huck Robinson, owner of Napoleon’s Itch, in anticipation of the 2004 grand opening of the now famous club located at 734 Bourbon and St. Ann within the world famous Bourbon Orleans Hotel. The Bourbon Street Extravaganza is a live concert, outdoors on the corner of St. Ann and Bourbon, and kicks off at 5pm the Saturday of Decadence, September 1, and is the 3rd show in what has become an annual event, free to the public, and funded by Napoleon’s Itch. This concert is endorsed by the Mayor and the City Council, drawing some 13,000 of the 120,000 Southern Decadence visitors, and has become the single largest event in the Southern Decadence Festivities. From the first 2004 show the talent has included Martha Wash, Jeanie Tracy, Inaya Day, and Amber, along with a professional two hour staged production featuring the presentation of the “Men of Napoleon’s Itch” and the “Bourbon Pub Parade Dancers,” culminating in a grand finale involving all the dancers and stars on stage. It is, says Robinson, a concert and a half-time show all rolled into one. After a four year determination, Chuck Robinson has finally secured the appearance of Deborah Cox, Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here, and Jeanie Tracy, Cha Cha Heels will be returning for her 3rd performance at the Bourbon Street Extravaganza. Jeanie is, says Chuck, “my tradition.” Frederick Ford joins the 2007 show with hits like Turn My World Around and Mat Jordan, a Louisiana native, will debut this year, as a new and developing act for Robinson, doing both solo performance and joining Jeanie Tracy and Frederick Ford in a production number of Purple Rain. The show just gets bigger and more exciting, says Chuck. This is my first year to double the number of artists, and my first year to have two fabulous male stars along with two major Divas. booths, and tiny movie theater — was a place both notorious and beloved. When the city knocked it down to build Armstrong Park, the Adonis vanished, and with it went a gold mine of queer history. That’s all set to change on Saturday, August 25th as the Phoenix opens an exhibit of the original Adonis signs, discovered just seconds before they were to be destroyed in the cleanup from Katrina. Or so the story goes. “If locals don’t remember the Adonis,” local artist Skylar Fein says, “that may be because it never existed.” In fact, Fein dreamed up the Adonis and created all the historical signage from scratch. It’s a fantasy that’s based in reality. “We have hundreds of years of history to be proud of. You think the Baratarian pirates were straight?” Fein says. “This is my way of honoring those who came before us.” The Adonis has an imaginary history [continued on Main-6]

he 2007 NO/AIDS Walk is shaping up to be a an exciting event this year. ustin - Texas Gay Rodeo Association’s (TGRA) Capital City Rodeo offers two full days of rodeo action on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23. Rodeo proceeds benefit local charitable organizations, such as the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin, AIDS Services of Austin and Project Transitions Inc. The Rodeo action will be held in the Travis County Expo Center nestled in the beautiful hill country that surrounds Austin, Texas. In addition to Bull Riding, Barrel Racing and Team Roping, entertainment events such as Goat Dressing, Steer Decorating and Wild Drag Racing may not be your normal rodeo events, but will definitely provide lots of fun and laughter for this 24th anniversary Texas celebration. Men and women will be competing in 13 rodeo events. Prize ribbons will be awarded to the top five contestants / teams in each event, each day and the combined scores from the weekend determine the buckle winner in each event. Church in First Permanent Home Since Hurricane Ivan

ensacola - An institution that has served the people of Northwest Florida for three decades is about to begin a new chapter in its work. Having been without a permanent meeting space since Hurricane Ivan, Holy Cross Metropolitan Community Church is dedicating its new home, located at 3130 West Fairfield Drive in Pensacola. The dedication is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 19 at 2pm. Friends from throughout the community are welcome. In addition to Holy Cross MCC pastor the Rev. Sandra O’Steen, guests expected at the dedication include the Rev. Elder Lillie Brock, an equivalent to a bishop in most denominations; the Rev. Steve Urie, from the MCC in Eureka Springs, Ark.; the Rev. Lee Carlton, a former Holy Cross pastor and current pastor of Cornerstone MCC in Mobile, Ala, and the Rev. Jo Crisco, a former associate pastor at Holy Cross and current pastor at New Hope MCC in Montgomery, Ala. The dedication will include a message from Rev. Elder Brock as well as performances by the church’s choir and praise team. A reception will follow. Holy Cross MCC was founded in 1977 and is one of nearly 300 congregations around the world that are part of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. Mainline in their Christian theology, Metropolitan Community Churches affirm the inherent worth and purpose of all people, with a special mission to bringing a liberating message to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. Holy Cross MCC first met at the Unitarian Church when it was on Scott Street before purchasing property at 510 Massachusetts. The next property owned was a historic church building at 415 Alcaniz, in downtown Pensacola. That building nurtured the growing church until early 2002, when the congregation voted to seek larger and more accessible space. In early 2004 property was located and the congregation voted to purchase eight acres on Fairfield Drive. The property including a building that, with renovation, would provide a sanctuary double the size of the worship space on Alcaniz. Then, in September of that year, Hurricane Ivan struck Northwest Florida and, particular, Holy Cross MCC’s Alcaniz building. The storm left the building as a total loss. [continued on Main-10]

Parties, Parties & more Parties

his Labor Day weekend promises to be diverse, entertaining and much too busy. For example, I am double booked Friday through Sunday. That doesn’t happen often. The three big parties for me are DecaFest, Mr. Louisiana Leather Contest and Southern Decadence. I was thrilled to be asked to serve as a judge for the Mr. Louisiana Leather Contest. It has been years since I won my titles in the exciting World of Leather. Unfortunately, my days were marred by being accepted only by the men’s community but NOT the women’s community even though no one else at the time was doing Women’s Leather Contests except for a few Transgenders who only wanted a title as a joke. If I sound bitter, I am. I have never found the New Orleans Lesbian Community as warm and welcoming as I have in other places I’ve lived. The thought of pulling out a box of lovingly packed away leather slacks, vest, hat, boots and accessories gives me a feeling of excitement. Will the slacks and vest still fit? I doubt it. The mix of leather, heat and sweat on an August night at the Phoenix is very sexual. Don’t believe me?

Robin Tyler Slated for DecaFest

Try it. The problem is that is the same night DecaFest will be entertained by the fabulous first Lesbian of stand-up comedy. Before Ellen, there was the out and proud Robin Tyler. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Robin live several times and she is

always fresh, fun and controversial. I suggest that you get to the DecaFest web sit now for tickets – www.decafest.com. The evening takes place in the air-conditioned comfort of the CAC on Camp St. Saturday night while I’m judging muscular, sexy Leather Men, Jade Esteban Estrada, the master entertainer, will be thrilling the audience at the CAC. Genre Magazine calls Jade, “the most exciting Latin pop artist ever to emerge onto the music scene.” And that is only one of his talents. And then there is Sunday when nothing is more fun than being on the Ambush balcony or just below it after the Decadence Parade for the Official Southern Decadence Bead Toss. That takes place just after the DecaFest Decadence Costume Contest. We’ll be thankful for Monday off just to rest up from trying to do everything. While the rest of the country is eating bar-b-que, we will be nursing headaches and sore feet. Mr. Louisiana Leather 2008 is presented by The Lords of Leather – www.lordsofleather.com. First there is street wear that represents an individual’s leather life-style. Next comes the jockstrap which does not allow total nudity but minimal coverage is encouraged. the "official" dish ...from Main-6 In the time since Ivan, the Holy Cross congregation met at a total of five temporary locations - including the back lawn at the Fairfield property for a few weeks last fall - while contractors worked to renovate the new building. Despite the adversity, the church has thrived. When Ivan struck, Holy Cross had 245 members. When the new building is dedicated, that number will be 315. With the new building ready for use, the church anticipates even more people coming to the growing congregation. While worship had gone to two services at the Alcaniz building because it was too small, the new facility is more than big enough for everyone to meet together. The new facility will include a food pantry, a garden to grow fresh vegetables, a pet care ministry, a transportation ministry, a one-acre park and memorial garden, a recreation area and a life center. All of the public areas of the new building are wheelchair accessible. Most services offer a Sign Language interpreter, and devices to help those who are hard of hearing are also available.

Third is the 90 second speech which usually gives the goals, ideals and objectives. The fourth and very important is the interview which takes place that morning so as not to drag the contest out too late. The contest should end between 9:30 and 10pm so you can get back out to Bourbon St. for a “good time” before hitting the streets on a hot Sunday afternoon. To say anything about Southern Decadence would be redundant as facts, schedules, history and information can be found throughout this issue and the next. I will just move onto DecaFest. This is the second annual DecaFest event. It is the brainchild of those who used to leave the city every Labor Day. It is designed for the nonheavy-bar-partiers, women who feel left out of Southern Decadence, visitors who want to experience more than just passing out face down on Bourbon St. and everyone who loves great entertainment.

I’ll let you go to the website for the details but for my take of the entertainers, here’s the skinny (do people still say that?). I first saw Robin Tyler live more than ten years ago. She was great and touched feelings of political activism that I had been working on since the mid 1980’s. When I was asked by Silver Threads, a women over fifty group, to help find entertainment for their first conference, I suggested Robin. Born in Winnipeg, Canada, she is the first “out” comedian, producer and activist. Her first comedy album came in 1978. She was the first openly gay entertainer to perform in Russia, 1991, South Africa, 1995, and Mexico, 1996. As a political activist, Robin was the stage producer for the first three gay Marches on Washington. As national protest coordinator she “Stop(ped) Dr. Laura” and leads the fight that would ban samesex marriages. In 2004, she and partner, Diane Olson, filed the first equal marriage rights lawsuit in California. Their attorney, Gloria Alfred,

also filed on behalf of Rev. Troy Perry of MCC fame to recognize his Canadian marriage. Robin fights for the rights of abused children and serves on the National Advisory Board of Protect. She also is the coexecutive Producer for a documentary on the harm of Crystal Meth to the gay community called “Tweakers.” And she was a producer of the Stroll-A-Thon – caring for babies with AIDS. In addition to the thirty years of activism to protect the gay community, Robin created in 1990 the Robin Tyler Tours. She has a 98% repeat rate of business for women’s tours which serves an average of 30 to 50 clients per tour. Robin accompanies every tour. These small tours are personal, luxury tours and cruises. There are an abundance of events scheduled for Decadence weekend. Now all you have to do is get your calendars out

and start planning. The New Orleans Bear and Bear Trapper Social Club will kick off Bear Decadence Thursday, August 30th with “Buds and Suds” Beer Bust at Rawhide from 4pm till 10pm. On Friday, August 31, the Bears continue with their Sire Ursus 2007 Contest at New Orleans Leather Co., 2230 St. Claude Ave. from 7pm till 10pm. Bear President Steven tells me they have several contestants but still have room for a few more. Tickets to this dinner and contest night are almost sold out so get them quick! Come out to the Marigny for a great night and lots of eye candy as well. After the Bear contest you will be right around the corner from Leather Decadence Block Party hosted by the Lords of Leather and sponsored by The Phoenix bar. Yes, the 2200 Block of N. Rampart Street will be filled with Leather Men and Women from around the country. This is the largest Leather Block Party in the South. Starting at 9pm and continuing till….. The Lords of Leather will be holding their $5 Beer Bust with other clubs setting up as well. The Cavaliers Motorcycle Club will be selling Bud Light and bottled water and The Bears will be selling Miller and Miller Light. I also hear that there will be vendors set up selling various wares. Aunt Tillie Goes To Town

ctors Cooperative Theatre has not disappointed with its mounting of what is announced unashamedly as a simple silly summer entertainment. Mr. Caire directed the show with a sense of great fun and vitality. The show was well paced and the actors bring sparkle and skill and a crisp and comic interpretation of their characters to the stage. ACT did a fine job bringing to life a charming and funny farce which was a lovely diversion for a change from our town’s awful and tragic daily events of late. As “Butch” Caire told me, “This play opened in about 1935 and flopped, but we thought it might be a lot of fun to do.” The actors did seem to be having fun on stage; and it certainly was not a flop the night I attended. Oddly the play was not that dated, although a bit politically incorrect but I think PC is a lot of phoney nonsense anyway. My God, it’s a farce; lighten up. So what if it stereotyped the entire nation of China in one character, played with his usual flair for wonderfully insane character parts by our town’s beloved “Uncle” Wayne Daigrepont (a.k.a. One-Foo-Old) who does the role of the Chinese Cook, Charlie One Lung. He filled the house with laughter in each of his manic scenes. Be that as it may, who really cares about the plot of a farce. Just so it’s funny. And it was watching as the repressed/ oppressive Aunt Tille goes to town leaving her home open to all kinds of absurd situations. It was a happy time watching some of our best local actors prance and prattle around Aunt Tillie’s lovely sunny bright yellow living room set, a well done and solid piece of work designed with skill by “Butch” Caire with touches of Orientalia. It even had the requisite three paneled dressing room screen prominently placed stage left for those necessary moments when one of the characters must hide quickly and/or change into a hilarious costume, such as from a barrel to a ladies dress or man’s suit. (Is there anything funnier than a man in a woman’s dress who looks like either an ugly woman or a hairy man in a woman’s dress?) It worked for Milton Berle and Flip Wilson to mention two of many who used the ruse of drag for laughs. And we get lots of that plus “mistaken identities” as unexpected visitors drop in while Aunt Tillie has left her home for the city for one day because a deceased relative has left her something the Maguffin of the plot. The bedizened housemaid, Lucinda, played with maniacal man-crazy madcap nuttiness by Taryn Vinet, set the tone for the farce as she makes the first entrance. Aunt Tillie tells her to keep the house in order; not to let any men inside; and to take care of her niece and new husband who are expected to arrive that day. Both predictable and perhaps unpredictable confusion ensues as the plot unfolds from one farcical scene to another. Aunt Tillie Task was played with elegance and grace as a no-nonsense but

charming lady by Linda Hubchen who ends up winning the heart of our town’s legendary Stocker Fontelieu, who played Luther Lorrimer. Fontelieu lit up the stage with his suave presence and his familiar mellifluous voice. Eye candy even in h is eighties, he was a handsome suitor. Hubchen and Fontelieu had a bright and swinging stage presence; a crisp professionalism in their scenes together. Abby Lake trod the boards with finesse playing the role of Mrs. Tillie Tucker - who had one of the best groaner exit lines. Jeff Ramirez played Mervin Tucker with style as did Jonathan Mares who played Roland Howland. Both handsome men played each vigorous characters with a good sense of comedic timing. Even Jimmy deMontluzin had me fooled when he stormed on stage as Dr. Hattie Bing, in a drag ensemble that had me wondering who she/he was. And what a drag debut! He ranks among those mentioned masters, Flip Wilson and Milton Berle. Mr. deMontluzin has such a joie de vivre both off and on the boards, he always illuminates the stage with fluorescent energy. His scene was like a miniskit (and though he was in a long skirt, I bet he is impressive in a mini-skirt) from a good Saturday Night Live presentation. Joy Chun was funny and effective as Lizzie Parsons, and as stylish on stage as Pauline Boudreaux who played biz-lady, Ellen Neeland. Miss Boudreaux was the soigne fashion model of the play as she entered wearing a very chic and glamourous outfit. She was quite convincing in her role as a worldly attractive business lady who of course gets a handsome husband as the final curtain falls and the farce ends on a high note. Excellent Light and Sound Design was done by Gerald Lester with Costumes by Gwen and Alex Caire, all of which added to the wit and charm of this smart production.

work for me. Many people left after the first act, and more than usual number were seen sleeping in their seats. It was like watching a bird attempt to sore with one misshapen or broken wing. There were a few moments of actual flight but not enough to say the show was any where near a soaring success. With so much excellent talent on the stage we were happy to witness a few high flown moments among the crashes: Katie Howe in the role of Tracy Lord looked lovely, sang beautifully and acted with a certain charm. She was sweetly effective in her duet True Love with handsome Christopher E. Carey playing the role as her first husband C. Dexter Haven. Mr. Carey did his role with a suave naturalness, and a beautiful strong singing voice. C. Leonard Raybon as Mike Connor, the reporter, was very sexy lying around on stage wearing his 1950s bathing suit in some scenes; and later singing especially well the song You’re Sensational which he does both seated, on his knees, and lying in Ms. Howe’s lap. Dan Garvey was another performer who rather then appear dull as the script dictated in the role of George Kittredge was a sexy hunk on stage with a beautiful baritone singing voice. In the smart role as the one who loves him unnoticed, Jessica Gordon played Liz Imbrie with insight and edgy charm. Louis Q. Barroso did a splendid job playing the role of Uncle Willie with a scene stealing technique which made his character lovable and convincing. In a minor role as the kid sister Dinah Lord, Catherine M. Rodriguez was absolutely amazing. This young lady shows great promise. She was one of the most illuminating and convincing characters on the stage. Susan Barrett Smith was very good in the role of Margaret Lord. Reggie Hendry did a good job in the role of her philandering butt-pinching hubby Seth Lord. The 20 members of the ensemble did their best to make the Edmond Kresley’s clunkey choreographed tap dancing work; but it mostly looked like stampeding herds of buffalo en mass similar, without the tapping, to the even greater dancing hoards in the film Hello, Dolly!. The choral singing did soar beautifully. Kenneth L. Leach conducted the or-

somewhat off key this time. Considering that Mr. Howard pulled this show together in only two weeks perhaps such a recycled-song show resists even his talents. One must marvel at the many other shows that were resplendent and soared with beauty above the wide stage of Dixon Hall. Something went wrong this time. That bright bird of musical theater had a bumpy flight. This vehicle just does not give all these wonderful talents a lot of flying space. With nowhere to go they were destined to bump into each other in their lovely attempts not to.

Cobalt Blue, Disaster Number 1604, Parts 1 & 2

he Marigny Theatre and Gods and Gators Theatre Company has an excellent production on stage with its world premiere of Playwright/Director Louie Crowder’s two related, post hurricane Katrina themed, one acts under the title of Cobalt Blue, Disaster Number 1604, Parts 1 & 2. Handsome, young, and well educated Playwright and Director Louie Crowder has an interest in and knowledge of esoterica, the occult, voodoo, myths, magic and religious sects. He puts this interest to work in his well written dramas without excess. Just enough to make his audience wonder; just enough to keep them on track with the elements of mystery. In the first of the evenings plays, When There Came A Knock At The Door. Mr. Crowder presents us with a post Katrina drama that manages to catch the terror and tragedy of this on going horrifying event in a net that lets some of the inexplicable slip through making for a tight well conceived script that doesn’t overwhelm; that leads us to ponder and think. A couple of memorable lines come to mind: “45s kill killers; it’s the gun of choice for the side of good....” and ...”love has to be saluted...” In this play two young gay men living near Frenchmen Street get caught up in a street riot where guns are fired, bullets fly everywhere and looting may be taking place during the Hurricane Katrina hell. Who was shot? Who is the man who knocks on their apartment door to discuss love and chaos with them (played with a delicate energy and convincing presence by Glenn Meche as Victor). And does the name

High Society

igh Society the recent production done by Tulane Summer Lyric is one of the weakest vehicles ever put together patchwork style with songs by Cole Porter based on The Philadelphia Story by Philip Barry about a rich family’s silly attempts to grow up among the trappings of gold. The musical is also based on the film of the same name. Trying to wrap a dull plot around 18 songs that simply don’t fit in just did not

Sweets for my Sweets

t has been quite awhile since I have done a total column on sweets. Being Diabetic, I’m sure you can understand why, but like all of us sometimes I just got to have it. Dessert that is. Many times when I make my own at home I substitute Splenda for the sugar. Like the first recipe which is for an unforgettable Lemon Cheesecake. Try it either way and I’m sure that you’ll agree.

LEMON CHEESECAKE Crust: 1 ½ graham cracked crumbs (I use regular) ½ cup (½ stick) butter melted (I use Promise) ¼ cup sugar (I use Splenda) Filling: 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened (I use fat-free) 1 cup sugar (Splenda) 4 eggs ½ cup sour cream (I use fat free) 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons lemon zest, minced fine Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray bottom of spring form pan with vegetable spray. In a small bowl stir together graham cracker crumbs, butter and sugar. Press

mixture into bottom and up sides of spring form pan. Bake eight to ten minutes, just until light golden brown. Remove from oven and cool completely. Reduce heat to 250 degrees. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar; mix well. Add eggs, sour cream, lemon juice and lemon zest; mix well. Pour into prepared crust. Place shallow pan of water on bottom rack of oven. Place spring form pan on baking sheet, bake for one hour and fifteen minutes. Turn off oven, leave cake in oven with the door closed for one hour. Remove from oven and allow to cool. Refrigerate at least four hours. If desired, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a lemon slice. Yield 12 servings.

PEANUT BUTTER - BANANA PIE 40 vanilla wafers 1/3 cup honey roasted peanuts ½ cup butter, melted 1 1/3 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar, divided 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened ¾ cup creamy peanut butter 1 cup whipping cream, divided 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 bananas

Process first three ingredients and 1/ 3 brown sugar until crumbly. Press mixture into bottom and up sides of a 10” deep dish pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool. Beat remaining cup of brown sugar, cream cheese and 1 tablespoon whipping cream at medium speed with electric mixer until light and fluffy, set aside. Beat remaining whipping cream and vanilla until stiff peaks are formed. Fold 1/3 whipped cream mixture into peanut butter mixture, fold third peanut butter mixture back into remaining whipped cream. Slice bananas into the bottom of pie crust top with the peanut butter/whipped cream mixture. If desired top with some more chopped honey roasted peanuts. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Yields; eight servings

1 ¾ cups sugar divided or (Splenda) 1 pound butter, softened ¼ cup lemon juice 1 large egg 6 cups all-purpose flour Process basil and ¼ cup sugar (Splenda) until well blended. Beat butter with electric mixer at medium until creamy; gradually add remaining 1 ½ cups sugar (Splenda) beating well. Add lemon juice and egg blend well. Gradually add basil mixture and flour, beating until blended. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place two inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a glass dipped in sugar (Splenda). Bake at 350 degrees for eight to ten minutes or until lightly browned. Cool cookies on wire racks. Yield; 61/2 dozen cookies.

trodding the boards ...from Main-20 acting. Shannon O. Williams plays Derrick Beach, his white lover, with a bombastic style and a powerful voice. This attractive man must learn how to tone the volume down, however, he does a moving job with his role. Both of these actors were very believable and they perform their roles with sensitivity and depth. In the second play, Cobalt Blue, these two actors play the roles of older lovers (who knew the couple in Act I) with the mystery of parting ways hanging in the air. Each understands that they have shared something wonderful and mysterious in their time together, but why does William (Shannon O. Williams) have to accept the departure of his lover Tyler (Devin Michael) who wants to move on and live in his own place? William has a mysterious connection to the sea and the goddesses who inhabit its mystical cobalt blue depths which he discovers when a spirit in the form of a beautiful young woman named Maya (Lisa Davis, whose role name means illusion in the Buddhist canon) suddenly appears (or reappears as she was present as his birth) in his life. The theme of water bringing both good and evil is suggested as the waters of Hurricane Katrina enveloped the city of New Orleans and brought mostly suffering and evil to the town, with perhaps something hopeful rising from the depths and aftermath. Like the Sea Goddess, Maya, played with her usual firm and convincing high degree of talent by Ms. Davis, a lovely red headed mermaid in deep sea blue, a sea change has come to New Orleans. Simple low budget stage dressings (cardboard boxes, tacky furniture and other detritus) and lighting handled by Steve Patrick and Timm Holt add to the ambiance of the look of hurricane destruction without distracting from the fine script of these plays. Mr. Crowder’s words and unique theatrical meanderings through the world of spiritual mysteries shine brightly in this production. We have a new and original voice among us that may well be classified in the company of R. J. Tsarov, our town’s only other uniquely original, most talented and visionary local playwright.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore

outhern Rep and The NOLA Project has another hit on stage with its production of Martin McDonagh’s bloody black comedy The Lieutenant of Inishmore. This macabre fantasy is about a ruthless and violent Irish National Liberation Army enforcer, Padraic (Peter McElligott), and the only thing in the world he really loves, his little black cat named Wee Thomas (Zoot - Morla Gorronda’s cat in an uncredited docile (to the point of appearing catatonic) stage debut). In my opinion this lead character is also totally insane along with all the other characters in this queasy play which spotlights a lot of uncomfortable hysterical bloody situations and scenes which some will find very funny and over the top and which others will laugh at with nervous giggles. This production does not disappoint. It is a highly polished supremely well acted, and entertaining show in every aspect of theatrical craftsmanship. Director Noel Wilson shows great skill keeping this show from splashing over the top with a tight sense of pacing, and a deep sense of what makes black comedy work so well. And how the actors do shine in this show. They are so up there in excellence that I need only mention them by name and say that they are truly a professional group of performers: George J. Sanchez as Donny, the father of the crazed lead, Padaric and Peter McElligott as that lead, created a thrilling chemistry between themselves and the other fine actors: Andrew Larimer as Davey, James Bartelle as James, Kathlyn Tarwater as Mairead, Dane Rhodes as Christy, A. J. Allegra as Brendan, and Will Connoly as Joey. And we cannot forget Zoot, a living black cat, as Wee Thomas, a part that is essential to the plot and so calmly well done on stage the night I saw the show. However, I wondered if the poor creature was drugged, but I was told he was not. So I must presume he is a special needs cat, meaning he was only deaf or perhaps mentally challenged. Then again as his “mother” is the talented actress Ms. Gorrondona, his talent runs in the family. Whatever the situation, he almost, but not quite, steals the show from the other actors on stage, so bravo to Zoot as Wee Thomas, le chat noir. cookin' w/auntie dee ...from M-24 OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING 1 (16 ounce) day-old French bread, cubed 2 (12 ounce) cans evaporated milk 1 cup water 6 large eggs, slightly beaten 1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained 1 large red delicious apple, grated 1 cup raisins 1 ½ cups sugar (Splenda) 5 tablespoons vanilla extract ¼ cup butter cut up and softened Bourbon Sauce Combine the fist three ingredients; stir in eggs, blending well. Stir in pineapple and the next four ingredients. Stir in butter. Pour mixture into a greased 13x9” baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for thirty-five to forty-five minutes until set. Serve with Bourbon sauce. Yield eight servings.

BOURBON SAUCE 3 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour ½ cup sugar (Splenda) 1 cup whipping cream 2 tablespoons Bourbon 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg Melt butter in a small saucepan; whisk in flour, and cook five minutes. Stir in sugar (Splenda) and whipping cream; cook three minutes. Stir in rest of ingredients, lower heat and simmer five minutes. Yield 1 ½ cups.

SWEET POTATO PIE 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled, sliced, drained and boiled until tender ½ cup butter 3 large eggs 1 cup sugar (Splenda) ½ cup sweetened condense milk (sugar free) ½ cup evaporated milk 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon lemon extract 2 deep dish pie crusts For garnish; whipped cream, ground nutmeg if desired. Beat cooled sweet potatoes and butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs and next six ingredients, beating well. Pour evenly in the two pie crusts and bake at 350 degrees on lowest rack of oven for fifty minutes or set. Garnish if desired, can be served slightly warm of chilled. Yield; sixteen

servings.

MACADAMIA - FUDGE CAKE ½ cup butter, softened ¾ cup sugar 1 large egg ¾ cup sour cream ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup all-purpose flour 3 tablespoons unsweetened cacao 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules ½ teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon salt Macadamia-Fudge topping Garnish; Macadamia nuts toasted Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add sugar, beating until blended, add egg, sour cream and vanilla; beat well. Combine flour and next 5 ingredients in a bowl, mix well. Gradually add the flour to butter mixture, beating well until blended. Pour batter into a greased, wax paper lined pan. Bake at 350 degrees for twenty-five to thirty minutes or until a tooth pick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool in pan for ten minutes. Remove from pan and cool on rack. Pour, Macadamia-Fudge topping over cake. Chill until ready to serve. Garnish if desired.

MACADAMIA-FUDGE TOPPING 4 (1 ounce) semisweet chocolate squares 1 (7 ounce) jar macadamia nuts, toasted and coarsely chopped 1 cup whipping cream ¾ cup sugar 2 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon corn syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Cook first six ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat of five minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool ten minutes.

To Play Among the Palms: Part Six

y awoke still cradled in Brick’s arms, pressed tightly against him, they had fallen asleep spoon style and he could feel the hardness against him. He knew that he could maneuver his body in such a way as to envelope this God of a man without even waking him up. He thought about this for a split second, but looking at his watch he admitted to himself there wasn’t for another roll in the hay, if he was going to get to the airport on time. So, he eased himself out of his lover’s arms and headed toward the bathroom, Brick sat up and stopped him in his tracks “Is that the way you wake up and get out of bed every morning. I mean nothing before breakfast?” “You know what time it is? I have to be to the airport two hours ahead of my flight and I can’t afford not to get on my plane.” Brick picked Ty’s watch from the table at the bedside, he swung his legs out of bed and stood up. “If nothing else I’m showering with you before we leave.” “As long as it’s just a shower.” But of course it wasn’t and now Ty found himself in the front of Brick’s cab, traveling at breakneck speed towards the airport, praying that they weren’t going to get stopped by the police or worst yet have an accident. But they pulled into the terminal, on time, Brick jumped out of the cab, grabbed Ty’s bags and rushed him into the terminal, getting him in line with almost ten minutes to spare. He leaned into Ty kissed his cheek and gave his buns a squeezed. “Hope you’ll stop over on your way back. He smiled and turned walking away, not looking back, because he didn’t want Ty to see the tears running down his cheeks. Ty stared after Brick, expecting him to turn and at least wave back, but he didn’t, so he raised his arm and waved at Brick’s back as he exited to his cab. As he had feared, he assumed it was just another one night fling for this rather worldly man. He felt tears welling up in his eyes, but he fought them back and just remembered where he was heading, to fulfill his live long dream and play among the palms. Upon boarding the plane he settled into the same seat location he had on his flight into Frisco , but next to him this time was no older handsome man like James, who had taken him into the men’s room to join the mile-high club, sat in the row with him, but it was a mother with a small child. Well it looked like this would be a sleeper

flight, which was just as well because Brick had not let him rest to much last night. He laid back in his seat right after take off and closed his eyes, he thought back to his high school days and Kevin bringing him out. He took the pillow from behind his next and calmly placed it over this crotch, he knew that he had no control over that area when he started dreaming about his coming out and how expertly Kevin led him along the road of discovery about his own sexuality. He wondered lately where Kevin got all his experience, he had always meant to ask him, but never did. It was to late now. He hadn’t heard from him in years. He thought about the first late afternoon after soccer practice, turning around and seeing that guy down on his knees in front of Kevin. Kevin acting like nothing out of the ordinary was going on. And later he remembered taking that other guys place, many times over and thought how Kevin had taught him everything he knew about sex between two men and more. He had enjoyed ever minute of every day he had ever spent with Kevin, and yes of course when it ended he missed it. He would of course have continued on with Kevin if he had returned to do so, but it just wasn’t meant to be. And when Kevin had left him alone that is basically how he had been, alone, until this flight to Frisco and James, then Brick, then the club and Tom, then back to the Inn and Brick again. Brick, he couldn’t stop thinking about him, just one night, that’s all it had been, but for some reason, he could still feel him, he still wanted him. He had no idea why. The child next to him became restless and started bouncing around in her sleep causing him to waken from his dream. It must have been a hot one, because he was glad he had placed the pillow over his lap, he could not have concealed his problem any other way. What in the hell was he dreaming about anyway? Then he remembered, it was the waterfall dream again and the bronzed man waving him up the rocks to join him in the mist. Of climbing up the slippery rocks to reach he stood and of gliding behind the water cascading down the hilltop and finding his Adonis standing there shimmering under the sprays of water, naked awaiting whatever he wanted to do. He embraced this figure of his imagination from behind burying his face in his hair, caressing his pecks with his hands. Slowly running his hands down the smooth skin of chest, downward and downward toward his nirvana resting just below the god’s navel. He could feel the Adonis take his hand in his own and lead him further downward on his journey to his ultimate goal, and finally reaching it he engulfed it’s hardness in his grasp. Reaching his one free hand up to this exquisite creature, he turned his face towards him, and that is right where the dream always came to an end lately, he could never see the other man’s face. There was a time up until probably a month or so ago he could always imagine the others face. At first it was always Kevin, but gradually as his face faded from his consciousness it became some one less

familiar, not necessarily someone he would personally know, but someone he saw on television or perhaps in a movie. The thing was it was always someone exceptionally handsome and more likely than not unattainable. It wasn’t that he considered himself less than a good catch, but rather that this was the purpose of dreams to reach for the unattainable things in life. The pilot’s voice came over the loud speaker, asking them to fasten their seat belts and to prepare for landing, he couldn’t believe it, somehow he had slept all the way, it had only felt like a few minutes, but as they started to descend to knew they were about to land. He straightened up in his seat and before he knew it was departing his plane and headed for his first stop on the island of Oahu and the most famous city of Honolulu where like in Frisco he planned to spend a one night here before flying off to the far out Island of Kauai where he had secured a small room in a gay friendly guest house for a month. He decided a month would be enough time to meet and maybe snag a mahu to stay with on this outer island, at least he had high hopes.. Honolulu was fun, as a tourist and he enjoyed a little of the nightlife, but his experience was no where near the hot time in Frisco, so he retired rather early and was up and out at the airport well before his flight to Kauai. The flight out to Kauai was on a rather small propeller plane, maybe holding all of three dozen people in it’s totality. He was use to flying only on larger planes, but he was assured by a hunky native flight attendant, that this was a perfectly safe mode of transportation between islands. The attendant was definitely of native stock, he could tell by the rich color of his skin, his jet black hair and the slight slant of his eyes. His broad shoulders and thin waist brought out the best of his uniform. Ty was wondering if he lived on Kauai, or one of the other islands, but after their brief exchange on the safety of small planes, he had turned his attention to the other passengers, on one particular young blonde girl, of well Ty thought to himself you can’t win them all. Departing the plane in Kauai, he had no problem getting his bags and finding the awaiting jeep to take him to his lodging. The ride there was very pleasant and the guy who came to pick him up seemed to be English from his accent. He pointed out places of interest in route including a nude gay beach, at which he assured Ty one could always find some satisfying action. Ty paid close attention to the rest of the trip to see just how far away from his lodging this beach was. Luckily he thought it wasn’t to far a distance, a good bike ride perhaps. Checking into his bungalow, he was quite surprised to find the only two other employees also seemed to be British, he had been hoping for a Polynesian run place. Due to the smallness of the place he just assumed it would be. Well none the less the three guys were all overly friendly and they seemed to be a family of sorts. In his imagination, he was already conjuring up several relationships and finally decided they were all in it together and he hit the nail on the head. It took the first three days to learn his way around the island, and finally make it to the gay nude beach, he had passed in on his way in from the airport. It was a Sunday and to say the place was packed

was an understatement. He found himself among more nude men than he had ever seen gathered in one place and any given time in his life and as if in answer to his prayers they were more of native stock than tourists. He found a place in the sand, near a stand of palm trees and lush tropical undergrowth. He spread his beach towel and stripped to the buff, and laid down to soak up some sun. He rubbed sun-block all over his front and turning tried to get his back, which of course proved to be quite a problem. Suddenly there loomed a shadow over him, he looked up, but with the sun behind the voice, he really couldn’t see. “You need some help there.” “I think so.” The guy slid to his knees if front of Ty, displaying an impressive package, and Ty noticed the bronze tone of his skin, he glanced up and there he was at last, the man from his dreams. The guy took the lotion from Ty’s hands, he leaned over him, dangling just in from of his face, Ty thought he had died and gone to heaven. Pouring lotion in his palms, he began massaging it into the whiteness of Ty’s back and slowly he found himself stretching the length of this young body applying the cream. “You want to take a swim, or maybe a walk?” The stranger asked him. “A walk might be nice.” Ty agreed. The guy stooped, taking Ty by the hand and without another world, walked him out into the open and across the street, paying no attention to the car or two that passed him. He led him deep into the lush green growth across from the beach, the further they went down this small path the taller the foliage got. The native was walking so fast that he suddenly disappeared among the tropical greenery which was now beginning to be surrounded by banyan trees and took on the look of a rain forest. He wanted to call out for his guide, but suddenly remembered they had not introduced themselves. He walked a few more yards and called out, but no answer came back to guide him on. He walked maybe another sixty feet or so, and then he heard it, the unmistaken able sound of a waterfall. Following the sound, it wasn’t long before he saw it, and just as if it were the place he had been dreaming about he saw it tumbling down from a small hillside. He could see the man standing on a rock ledge , in all his glory, looking for all the world like he was about to dive in the crystal pool below. He saw the man look toward him and wave him on to join hem. When Ty started to approach the area, the man ducked behind the falls. As in his dream Ty approached the waterfall and began climbing up. He was careful, watching his step, finally reaching his goal. Stepping behind the waterfall, Ty found thee man leaning against the damp wall of the cave, his back towards him. His legs spread eagle, his firm buttocks offer themselves to him. Ty was beside himself with anticipation and stepped up flat against the guy. He kissed the man’s neck and felt him reach back and grab his crotch guiding him toward nirvana. He placed his hands on the guys head and gently turned it to kiss him. His eyes filled with tears. “How in the hell did you find me here” “I went through your papers , I wasn’t about to lose you. I paid the guy at the [continued on Main-29]

ustin is getting rodeo fever. Sunday, August 12th saw the perennial preppy-ness of Oilcan Harry’s transform for one evening into a celebration of that emblem of all things macho – the Cowboy. With an evening themed “Go West,” Oilcan Harry’s threw their support behind the upcoming Capital City Rodeo. The Austin Babtist Women were joined by the staff of Oilcan Harry’s and several friends in a rousing show to entertain the jam packed crowd on hand to say “YeeHaw!” Representatives of the Texas Gay Rodeo Association were there helping to insure everyone had a great time. The big moment of the evening came as The Austin Babtist Women were announced as Grand Marshal’s for the 2007 Capital City Rodeo in recognition for their support of gay rodeo and countless other charitable causes. Oilcan Harry’s continues an entertaining month of August with a special in house performance by none other than that larger than life hairdo herself, Lady Bunny. Hailing from New York City, Lady Bunny is a one woman whirlwind of camp humor and over the top glamour. Billed as Dusty Springfield meets Don Rickles, her unique style of bawdy antics is, according to the Village Voice, “a sick, offensive

appalling evening that one can’t wait to attend again.” The Bunster invades Oilcan Harry’s Saturday, August 25th. Showtime is at 8pm but I would get there early. This show is going to pack the rafters.

hile we are on the subject of twisted humor, mark your calendars now for Sunday, September 9 th as The Austin Babtist Women turn 21. In celebration of finally being of age, those gray haired faux septuagenarians will embark on their annual cavalcade of singers, be-wigged entertainers and enough cheap polyester and even cheaper jokes to make the most discriminating among us stand up and shout “hallelujah.” The show kicks off at 8pm on the large Rainbow Cattle Co. stage. Proceeds benefit Project Transitions. Can I get an Amen?

t isn’t often that I go out to dine and enjoy my choice of food that I come across something as nice as what happened just this week at the Cake Palace. It was breakfast time, and I was ready for a good meal before starting my work of the day. It wasn’t crowded since I had missed the early morning crunch. I just picked up my food tray, chose a table by the window and facing the service county, and started chomping down on the feast before me. Then he walked in. My eyes were glued to this new gorgeous man in tight gray T-shirt stretched by muscles to die for. The beige shorts were stylish and not the long baggy types that so many younger and non-stylish guys wear. He had the body for the clothes, and he was feeling good in the neighborhood. I was in lust. My mouth was open. My eyes were glued to the unfolding scene before me. He ordered and surprisingly chose a table directly in front of me, put his paper on the table, and went to pour himself a cup of coffee. When he came back to the table, he picked the chair that was directly facing me, sat down to begin reading his paper, and waited for his food to be prepared. It was a sight of rare and informa-

tive beauty. He wasn’t aware of anyone else in the room. He was in his own world. I was in mine. Having the frontal view was absolutely amazing, and I would have been extremely unhappy if there had been anything or anyone between the two of us. As he unfolded the newspaper and pulled out the sports section, I was sipping coffee and trying to be discreet and not stare at this beautiful piece of humanity. I’m afraid it was a losing battle of the mind over matter, or something like that. I absolutely adore a man who freeballs. I do that myself, and it is far more comfortable than having the family jewels crowded into a tiny ball of material that just can’t be a good feeling for the wearer. This man in front of me had his feet firmly on the floor, legs spread naturally, and the view up the legs of those shorts was begging me to keep watching and waiting. Then it happened. His food was ready, and he got up to get the tray. That is when the separation of material and flesh happened, and the crown jewel of manhood came into view. It was ever so quickly but left me speechless in my own mind. Holy night at the baths! I almost dropped my coffee cup. He was unaware of the instant thrill and gratification he just

released within me. He got his tray of food, came back to the table, and sat down to eat. The positioning of the body facing me was just too much. With a view here, a view there, ever so wonderfully positioned, he began eating, never realizing what he was doing to my ever-sensitive bodily reactions. What was so beautiful about this was the fact that he was unaware of anyone else in the room. He was going about his daily routine in a way that was natural to him, and he was very comfortable in his own skin. That is the wonder of this encounter. He was being himself. He wasn’t being obvious. His every action was professional, not staged, just being a normal guy. I like that in a man - especially if he is about 28 to 30, has dark black hair, deep

blue eyes, slight growth that shows he didn’t shave before leaving home, rests his sunglasses on his head, has no wedding band on the left hand, shows dignity through masculinity, reads while he eats, gets up three times to refill his coffee cup, and shares his body in an uninhibited fashion but with no knowledge of what he has done. My goodness! I could tell his religion, and it was a revelation I will cherish forever. I need to hurry up and finish this column. My breakfast at 9am is calling.

The damage wasn’t that great, but it eventually led to a complete reroofing job. Maybe it was a way of saying that it was time for the update. The tree across from Debbie and Claudette’s house was finally trimmed. It was an accident just waiting to happen, but thank goodness the city elders saw the need for the trim job, and things got changed in a hurry. Now if someone could convince that property owner on Spanish Town Road to trim that giant pecan tree behind his house. hug central right there on the sidewalk. I usually see him at Christina’s Restaurant, but we apparently changed our schedules so the meetings stopped. I guess that is another sign of retirement doing things when you feel like doing them and not worrying about a schedule. Richard has been a part of the community here in Red Stick for as long as I can recall. I think I first remember meeting him at the old Traditions, now Splash, or it could have been at his printing shop where I have often purchased excellent results of his labors. He worked the door at Traditions, and it was here that I began to be amazed at his insights into the youth of today. Richard is definitely a connoisseur of good taste when it comes to the beauties of youth. Those many times I saw him when going to Traditions brings back so many memories, so many people who have moved on or are no longer with us. There are some relationships in life that seem to stick while others are brief and unimportant. I think Richard could definitely be described as a permanent resident in one’s life, and that is good. He is one of those guys who you know will be the same tomorrow as he was yesterday and in the days to come. When he left Traditions to more or less retire to the good life of being a print shop owner and overseer of several rental properties, our visits and meetings started to decline. I even delivered Ambush to his home for a while so he could keep up with community happenings. He is not one to frequent that many bars so these delivery days became important in continuing our friendship. This all ended abruptly too. I built a fence around my garden for privacy. Richard built a fence for the same reason, but it was different. His fence was in the front of his house, not a tall one like mine, but one that had a gate that was always locked. Needless to say, there was this added problem making delivery of Ambush difficult, and that first time I discovered the fence, I just circled the block and headed home. I did drop a paper off at the print shop a few times, but the visits just weren’t the same. However, I’ll probably drop this issue off just to let him know he is remembered and appreciated. Aren’t friendships wonderful?

he Fall Semester begins in just under a week, but the weather outside feels like anything but fall. It is sweltering hot, and it seems to be getting worse every day. I guess we can at least be thankful we haven’t had any hurricanes. But with the temperatures soaring, it seems only reasonable to cool off with a refreshing beverage after nightfall. And there’s no better place to have one than at Sound Factory or its Back Side. Besides having some of the strongest, most reasonably priced drinks in town, the Sound Factory and Back Side provide entertainment like no other place in town.

It just seems that there is always something to take your money, like the repairs on that Spanish Town road twostory home. However, the good thing about this one was the excellence in selecting the fixer-uppers. I speak of none other that one of the two brothers who is just the top notch beauty to set foot in Spanish Town in many a moon. His enthusiasm to spread his business is commendable. I cherish that business card he gave me. It was so sweet of him to share his goodness with me and others in the neighborhood. He was truly well blessed within those tight work pants, another freeballer of exceptional beauty. There is also a move on to improve the historic Spanish Town’s image by planting more trees. I recall when they first planted those that are so nicely draping over the street now. Some property owners cut the ones down on one section of the street, and a blight of openness remains now in this certain portion of the street. Since when does a property owner have the right to tell a city it can’t plant trees along the street? I have things planted in front of my house, but I am aware that they could go at any time if street improvements are needed. I suppose there are some people who like the no-green look. Otherwise, why would you spray not only the street-owned right-of-way but your complete yard with Roundup? Maybe the color brown is more appealing to some, but I do cherish green. It is amazing how some people beau-

I know Spanish Town is the place to be if you like flamingos, but what about someone who has about a thousand of these idiotic representatives all over the yard and house. That isn’t beauty. That’s trash. Thank goodness I only see this when my dog is out walking me around the neighborhood. Thanks should be extended to whoever is restoring the two-story complex facing the block that used to house the insurance building. I don’t know what happened to the previous owner, but hopefully some kind of fence will be installed for privacy. After all, it isn’t nice when your neighbors can look down into your bedroom window and see you playing with yourself. That is true too for those who can look across the street and see you prancing around nude. What is this world coming to when you can’t find a safe place to be yourself? It’s just a shame, and the word gets around quickly about these things. And while I’m on the subject of great looking properties, try to envision a twostory on Seventh Street and a cottage on Bungalow that keep deteriorating at a quick pace. I know things don’t last forever, but help is out there. Maybe living in filth and ugly surroundings is appealing, but I find that a little hard to understand. As Scarlett would say, tomorrow is another day. Maybe changes will occur before they fall down completely. I certainly hope so.

he local bar scene is moving along with the heat and humidity of the area. You have a beer to get cool and rested, and then you go outside and you are a sweat bomb ready to explode. The solution is to make sure you pee before you go outside, and even that doesn’t always help. The heat always builds up at Splash, especially on their dance floor. The owners have done a lot the past year or two to improve the surrounding here, but this is a positive move especially for those who love the dynamics of body movements. Splash is not the only dance bar in Red Stick, but it is the biggest, the best, and the most likely to succeed. I’m not much of a dancer myself, but it is great to stand on the balcony and watch the scene unfolding below. I rather enjoy this while I’m sipping a drink. If I want relative peace and quit of another kind, I just stay in the upstairs bar area. Whatever your choice, Splash has it all. It’s just a great club to visit. If your are after karaoke, boys on the bar, bear activities, or the latest in diva extravaganzas, you only have to turn to George’s. This place with the personal touch is always a cool retreat. The only thing missing is a bathroom with a trough, wall mirror, and blue lights to accentuate the positive. Oh, how I long for the days of the old Ramrod in Dallas, where the bathroom was the ideal place to pay your respects for drinking too much beer to the bartending section with the blue lights and the bartenders with freeballing white pants. Maybe this wouldn’t be ideal for George’s. However, when you have something good going for you, why bother to

Though lesbians and gay men differ in some ways, they share a common goal and must work together if we, all gay people, are ever to be treated equally as human beings. It is the anti-gay groups that want to separate us into factions. The idea of bars specifically designated for gay women and others for gay men is a thing of the past. We are one gay community, standing together. As members of that community, we need to stand up for establishments that serve to unite rather than divide us. And that is exactly what Sound Factory and Back Side do. They have two sides that cater to two different personality types, but both are housed in one building, bringing different people together in one festive location. That, my friends, is the purpose of a gay bar, to offer refuge, a place where people can be themselves. If we allow ourselves to be categorized and separated by our own establishments, then we too are complicit in halting the progress of gay equality. Keep this in mind next time you’re planning a night out. You don’t want your money to support dangerous stereotypes. In the end, it is up to us to protect our way of life. And the first thing we need to do is go out of our way to support gay owned and operated establishments. If we can’t even do that, perhaps we don’t deserve to be treated equally. Think about it. He listened, but the end result is a little shy of my personal expectations. However, things seem to be working their way. They have the atmosphere, the ability to tell certain people to hit the door permanently, and by doing so have increased their prestige in this section of Red Stick. There is always a party going on here, and it doesn’t have to be a scheduled event. It can be just a normal night of revelry. Whatever the case might be, Hound Dogs seems to be filling the bill with a new flair of success. It’s been too long coming, and I’m pleased with the end result.

ummer is moving swiftly away. Southern Decadence is upon us again. It is going to be a hot time in the old town when holiday time arrives this year. Things have been slowly improving since Katrina, and with no storms on the horizon, this should be a big event once more. However, things happen quickly, so we just have to hope that the weather helps us out. When it’s hot, the clothes come off. Let’s trust we have a hot and sultry weekend. Get the cameras ready. There will be lots of sightings of beauty and brawn. Lots of reunions will be on tap, and lots of friendships will be rekindled. Let the party begin. I just could not get enough this year, so I had to first go emcee and perform for Baton Rouge Gay Pride, then come home and emcee and perform for New Orleans Gay Pride, not to mention judge Mr. & Miss. Gay Pride New Orleans. Lord that flame is burning bright!!! I believe very strongly in giving back to the community and helping our community to be stronger by teaching them about STD’s and ways to keep from contracting and spreading them (would you like some condoms with that lube)?! That is why a lot of these events that I attend donate a large, if not all proceeds, to different organizations throughout Louisiana!
