste to pursue this form of expression further.
“My teacher was so engaged with the characters in a story I wrote”,said Variste,I knew then that I was a writer.” Shortly after that,Variste realized that his church has never put on a Christmas production. He penned his first play,”The Reason For The Season” a holiday show designed just for his
“As I was challenging myself to become a better writer, I was also taking a new view of things.” He went on to explain that “People are People, we all make mistakes, that’s why the subtitle of the play ‘there are no perfect churches, only a perfect GOD’. This play is about the Relationship with GOD. So many people have been hurt by their churches because of lifestyle or pregnancy or homosexuality. They feel hurt, rejected or condemned. I wrote this play to bring people back to the church and back to God.” Variste equates going to church with going to the hospital if one is sick . If someone has cancer, for example, but ends up in a podiatrist’s office, they are still seeing a doctor, but may not be getting treatment for what is actually troubling them. “You have to go to the right doctor,”said Variste. “You can out grow a church, but still have so much to offer by ministering to others from the training you gained” he said. Perhaps this is part of the reason Variste transitioned to a non-denominational church, TREE OF LIFE FELLOWSHIP. His pastor, Tony Ervin, has been nothing but supportive in helping Donald to put on his production. Also helpful has been his promoter, Justice AP Enterprise. “THE CHURCH HURTS” hit the stage on August 3rd, in Sanford ,FL. THE AGE OF AMBITION: How Social Entrepreneurship is Creating Today’s Young Leaders
I
magine an awkward silence falling over a room after a guest speaker recounted an unconventional response of “Good” to an audience member’s discussion on the difficulty of finding a job after graduation. The comfortless nature of that response seemingly contradicts what we think to be true: that hardworking graduates could easily land a well-paying job after graduation. However for thousands of young college graduates, not landing a job, after graduation has become an unforgiving certainty. But is this necessarily a bad thing? Before we throw ourselves to the mercy of irrational thinking, let’s consider a couple of key points. The generation of our grandparents were born into the worst economic times in American history. Yet despite being faced with obstacles of gargantuan proportions such as the Great Depression, they met these challenges head on and ultimately brought our country into prosperity for decades to come. Looking at the present, young people were not forced to innovate or create their own careers by identifying untapped market opportunities, until now. Our current economy that so many of us curse constantly can ironically be considered a blessing in disguise. Despite the weak labor market that leaves many young college graduates either jobless or underemployed in positions that do not commensurate with their degree, a growing number of young people are embracing a new way of overcoming these challenges. They call themselves Social Entrepreneurs, the 21st century’s answer to an age old socioeconomic problem. Social
Entrepreneurs are remarkable young minds that identify and tackle social problems on a large scale. They are regarded as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities that others overlooked in order to advance sustainable solutions that generate social value. Dauntingly complex modern problems such as global warming, diminishing natural resources and many other challenges, has turned today’s generation to social entrepreneurship as a means to wield the power of the private sector to yield positive change while creating a living for themselves in the process. Our current generation now have the opportunity, through unprecedented levels of entrepreneurship and innovation, to solve deeply entrenched market failures that public policy or charity could not solve alone, sending the message that profit does not have to come at the expense of the planet. The result is a revolution that has fundamentally changed the way society organizes itself and how society approaches social problems. Social entrepreneurship has undoubtedly created high expectations. It is widely embraced as the new approach to overcoming poverty and social exclusion while serving as a new mechanism for solving social ills and satisfying the human and ecological needs of our society. The static and dynamic impact of social entrepreneurship has lead to a new “career field” so to speak for many upcoming college graduates. Although seeking a job after graduation still remains a first mind among new graduates, social entrepreneurship is quickly becoming a rewarding and more appealing “win-win” alternative. HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL WRITER
By: LaNette Kincaid
It’s no secret that more and more business owners are following the footsteps of bloggers. As business owners, we are learning that bloggers are normally supportive of other bloggers writings – good or bad. At least that’s what I thought when I started my blog a year ago. Honestly, because I’ve been writing for over 2 years for several media outlets, I’ve never really considered myself as a blogger. It wasn’t until I received best blogger notoriety from Examiner.com in 2012 that I began to classify myself as both blogger and writer. At the moment, I wouldn’t consider myself as a “successful” writer per se, but I’m very grateful for the opportunities that my writings have 23

So here’s how to be successful at writing or blogging: 1.Find your audience: Ask yourself, what’s the purpose of your writing? Who are you writing for? Once you define who you’re writing for,the rest is easy. So find your niche! 2. Be Consistent: Whether it’s for a blog or just general writing, Tim Gillett, a well know Dallas author and radio host, suggests that bloggers stay consistent and he uses weekly themes to keep his blog consistent. 3. Organize your writings: I never thought about writing in an organized fashion until I met Shafonne Myers of Pretty Pear Bride Magazine, who uses uses an editorial calendar to keep her blogs organized. Recently, I stumbled onto a blog site http://www.myjoyfilledlife.com who offers an 2014 organizer that will save any writer’s life. Especially if you’re a beginner. 4. Be original: Please use your own ORIGINAL work. I know we see other writers and bloggers steal writings, but that’s plagiarism even if you change or rearrange words. It’s still stealing! Also, plagiarizing is not worth losing your writing credibility. 5. Use all of your ideas! Your ideas may seem distorted to you when you write them, but you never know where your blog post could end up.
