Logo also announced the greenlight of Gimme Sugar, which follows five women on the search for love in the L.A. lesbian nightlife and club scene as well as Rockdogs (working title), which chronicles San Francisco’s star gay basketball team as its new generation of players struggles to survive on and off the court. “These shows advance Logo’s con-

tinuing mission to not only explore the diversity of people in our community, but also the diverse lives they lead,” said Brian Graden, President, MTV Networks Music Group Entertainment; and President, Logo. Logo’s new eight episode dating reality series Transamerican Love Story follows Calpernia Addams as she whittles down a group of eight bachelors, living together in a Los Angeles-area home, with the help of her best friend and fellow transgender activist Andrea James. Calpernia is openly transgender to all the show’s suitors from the start of the series. “Calpernia Addams proves that steely optimism and a genuine spirit are the universal keys to finding love,” added Graden. The show is hosted by comedian and actor Alec Mapa (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives) and will also feature online voting at LOGOonline.com, allowing viewers to express who they think Calpernia should eliminate. Live voting results will air during the show, but the selections are Calpernia’s alone. The hour-long show, which will premiere in February 2008, is executive pro-

duced by Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell of World of Wonder Productions (Transgeneration, The Eyes Of Tammy Faye), Joe Del Hierro of Oh Really! Productions (The Big Gay Sketch Show) and co-executive produced by Julio Kollerbohm. In Gimme Sugar’s six half-hour episodes, five hot young friends on the L.A. lesbian club scene bite off more than they can chew when they try to launch and promote their own club night. If they succeed, they’ll be the youngest female promoters in LA. The girls will fight, fall in love, break apart, and come back together as they struggle to make their dream come true. The show, which will premiere in summer 2008, is executive produced by Scott A. Stone of Stone & Company (Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style, The Ride, Curl Girls), Michaline Babich (Million Dollar Listing, Welcome To The Parker) & Michelle Agnew. A star gay basketball team in San Francisco lives together under one roof as they prepare to defend their national title in Rockdogs (working title). During six halfhour episodes, the team will try to bring back the glory of San Francisco’s threegeneration, gold-medal winning legacy of the Rockdogs. While the competition on the court is fierce, the action will be found on the high drama off the court. Executive produced by Eddie October Productions (Bands Reunited, Tommy Lee Goes To College) and William Kendall, the show will premiere in summer 2008.

Twenty-eight New Military Generals and Admirals Call for Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

O

n the 14th anniversary of the signing of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” 28 retired, high-ranking military leaders have signed onto a letter calling for the policy’s repeal. In the years since “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was enacted, over 12,000 men and women have been discharged from the military under the policy. This sign-on letter marks the single largest number of Generals and Admirals from the U.S. Armed Forces to come out against the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy at one time. “We support the recent comments of … former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General John Shalikashvili, who has concluded that repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy would not harm, and would indeed help, our armed forces,” the letter states. played a critical role in shaping the policy on gay service. President Bill Clinton chose not to fully lift the gay ban because key military leaders opposed ending the ban. But now a significant number of General Officers are coming forward to acknowledge their opposition to the ban on open service by gay and lesbian members of the Armed Forces. Some political leaders and academic experts said in 1993 that the military would not be ready to allow openly gay service until society and the military had developed a more tolerant attitude toward homosexuality. The statement of these 28 Generals and Admirals is evidence that these changes are occurring or have occurred already. Additionally, a December 2006 Zogby poll of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan found that 73 percent of soldiers reported being “comfortable … in the presence of gays,” and only 37 percent oppose repealing the policy. the "official" dish ...from Main-4 cans believe that gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military. The letter was read by two of the generals who represented the group of 28 at a joint event sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, Servicemembers United, Log Cabin Republicans, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network and Liberty Education Forum to recognize the 12,000 men and women discharged from the military since the signing of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The groups marked the anniversary of the policy’s signing by unveiling the “12,000 Flags for 12,000 Patriots” display on the National Mall. The tribute ran November 30 through December 2. Below is the full text of the letter: We respectfully urge Congress to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Those of us signing this letter have dedicated our lives to defending the rights of our citizens to believe whatever they wish. As General Colin Powell, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs said when the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy was enacted, it is not the place of the military or those in senior leadership to make moral judgments. Scholarly data show that there are approximately one million gay and lesbian veterans in the United States today, as well as 65,000 gays and lesbians currently serving in our armed forces. They have served our nation honorably. We support the recent comments of another former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General John Shalikashvili, who has concluded that repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy would not harm, and would indeed help, our armed forces. As is the case in Britain, Israel, and other nations which allow gays and lesbians to serve openly, our service members are professionals who are able to work together effectively despite differences in race, gender, religion, and sexuality. Such collaboration reflects the strength and the best traditions of our democracy. Pelosi Statement On World AIDS Day

W

ashington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on World AIDS Day. “World AIDS Day gives us an opportunity each year to assess the progress we have made together in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to consider what more we can do to help alleviate poverty and disease at home and in the developing world. “This year’s World AIDS Day theme is ‘Keep the Promise – Leadership.’ It is a reminder that we all must do more. Across the developing world, HIV/AIDS is devastating productive members of these societies, discouraging economic development and orphaning millions of children. “Last week, UNAIDS and the World Health Organization released more accurate figures that reduce the number of people estimated to be living with HIV and new HIV infections. While the report is welcome news, the numbers are still staggering: 2.5 million new HIV infections each year, and a worldwide total of 33 million people infected with HIV. The need for stronger U.S. leadership and a sustained commitment from the international community is clear. “I am proud that one of the first actions taken by the new Congress was to provide $4.5 billion for global AIDS initiatives, representing a $1.3 billion increase over the previous year. We followed up this year by passing an additional $6 billion commitment for global AIDS – the highest levels of funding ever appropriated by the U.S. to fight infectious diseases worldwide. “We have an opportunity to do even more. Congress will soon consider legislation to reauthorize the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). This is an opportunity to show that America stands with developing nations as they fight this deadly disease. Greater investments in treatment and care can strengthen health systems and give new hope to millions, and a renewed focus on education and the elimination of genderbased violence can make significant strides in preventing a new generation of HIV-infected young people. “Recently reported increases in both

new HIV infections and new AIDS cases in the United States call out for stronger leadership domestically as well. This year, Congress passed the largest increase in seven years for the Ryan White initiative, which provides care and treatment to more than half a million low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. Significant increases are also pending for HIV prevention, the Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS program, and health research at the National Institutes of Health. In addition, the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which I first introduced nearly a decade ago to expand Medicaid coverage to allow people living with HIV to stay healthy and active, was reintroduced earlier this year with strong bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Keeping people healthy saves lives. It is good health policy. We must pass this bill and we will. “On World AIDS Day, let us renew our commitment to stop this deadly disease and to a future where AIDS is no longer a threat.”

Local Charity Calls for Help and Awareness on World AIDS Day

P

roject Lazarus, the oldest and largest residential facility providing assisted living to people with AIDS in the Gulf Coast region, will recognize the 19th anniversary of World AIDS Day by making a plea for help to those in the area. As the AIDS pandemic continues to spread across the globe (4.3 million people were infected in 2006 alone), New Orleans and its surrounding areas are now ranked seventh for the highest incidence of AIDS in the United States. “We cannot do this without support and donations from the community,” says Eric Oleson, Executive Director of Project Lazarus. He continues, “The theme of this year’s World AIDS Day is leadership, and it is said that the best leaders know when they cannot do it alone.” On this World AIDS Day, Project Lazarus is making a plea to locals for support against the virus. To donate, please visit www.projectlazarus.net/donate.html. Research has shown that Lazarus House’s population is reflective of the local population living with AIDS: *The population is generally 70 percent minority and 30 percent Caucasian * Women now comprise 30 percent of residents (which is increasing every year) *The average age is now over 40years-old *All residents fall below 80 percent of federal poverty guidelines As more become infected, Project Lazarus struggles to maintain and update the facility. Increasing accessibility of the buildings to handicapped residents and installation of generators to ensure the care of residents in the event of another storm are two of the projects now costing the organization more than $250,000. “Not only did we receive nearly one million dollars in damage during the storm,” says, Eric Oleson, Executive Director of Project Lazarus, “but as a result of the shift in the New Orleans population we have seen a dramatically reduction in personal and corporate support.” Project Lazarus volunteer pool has

Pathbreaking Survey Finds Clinton as Overwhelming Favorite for 2008 Election

N

ew York, NY-In the first public, political survey ever con ducted by a university-based

team of scholars with a nationally representative sample of lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGBs) Americans, results released today show that Senator Hillary Clinton has the support of 63 percent of LGB likely voters in the Democratic primaries, followed by Senator Barack Obama with 22 percent and John Edwards with 7 percent. The Hunter College Poll also finds that during the process of “coming out,” LGBs become more liberal and more engaged in the political process than the general population. “We found a stunning transformation in political views in the LGB community of a magnitude that is virtually unparalleled among social groupings in the U.S. population,” said political science professor Kenneth Sherrill of Hunter College, one of the study’s investigators. The Hunter College Poll was conducted with 768 respondents by Knowledge Networks, Inc. from November 15th through November 26th, 2007. Other findings include: • Nine in 10 LGB likely voters will vote

in the Democratic primaries and 21 percent say that lesbian and gay rights will be the most important issue influencing their vote in 2008. • 72 percent of LGB likely voters consider Senator Clinton a supporter of gay rights, with Senator Obama at 52 percent and former Senator Edwards at 41 percent. On the Republican side, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was at 37 percent, followed by Senator John McCain at 13 percent. “These findings suggest opportunities. Clinton benefits from a high turnout in this very Democratic bloc; her opponents would benefit from making their stated support for gay rights more visible to LGB voters,” said Murray Edelman, a distinguished scholar at Rutgers University’s Eagleton Institute and one of the study’s investigators. • 33 percent of all respondents say they are “very interested” in politics compared to 22 percent of the Knowledge Networks general population sample. And 36 percent said they became more interested in politics during their “coming out” period. • LGBs were more likely than the general population to have contacted a government official in the past 12 months (23 percent to 16 percent). “These levels of civic engagement indicate that gay people can have a bigger influence on public policy than suggested by their relatively small share of the population,” said Patrick J. Egan, an assistant professor at New York University and another of the study’s investigators. • Asked what gay rights goals are “extremely important,” LGBs chose: goal % saying goal is “extremely important”; enacting employment non-discrimination laws 59%; protections from bias crimes 59%; securing spousal benefits 58%; AIDS funding 53%; legalizing samesex marriage 50%; rights of transgendered people 36%; ending the military’s ban on being openly gay 36% “The top priorities for LGBs bear little resemblance to the debates that have dominated the headlines,” said Egan. • When asked about the proposed federal law making it illegal to discriminate against lesbians, gays, and bisexuals in employment, LGBs (by a margin of 60 to 37 percent) said that those seeking to pass the law were wrong to remove protections for transgendered people in order to get the votes necessary for passage in Congress. The Hunter College Poll was funded by a grant from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Sole control over the design of the study’s questionnaire and analysis of the data were maintained by the study’s investigators. The survey was conducted among those who identified themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual to Knowledge Networks, which recruits its nationally representative sample of respondents by telephone and administers surveys to them via the Internet. The survey has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4 percentage points. The study’s investigators can be reached at the following numbers: Kenneth Sherrill (Hunter College) 212.595.6213; Murray Edelman (Rutgers University) 212.787.5477; and Patrick J. ope you all have your sweaters out with this cold streak that has hit us here in New Orleans. But not to panic, I hear it will warm back up, probably before this issue hits the streets. I tell ya, the clubs in this city have been very hard at work to entertain you these past weeks and they are not stopping yet. he Lords of Leather have not only been working on their Bal Masque XXV but somehow they found time to put on their annual American Bandstand review. This years theme was The Great White Way: Broadway Strikes Back. And believe me, it looked like all the stage hands were on strike too! Lord Gary V., Special Function Coordinator, did a great job of putting this show together. Congratulations also go to all the Lords and performers. Princesse Stephaney graced the stage as well as a special performance by Solitaire. JohnPaul's turned into a great venue for the event. With the upstairs bar opened for a pre-show VIP Party that included complimentary appetizers and champagne as well as a full bar available, the scene was set for the 16 performances. Several members performed solo acts and several joined together for trios and more. The audience was well prepared for the night as emcee Lord Gary V. gave plenty of forewarning that it would be a campy if not down right scary cast. Tips to the performers from the evening were donated to In This Together, Inc. a local charity founded by long time GLBT community activist Michael “Fish” Hickerson. More information on In This Together can be found on their website: www.inthistogetherinc.org. There was also a 50/50 Raffle and an auction of a table at the Lords 25th Anniversary Bal Masque on February 3, 2008. Ball Captain Lord David B. donated the table which went for $1,000. The Lords continue the hard work of preparing for their ball. Captain David tells me they will be incorporating some aspects of past balls and looking to the future with new themes. “It will be absolutely one of the best balls the Lords of Leather have ever presented.” The Lords also will continue their monthly Beer / Soda Busts held the second Friday of every month at the Phoenix bar on the Patio – weather permitting! Future events planned this year include: Ms. Louisiana Leatherette 2008 Contest to be held on Friday, December 14th at 10:30pm at the Phoenix bar. Along with the contest, the Lords will be holding a 50/50 raffle and beer bust. Doors open at 9pm for the Beer Bust. Admission for the night is free. More information on the Lords can be found on their website: www.lordsofleather.com.

T

he LSGRA is also busy. As was announced, the IGRA 2008 Convention will be held in New Orleans next October. LSGRA President Lance says they have a lot of work to do and all are hard preparing to put on the best convention ever. These Cowboys and Cowgirls have been hard at work holding sidewalk sales and an new event, the Whacky Wagon Race. They're also hosting the organization's Royalty Coronation on Saturday, December 8 at Cowpokes beginning at 7pm. Elizabeth

Bouvier is slated to emcee the event which will announce the 2008 Mr. and Ms. LSGRA. The show will also bring to the stage Entertainer of the Year Princesse Stephaney, Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Marcy Marcell, Amon Ra's Tami Tarmac, To Do Productions' Donnie Jay and many more. ow that the weather is sea sonable, it’s time to get out and enjoy the city we all love. When was the last time you took the time to stroll through the Quarter, Garden District, Marigny or any of the great neighborhoods? Play tourists and remember what a great place this is that we call home! Happy Holidays to all!

T

he New Orleans Bears and Bear Trapper Social Club is continuing a busy schedule of hosting two beer busts a month. You can find these hirsute men at the Phoenix bar on the first and third Friday’s of every month. The Bears held a Bake / Sidewalk Sale at Cutter's in the Marigny recently. By all accounts that I have heard, the event was a great success. Check out the fantastic job the Bears have done with their website: www.bearsofneworleans.com. The also have a very large section on upcoming events for many New Orleans area organizations.

T

he Mystic Krewe of Satyricon has their schedule full as well. On Thursday, December 6th, they will be hosting A Music Hall Christmas Carol featuring Varla Jean Merman and Ricky Graham at Le Chat Noir on

Perspectives from a TransWoman, Dec. 1, 2007 I really am trying to let this ENDA thing go, But! Two things happened this week to keep the dropping of gender expression/ gender identity from the ENDA bill passed by the House a issue with me. One was an editorial piece in the Boston Globe on Thanksgiving Day. It gave great praise to Barney Frank and a very brief and uneducated take on the transgender issue. I sent the letter below to the Boston Globe on this issue, and I did not get any response. Below is a letter to the editor; on a personal note I am willing to meet with your editorial staff to educate on transgender issues. On the Boston Globes smokescreen for anti Transgender bias: It was shocking that your editorial of Monday Nov. 26th took the fact that only one anti gay bias lobby organization (the human rights campaign) supported the version of the bill that the House passed, so lightly. I also was in disbelief on how uninformative you are on the issue of Transgender protections. It is not as simplistic as protecting “those that do not identify with their biological sex.” such as Transsexuals and Intersexed people like me. We are a part of a much broader group of transgender identified people. Why the vast majority of anti Gay Bias organizations that have LGBT in there names sighed off the watered down version; was the language “gender expression/gender identity was taken out of the bill at the last moment. The problem with Franks watered down bill is it for the most part just protects gay man that dress and appear as straight males to the public. Butch lesbians, famine men and even many straight people that present them selves outside of perceived gender norms lost there protections. Most violence against us LGBT people, as well as most discrimination in housing and employment, is based on appearances related to gender expression/gender identity. As a transgender person, the T in LGBT, I support any law that protects part of my community. What I do not support is the way a huge part of the LGBT community was pushed a side. Also I feel very strongly that it is; not worth dividing a strong unified LGBT community for a bill that President Bush will never sign, and congress does not have the votes to over turn a veto. If I am

wrong, and Bush does sign a passed ENDA or if a veto is over turned, then I own Mr. Frank a big apology. Should this bill die in the senate or die on Bush’s desk on the other hand I believe Mr. Franks and his gigantic ego owns the “T” population of our community a big I am sorry. The second news is the resignations of Donna Rose and Jamison Green from HRC’s Business Council, and the grooming of Susan Stanton as the “voice of the transgender community” by Barney Frank and the HRC. Donna Rose was the only transgender member of the Board of Directors of HRC and already resigned from the board over HRC’s supporting Barney’s throwing “Tranies off the train.” Donna, and Jamison Green where the only transgender members on HRC’s Business Council, and they resigned from the council. In a joint statement they gave there reasons as HRC’s policy decision to support the non inclusive version of the Employment Non- Discrimination Act. On Nov. 8th they requested a meeting with Joe Solmonese to discuss there concerns over the decision to support the non-inclusive version of ENDA. After three weeks with out hearing from Joe Solmonese; Donna and Jamison got the message and resigned. As they put it; “this lack of response speaks volumes” on how HRC feels about transgender issues. While this was going on Susan Stanton (the former city manager for the city of Largo Florida) has been speaking at HRC sponsored events. Susan who has been out for a short time; has little if any experience on all LGBT issues. Judging from her speeches she is using talking points direct from Barney Frank and HRC. On Remembrance Day she stated that Transgender activist should not be so aggressive and that we should support Congressman Frank’s compromised version of ENDA. She went on to say that the Transgender activist that came to her office when she was the city Manger of Largo was inarticulate, aggressive, and to in your face! I am that Largo transgender activist that she is talking about. I hope to have a sit down with Susan Stanton to discuss why she is going around the country spreading lies about me. So far she is taking Joe Solmonese’s approach and not responding to me. Susan no doubt soon will be the token transgender member of HRC’s Board of Directors. She will try her best to look good as she recites their talking points. --Janice Josephine www.janicejosephine.com

Christmas Gifts

N

othing says loving like something from the oven – sounds like a commercial to me, does it not? Truth is that the old adage is certainly true, I for one am always happy to receive a little tasty treat from someone's kitchen at this time of the year. Now of course I know that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but since I’m sure no one is going to send me any this year, I would not mind settling for second best. Having something home-made is so much more personal to me that I relish the time and thoughtfulness that goes into such a gift. I remember back as a child how excited I was when one or another of the neighbors would drop off some home baked treats for our family to share during the Holidays. It is a custom that I certainly want to keep alive, so I am offering here, a few easy recipes for you to share with your friends, neighbors, tricks or loved ones.

RED VELVET CUPCAKES 1 cup shortening ½ cup butter 3 cups sugar 6 large eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 (1 ounce) bottle red food coloring 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk Chunky Cherry Icing (recipe follows) Beat first three ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating until yellow disappears. Stir in vanilla and food coloring until blended. Combine flour, cocoa, and salt. Add to shortening mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture, beating just until well blended. Spoon batter into muffin pans with lightly greased cupcake liners, filling two-thirds full. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from pans , and cool completely on a wire rack. Spread evenly with Chunky Cherry Icing. Yield 3 ½ dozen.

CHUNKY CHERRY ICING 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened ½ cup butter, softened 6 cups powdered sugar 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut Beat cream cheese and butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Add powdered sugar, beating until blended. Stir in the last three ingredients. Yield; six cups.

CHEWY CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES 1 cup butter 4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet baking chocolate 1 ½ cups chopped pecans 1 ½ cups sugar 1 cup all-purpose flour

4 large eggs, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Chocolate-Marshmallow Frosting (recipe follows) Melt together butter and chocolate in a heavy saucepan over medium heat; stir in pecans. Remove from heat. Combine sugar and the next three ingredients. (Do not beat). Stir in chocolate mixture. Place baking cups in muffin pans; spoon batter into cups, filling three-fourths full. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes. (Do not overbake.) Yield; 16 cupcakes.

CHOCOLATE-MARSHMALLOW FROSTING 3 cups miniature marshmallows ¾ cup butter, cut into pieces ¾ cup evaporated milk 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped 6 cups powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla Melt first four ingredients in a two quart saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring until mixture is smooth. Transfer to a large mixing bowl. Place bowl into a larger bowl filled with ice and water. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating at low speed with an electric mixer. Increase speed to medium high and beat for five minutes or until cool and thick. Stir in the vanilla extract and frost cupcakes. Yield; 4 ½ cups.

CRANBERRY-WALNUT BREAD Here is a great alternative to the usual Banana-nut bread. 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 ¼ cups sugar ( I tested with Splenda in place of sugar and it worked just fine) 4 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons salt 1 ½ cups milk 1 large egg, slightly beaten ½ cup Canola oil 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 ½ cups chopped walnut ¾ cups sweetened dried cranberries Sift first four ingredients together, and stir to combine well. Add milk and the next three ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Stir in nuts and cranberries. Pour into a greased and floured 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about one hour and fifteen minutes. Cool in pan for ten minutes; remove from pan and cool completely on a wire rack. Yield; one loaf.

ALMOND MACAROONS 2 2/3 cups shredded coconut 2/3 cup sugar ¼ cup all-purpose flour ¼ teaspoon salt 4 egg whites 1 teaspoon almond extract 1 cup slivered almonds Combine first four ingredients in a medium bowl; stir well. Add egg whites and almond extract; stir well. Stir in almond. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 325 degrees for 22 minutes or until golden brown. Remove immediately to wire racks

to cool completely. Yield; two dozen.

CRISPY PRALINE COOKIES 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 large egg 1 cup chopped pecans ½ cup butter, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Stir together all ingredients in a large bowl, blending well. Drop cookie dough by

tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool on baking sheets for one minute; remove cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Yield: two dozen. Go ahead now my little sweeties, bake your butts off and spread them around. That is the fruits of your labors, and wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. Turkey, Turkey, Turkey Thanksgiving Day

W

e are proud to say that we made all five destinations on our seven hour turkey run. Usually, we only make the first three, but paced our cocktails this holiday. Every year we’re in town, Thanksgiving for us is kicked off at Le Roundup’s 12noon Thanksgiving Day Buffet where Mark, Candise and gang put out an impressive spread. Mark roasted two turkeys for the occasion while Candise brought in the candied yams, white corn, mashed potatoes with her famous turkey gravy, cornbread dressing, potato salad, cranberry sauce, brown & serve rolls, along with pumpkin and pecan pies, and chocolate cake. Bartender Shane, Candise, Wesley and Tony served up the tasty buffet while Toebe was behind the bar keeping the holiday cocktails flowing. The second stop was Big Daddy’s 2pm Thanksgiving Feast under the direction of Juanita this year, since Miss LaRoux was recovering from surgery (she had the bitter removed). Here many of the patrons bring in their best holiday dishes. There was honey baked ham, roast turkey, Juanita’s mirliton shrimp casserole and oyster dressing, creamed spinach, creamed onions, squash casserole, chicken rumaki, deviled eggs, and an assortment of desserts including a fab cheesecake. We tried a small sampling of everything except dessert since we had three more buffets to go. And as always, it was pleasing to the palate, although we missed Miss LaRoux’s fab gumbo. We had a two hour layover until the next feast, so we headed back to the office to catch up on a little work. At 4pm we headed on over to Good Friends Bar where Joel and Spencer were slingin’ cocktails. Manager Joey, with a great deal of help from Bead Pirate’s Lori and Rick, served up the snappy casual club’s take on Thanksgiving. Here, patrons got a taste of Lori and Rick’s 22 pound roast turkey, spiral sliced ham, homestyle mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, green bean casserole, broccoli casserole, and Skylar’s oyster dressing. It’s hard to believe the culinary talents in our community. The 5pm stop was for Starlight By The Park’s 4th annual Thanksgiving Day Feast with Regina Adams herself behind the bar for the festive occasion. There was so much food here, that the spread took up the entire stage area with three tables in an L shape to accommodate all the good-

ies. Javier used some of the live tropicals off the patio to set the tables in holiday mode, making one think they might be at a feast at the Ritz Carlton. Joy and Sharon of Flava Cafe next door brought in a roast turkey, smoked turkey, cornbread-sausage dressing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and turkey gravy, tossed salad and spice cake. Other offerings included Miss Love’s grilled pork loin, Jack’s fabu potato salad and chicken tetrazzini, along with a grilled spiral sliced ham, and loads of desserts. Here we ran into so many of our friends including Paul, Marcy Marcell, Princesse Stephaney, Sam, Charles Grant, Miss D, the Jezebel boysJack and Glenn, Irish Mike, Estelle, Miss Eloy, and some we can’t recall. Remember, this was running into our sixth hour of our seven hour run, and we were getting somewhat toasty. The finale of this long day was Doc’s annual Thanksgiving Dinner at The Double Play where we found Stephen slingin’ cocktails. Bar baron Chuck was in the house along with Donna, Roger and Glenn, Frank and a host of other locals. Here the choices were some of the crowd favorites Doc whipped up for the occasion including baked ham, roast pork, roast turkey, smothered collard greens, marque choux, tomato squash salad, cucumber onion seafood salad, candied yams, homemade cranberry relish, pumpkin pie, strawberry-rubard pie and fab pineapple upside down cake. It was the perfect end to a lazy day. We’d like to extend a special thanks to all who made it possible for the GLBT community to feast and celebrate Thanksgiving as a family in the Big Easy.

Friday

N

oted for exceptional tailgate, holiday and special buffets, Cutter’s Thankgiving Dinner was know exception, held on Friday at 5pm. The boys-Mac, Dudley and Jimmy supplied their famous roast turkey and ham, while patrons brought in their special culinary dishes. Jim brought in his famous Cajun rice dressing, while Tony served up two platters of the best smothered N’awlins style greens you’ll ever taste, one turnip and one collard. There were many other patrons who brought in corn bread, mashed potatoes and gravy, braised cabbage, four different mirliton casseroles (all delicious), corn casserole, plus holiday cookies, pies and cake.

Quartermaster’s Steve Mettner brought in baked ham and green bean almandine, while Tommy Elias served up his veggie cornbread dressing, Gerald’s melt in your mouth scalloped potatoes, plus some of the patrons joined the buffet with mini cheese stuffed sausages in puff pastry, pasta salad, yams and cookies. event. Just the club’s president Sharon Needles, vice president Baby Bissonet, road captain Muffy Lotta and secretary Sissy Havana set the tone for a hilarious rollercoaster ride. Returning Mr. Ho Stumpy did a crowd pleasing number strippind down to almost nothing. But let’s not forget the hysterical performances of the three Miss Ho contestants Amanda Straddle, Lickety Split (the only Lesbian cowgirl) and Bella DeBall. Then they gave us a look at the Mr. Ho contestants, Jim, David and Josh. We also were treated to the talents of Nashville’s Vienna Seusage, Alexis Daniels and Mr. Ho contestant Josh singin’

live. The contest was judged by audience response with Jim and Amanda Straddle taking home the Mr. and Miss Ho sashes. Stage tips benefited NOAH (New Orleans Animal Helpers) raising $410 for this worthy organization. A brisk walk around the corner landed us a JohnPaul’s, arriving just in time to see a lovely rendition of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” It proved to be another hilarious entertainment venue as the Lords of Leather presented “Broadway’s Revenge, The Great White Way 2,” the annual turnabout put on by the krewe. You won’t ever catch most of these men in a dress, so ya’ll know we were in for a rare treat. Many of the members we did not recognize, but honey... Gary, Mickey, Micheal and David were showstoppers, and not in a glam way, but absolutely hysterical. Great job guys! Performance tips benefited In This Together, a non-profit community based health initiative. It was very reassuring to see such a huge crowd support the Lords who will present their 25th bal masque on Sunday, February 3, 2008, at the Alario Center. It is so important that we support all of our GLBT organizations which maintain the cultural fabric that is Gay New Orleans.

S

unday, the 25th, brought us over to Cowpokes for the premiere opening of the Fleur de Lis Divas Revue led by Brittney O'Bryan and Elizabeth. The new show runs every Sunday from 4-6pm. The crowd here was pretty thick with a passle of the Betties in the house, along with loads of the Amon Ra girls to see special guest’s, Raven Dubay and Opal Masters. Yes, we did say Raven Dubay. Until this day Raven has not had a last name, and so that she will not be confused with that Kennedy Raven, we dubbed her Dubay, after her crazy husband Don Dubay. And speaking of crazy, that’s us in this instance, we have been trying to find a last name for that sheik Elizabeth girl. We thought we’d found it last week when we dubbed her Elizabeth Belle, but the Belle just didn’t seem to fit this gal. After watching her parade across the floor in to-die-for Jackie O fashions, it hit us. Her last name should be Bouvier. Elizabeth Bouvier, now that has a classy ring for a classy broad. Tomatillo’s, The Mexican Joint on Esplanade

I

t’s Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend and what better way to spend a cold day than at “a Mexican joint” and in this case, it was Tomatillo’s, 437 Esplanade Avenue. We arrived before the lunch rush starting with chips and tomato salsa while perusing the extensive menu. Here one can choose Botanas (Appetizers), Sopa o Ensalada (Soup or Salad), Los Especialidades De La Casa (Specialties of the House), Burritos, Create Your Own Dish and Dessert selections. For our Botana, we chose Traditional Nachos with pork (8.49). Tostados are heaped on a bed of frijoles refritos (refried beans) and topped with queso blanco (white cheese), then loaded up with pulled pork (juicy and succulent) and topped off with lettuce, tomatoes and jalapenos. We had ours Traditional Nachos & Guacamole served without the lettuce and tomatoes. To go along with the nachos we ordered a side of Guacamole (3.95), fresh and tasty. The nachos were huge and could easily serve four. We ate some, stopping in order to have room for our main course. At Mexican restaurants we always share our entree selections. One we Beef Taco & Cheese Enchilada chose was Create Your Own Dish including a fat enchilada (2.99) stuffed with cheese (queso blanco) and topped with Salsa Roja (red enchilada salsa or you can choose Salsa de Tomatillo-green tomatillo salsa), and a hard shell taco amply stuffed with ground beef (2.40), topped with lettuce, tomato and queso blanco. The Camarones Grandes other was one of the Los Especialidades De La Casa, Camarones Grandes (16.99), which included six juicy jumbo shrimp stuffed with queso blanco, then wrapped in bacon and served with arroz (Spanish rice) and incredible roasted maiz (corn on the cob). It is fabulous when you’re able to choose exactly what you’d Coffee Flan like, and that’s the key to the success of Tomatillo’s. There was so much food, that we had to take home most of the nachos, the enchilada and the shrimp and rice. After all, we could not come without having our all time favorite desserts, Flan (4.39). Here you have a choice of coffee or vanilla, but we always choose the traditional one, coffee. The custard topped with caramel simply melts in your mouth and is an excellent end to an afternoon of South of the Border delights. And don’t forget Tomatillo’s boasts a selection of over 300 different margaritas. cw6 ...from Main-27 But anyway, let’s get back to the show. The girls did quite a good job of entertaining us with a smogasboard of talent derived from every segment of our community. We especially loved Brittney in that leather getup and her handsome victim she plucked right out of the audience. Then the unforgettable Ms. Dubay in her husbands moomoo almost had us rolling on the floor with laughter. And that Opal Masters, don’t we all hate her when she pops out with one more gargantuen necklace, more glamorous than the previous one, and all those pageant gowns with shoes to match. But Elizabeth Bouvier, yes, we like the ring of that dear, you are the one most of the big girls envy with that teeny, tiny, teeny, tiny physique just perfect for all those designer vintage gowns you sport, snatched right off of St. Charles Avenue. Oh, and our dear sister, Miss Marcy Marcell was in the house, and ya’ll know she just happened to have a CD with her, so she was the “surprise” guest, imagine that! We also celebrated DJ Richie Rich’s birthday as Ray brought a cake laden with candles to the stage. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it was quite an evening of entertainment.

Losing Leonard

W

hen I think of kindness and generosity, I immediately think of Leonard Sonnier. Out of all the friends I have had the pleasure of knowing over the years, it is this man who stands tall among them all. He passed away this week, and I will miss him as will Sam. The three of us were perhaps closer than others because we had more interests in common. Leonard loved everything about Mardi Gras, and his home is a museum of collectibles he has obtained over the years. He was a member of the Krewe of Sparta in New Orleans for 25 years, and he was also a member of the Krewe of Apollo in Baton Rouge and a former member of the Lords of Leather in New Orleans. Not only had he already purchased all his Christmas presents, but he also had completed his table decorations and gifts for next year’s krewe gatherings. He attended the Royal Order of Unicorn Bal Masque with me this year in Lafayette, and he was to be my guest again for the 2008 ball. He had also just returned from three

weeks in Europe and had already paid for another trip, this one to Paris. Even though he had retired from the Military and the State of Louisiana, he kept on working. Many will recall all the times he allowed us to see movies free when he managed local theaters. And on many occasions, I stayed with him on the nights prior to movie openings. We had to watch the movies to make sure the reels had been put together properly and ready for viewing. The one I recall the best was for Evita. It was just the two of us, and there had been an early preview showing that we couldn’t attend because we were working, but Leonard made sure that we sat in there alone to watch this movie. The projectionist stayed over and gave us this private showing.

W

e are right in the middle of finals week, but don’t fret, in just a few more days the semester will be officially over. And then all you college students can take a much needed break. But don’t get too lethargic because the countdown is on to some of the biggest parties of the year. In just over two weeks, on Saturday, December 22, Sound Factory and its Back Side are hosting their annual Christmas Show and Party, a Lafayette tradition that is as much fun as the holiday it celebrates. The fabulous Stephanie Stevens will be performing, as well as other special guests. So if you haven’t already done so, mark your calendars because it’s going to be a night you don’t want to miss. And in the meantime, don’t get too comfortable on your couch. Sound Factory and Back Side’s weekly lineup makes every night a celebration, especially during the semester break. They are open seven days a week and always have something going on. Tuesdays are Karaoke Night at Sound Factory, hosted by the ever popular Chad Evans. Chad has as much personality as he does talent. Has charisma really breathes new life into the karaoke experience. And he doesn’t limit the kinds of music he offers. He has everything from oldies and country to dance and rap. So if you haven’t been out lately on a Tuesday night or you think Karaoke Night is just the same old thing, you definitely need to come by. Whether you enjoy being on

stage or simply watching those that do, you’re sure to have an awesome night; Chad will make sure of that. And the rest of the week at Sound Factory and Back Side is just as entertaining. Between karaoke on Tuesday nights and Show Night on Sundays, they pack each night with everything from kickass contests to drag shows and pool tournaments. And scattered throughout are fabulous drink specials and the unforgettable dance music spun by DJ Huggies. And unlike many other dance clubs, Sound Factory has a quieter more relaxed side, a Back Side, where you can take a break from the loud music and socialize with your friends, or make some new ones. And when the conversations wear thin, all you have to do is walk around the corner to dance the night away. What more could anybody ask for? It’s two bars for the price of one, and it’s right in the heart of downtown Lafayette. It’s no wonder so many people travel from all over to come out in Lafayette. It offers a unique culture and an unbeatable nightlife. So next time you’re trying to figure out something to do, come by Sound Factory and Back Side. You’re sure to have an unforgettable night. And you’ll sleep better at night knowing you’re supporting a gay owned and operated business. With so much stress during this time of year, it’s nice to know that there’s always a place to escape, even if it’s just for a few hours. Until next time, have fun and be safe. I’ll see you around town.

He was a wine collector and could have been a gourmet chef. His wine collection just had some bottles from Europe added to the already outstanding group of wines from all over the world. His flair for fantastic meals and the minute details he gave to each place setting along with the service he provided his guests was just remarkable. When you arrived for the meal, you could relax in his living room, among some of the most unusual of his collection, have a drink, snack on goodies he provided, and just reminisce about what had happened since we had last met. Often, it was just me. Other times, it was several friends coming together for these events. It was an honor to receive an invitation, and friends came to honor his invitations, and it was always the same. He was a showman with a flair for pleasing his guests. I guess the one thing that I did that pleasured him the most was to design and landscape his front yard and contribute plants to his back garden. He claimed his home had been built on part of the old historic prison grounds, which it was, and it was difficult to get anything to grow there. I think this was an excuse of sorts. He just didn’t like yard work, and I did, and he knew I could use my biology and botany background to help him. I did just that, and his plain front lawn became one of beauty for his street. The back garden was often a setting for cookouts, and his cooking wasn’t limited to me or Sam, he literally adopted people in his quest to satisfy his creative efforts in the kitchen. His nextdoor neighbors benefited from this and were constantly treated to unusual food creations. It was this constant caring and giving that I will remember most along with all his other good traits. In fact, this very act of kindness happened on the day I found him. He called me to stop by and pick up some soup he had made. I received the call when Sam and I were on our way back from New Orleans. When we arrived at his home, there was no response from our efforts to get in the house. He didn’t answer the doorbell, the phones, or my efforts at calling out to him. I guess I feared the worst then. In order to get inside his complex, I had to go through the neighbor’s home, through the gate that separated their gardens, and then I found this wonderful friend in an unresponsive state, all of this happening within the period of an hour. He was on life support for two days at the Baton Rouge General on Florida Boulevard, but Sam and I knew at the time that it was over and that we had lost someone who had meant so much to us and to so many others. It’s a hurt that is hard to explain, but it comes from a special knowledge of a friendship that will last in our memories forever. Leonard was our friend and your friend. He was one of the most sincere human beings I have ever met. There will never be another who can match the uniqueness of this special friendship. There was only one Leonard Sonnier, and we have all lost an honorable friend who always thought of others and showed this in his unusual style and with a kind of class that made him stand tall among all who knew him. This was my friend, and I miss him. He will always be with me in some way, through a gift or in nice memories of happy days and good times as only a close friendship can bring. He loved life, and he lived it with pride and dignity and purpose.

Meeting Beaumont

I

don’t get to New Orleans as much as I used to before Katrina, but it isn’t because of the storm. It just seems that I have more to do, and I have more deadlines to meet than I can ever recall in recent years. Maybe it just means that I like to stay busy, but for whatever reason, I can’t seem to ever catch up. Thank goodness I took the time to visit with Rip and Marsha in their Ambush Headquarters on Bourbon Street. I had asked Sam to go with me, and we chatted and caught up on the latest. I picked up some books to review, and after putting them in the car, I got my camera and headed out for dinner and some shopping. We decided a drink (and a pit stop) was in order so we stopped in at Lafitte’s, and I’m so glad we did. It meant that we got to meet a tremendous bartender and definitely an outstanding piece of eye candy. Beaumont has only been in New Orleans a short time and moved to the Crescent City from the far north country – Minnesota. I think he just wanted a change, and he decided that New Orleans would be that change. He is also planning a visit to Baton Rouge, and maybe I can treat him to a wonderful lunch at Tsunami. I certainly hope to be able to show him our city and introduce him to LSU, a school he just might be interested in attending. I also told him that if he wasn’t interested in college here to really consider Tulane, since he lives nearby, or even UNO. Right now, I don’t think school is a priority, but for a newcomer, he definitely seems to have his feet on the ground and his interests in the right direction. Beaumont has a gorgeous smile, and to tell you the truth, he is just damned handsome. His trim build shows a body that knows what an exercise regimen is all about, and his personality just absolutely held my interest from the moment I walked in. He showed a sincerity that you don’t find in many his age. He has that boyish charm that just spilled over in the way he talked and the way he moved. I wish him the very best in making the most of his new home and surroundings. The next time you are down New Orleans way, pay Beaumont a visit and tell him I recommended the encounter. I know Lafitte’s is on my agenda for another visit.

Enjoying Companionships

E

ven though I got a traffic ticket while passing through that dastardly little town of LaPlace, I had a great time in New Orleans last week. I wanted to shop for some things at Rab Dab, check on two Marks to see what they were up to, and I love to dine at Café Amelie, a quaint little restaurant on Royal Street, right across from the historic cornstalk fence. I love to sit in their patio and enjoy the surroundings. It was rather cool for our dinner, but Sam and I both enjoyed our latest visit there. We stopped off first at Rab Dab, my favorite gift shop in the French Quarter, and it’s well worth a visit if you seek unusual gift items or want to indulge in buying the latest styles in underwear and shirts. I’m sorry I missed Dave, but Lee was quite nice, and he is definitely an asset to this fine business. He sold me quite a lot of merchandise, and Sam bought some decorative male mermaids. hot tails of red stick ...from EX-4 I guess you would call them mermen. At any rate, they will bring a different charm to his Christmas tree this year. Next, we headed a few doors down to see what Mark Babin had on exhibit, and I liked everything he had. Of course, Mark is so sexy, I could just look at him and forget the art, but I digress. This talented stud and former Baton Rougean seems to be doing quite well, and if you want art to decorate your home, I would suggest trying him out. I’d certainly like to – try out his art, that is. Goodness! My tongue gets hard just thinking about him. Good luck with your creative works, my friend. You deserve the success. My tongue worked overtime on this trip. I couldn’t be in New Orleans without checking out the fantastic and beautiful Mark Colley and his equally distinctive stud partner John who live in the Bywater. It was a brief visit, but even a short one is okay if you can be in the presence of these guys. They just don’t come any better. With this part of our journey completed, it was time to go to the Aquatic Gardens on Elysian Fields, not too far from the historic old French Quarter. It is a highlight of any trip through the Marigny. I can’t go there without buying something, and the hanging basket of dark burgundy/purple verbena just had to be added to my collection. Then, it was back to Baton Rouge.

Looking Forward

W

ith Christmas just ahead, I trust you have completed your shopping. I usually have mine done by now, but so far I have

only bought one gift, a gift I will now keep. It’s so strange. I bought some fleur de lis candle holders for Leonard. He collected things like this, and I knew he would be so happy to have them. I guess I will keep them now. I wouldn’t feel it was right to give them to anyone else. I always look forward to the lighting of North Boulevard here in our capital city. Things have changed so much in the last couple of years. The surroundings are so much better with the new businesses that have come in and all the new buildings that have been erected. It seems as if Baton Rouge has grown from a sleeping little town on the Mississippi to a giant metropolis. I always think of Mark Twain when I pass by the old State Capitol. He referred to it as the monstrosity of the Mississippi. I rather think of it as the jewel of the Mississippi. Whether you are viewing it from street level or from the balcony area outside the Tsunami Restaurant, it is still a magnificent structure. One of the most unusual happenings in my life happened when I did an article on this old building. I had done research and interviewed numerous people on things that had disappeared over the years from this historic structure. My article title was “The Rape of the Old State Capitol.” I finished the article and had to watch my wording carefully. I had received a threatening call from an individual who was involved with one of the restoration efforts, and, for some reason, he was extremely concerned at what I might reveal in this article. It worked out okay, but I have to tell you that things are not always right with restorations. Trust me. I know. Along with the lighting, shopping is

better now that a few shops have come in. However, the restaurants and new bars seem to be the big draws. The downtown YMCA also attracts some nice eye candy, and the Farmers Market each Saturday is perhaps the best thing that has happened to this area of the city. We may even get a theater back into the downtown section. I have to admit that Baton Rouge has made a dramatic recovery from the disaster that was a common occurrence as empty buildings fell into disrepair and became eyesores. I guess tourists thought it must be one of the ugliest places along their journey. Now it’s different. We have a clean and classy city that rivals any that you may visit. It’s a nice place to visit, and it’s a nice place to live. Of course, our gay businesses make Baton Rouge a super-nice place to live.

However, the intrinsic goal is to educate. The Gay/ Lesbian calendar yearly will aid in educating readers, straight or gay, about the impact gay and lesbians have had on this world’s history and sociology throughout the centuries. Continuing with the education aspect of Daily Pride Publications, we will publish literature and poetry to include an annual book of coming out stories. To ensure that there will be a new generation of gay and lesbian authors, Daily Pride Publications will annually award a college scholarship to one gay man and one lesbian woman. The amount of each scholarship is simple math, the more calendars that are sold, the higher the dollar amount of the scholarships. We are also promoting art by using local gay artists and photographers for the monthly artwork presented in the calendar. In future annual calendars we hope to receive artwork and photographs from across the nation from gay and lesbian artists for consideration for that year’s calendar. In this manner Daily Pride Pub-

one last song ...from Expose-5 minds to bother us are any way. We can live our lives just as we damn well please, our love for each other known only to us. It does not matter, nor should it, be that we are of the same sex, what we feel is deep and real. Just as heterosexuals feel, we have those same desires to be with each other and live in a monogamous relationship. The second advantage is just that, there are no others of our kind around us to lead us into temptations of the flesh. He is my first lover and I have no desire to know another. We have been together since high school, almost fifteen years lications will allow exposure for these artists at no expense to the artist. The privilege to use the artwork for the calendar is all the compensation Daily Pride Publications requires. If interest in any piece of art is generated and expressed to Daily Pride Publications, the artist will be supplied the name and contact information of the interested party. Art and literature brought the world out of the Dark Ages when they spawned the Renaissance. By supporting Daily Pride Publications you will be supporting the future gay and lesbian authors, poets, and artists in our communities across the land. now. He stirs slightly now, pulling me closer to him, our bodies are as if one, united. In his sleep he raises his leg and wraps it around my thighs, the heat from his body invades mine and suddenly there is no night chill any longer. I turn over on my stomach and wrap my arm around his waist as I do so. This feels good and in my heart I know that all is right with the world. I snuggle closer to him. I know that if it was humanly possible I would merge my body with his and just become one. I smile silently to myself, it is odd that I am awake at this time in the morning, because usually once we have settled in for the night like this; I sleep soundly till dawn’s early light. As I lie in peace I give thanks for what I have in my life, for the security that I have found with my companion, my friend and yes, my lover. Nothing matters more in my life than to make him happy and to fulfill his every need. There is nothing that I would not do to protect him and keep him safe from all harm, just as I know he would for me. He places his arm over my shoulder laying his head against the back of my neck, I can feel his warm breath on the nape of my neck, his breath comes slowly in and out, and he is at peace with the world. I feel a sudden inner glow within myself. This is indeed perfection. How in the world could anyone ask for anything more than this? Softly his lips brush against the side of my cheek. Was that a kiss or just an involuntary reaction. I silently wonder. We have been together so long that at times we naturally react to each other in [continued on Expose 9]

small ways such as that. But then I feel a stronger kiss on my neck and I realize that he is also awake. There is no need to speak to him, for we react to each other without words. I squeeze his waist just enough to let him know that I know he is awake and am ready and willing for whatever he may need at this moment. He kisses the nape of my neck another time, this time with just a touch more urgency and perhaps a hint of lust. Without removing his leg, gently he turns me to face him, this time placing his kiss on my mouth. I open my lips to receive his probing tongue just as I have done for many years now, and it still excites me. I take a deep breath as if to devour him all at once, which sends sparks of desire through the both of us. The kiss is deep and long, seemingly going on forever, but there is no rush to break free from it, I could dwell like this for eternity, living on his breath alone, needing no other sustenance. The nectar of the Gods that is what he is to me, Ambrosia, there is nothing else I desire. I am facing him now looking deep into his dark blue eyes, his eyes are shining in the dark, and they seem to be illuminated somehow, almost from within.

I am placed under by them, almost like being under the spell of Merlin or another of the Wizards of long ago. From a time when magic ruled the silent nights and the men who knew how to use it ruled the universe. He is my Merlin, he is my god, there is no other in my life, nor will there ever be. He speaks no words even now as he presses his flesh hard against mine, I smile silently up at him, he moves his leg from atop mine and places it squarely between the both of mine and with no effort what so ever, rolls atop me. I can feel the growing hardness against my own stomach and feel the passion flowing downward into my groin. His breathing is coming more rapidly now and mine joins his in a rapturous joy filled silent song. I am one with him and in unison we shift together to attain a more comfortable position to consummate our love. The passion flowing within me makes his entry easy and as natural as anything else in a relationship that has lasted as long as ours has. Slowly, at first and then steadily faster as the minutes pass he thrusts himself within me, I am writhing in ecstasy silently begging for more, praying against all odds that this could go on forever. Lord I wonder to myself, how I can feel such unabashed passion for this man after all these years. From everything I have read and seen, relationships change drastically with the passing of time, but ours has not. I have seen my relatives, aunts and uncles, cousins with their wives, change over the passing years from unabashed love to just being complacent with one and another. Being comfortable, as it were, but where has their public displays of affection vanished to I wonder? I suppose that you could conclude that because we do not, or can not allow ourselves the pleasure of public displays of endearment ours somehow has passed the test of time. But I do not believe that this is the only reason that it has. I like to think, no I do not like to, and I just think it is because we are truly deeply in love. That is not to say that my relatives and such were not or are not deeply in love, but I do think because they can flaunt it all the time, and they do, that it becomes somewhat of a bore. After all there is nothing forbidden about their relationships and so I suppose that the excitement of it all just ebbs somehow. Where as with us it is frowned upon and some what scandalous, it remains exciting to the both of us. It is sort of [continued on Expose-18]

one last song ...from Expose-9 like the forbidden fruit syndrome you might say. That is really funny when you think about it; forbidden fruit, fruit is what we would probably be called if folks knew the depth of our relationship. What do my relatives think about us? I’m not exactly sure of that, but no one points fingers at us, that I know for sure anyway. Although we live a good ways out of town and away from most everyone, I believe they just assume that we are the best of friends, who chose to make our livelihood making handcrafted goods that we sell to the tourist every summer. I don’t think they even realize that we both hold down part time jobs to make ends meet. I love you he whispers almost unheard, and I answer ditto. Satisfied he falls asleep on top of me and I guess I dozed off for that’s all I can remember of last night. Last night was our fifteenth anniversary and I could ask for no greater gift than what he bestowed upon me. His pure and incomparable love for me. November 23rd, 1978, Miami Florida ddie passed this morning and I can not believe that I am left all alone. I thought for sure that I would be the one to go first, but fate can sometimes be a cruel and vicious thing. I was planning a big surprise for our twentyfifth anniversary, but I guess I will just have to put it off until we meet again. No, I have not become overly religious in my older days; never have I believed in all that rigmarole and I don’t think that I ever will. Things have changed a lot in the past twenty years, our love somehow doesn’t seem to be so unspeakable now as it once was, and there is talk of equal rights for everyone. Poppycock is all I say, I’ll

believe it when I see it. Still it has been nice living down here in a big city, where it never seems to get to cold. Eddie is the one who wanted to move south and get off our mountain. Said the cold weather was getting too much for him to handle. I didn’t realize it at the time, because he never complained, but he had a terrible case of arthritis. Well we moved, over my objections I must admit. To tell the truth, I had seen pictures of South Beach and all the beautiful bronzed boys jumping around in their skivvies. I was afraid of losing Eddie to someone else, and I should never have worried about that. As far as I know, he never lusted after anyone else for all these years, he just kept claiming that he had already gotten the best life had to offer, me. Sometimes now I question his sanity, I can never think of myself as the best of anything, but then again one can only be what someone else believes they are. I am not sure how long I can stay here, the memories of my dear loved one are too hard to live with. No matter where I go or what I do, I see him there smiling silently in his way, his eyes telling me just how much I have been loved. How much I am loved. December 1st, 2007, New Orleans he dream was the same last night. I can feel his arms wrapped around me tightly, securely, as if he were protecting me from some unseen harmful entity. I felt secure, warm and safe on this cold December night... That was the last entry. That and nothing more. I think, no I know that as he passed to join his Eddie that he was perhaps the happiest mortal ever. So to him I will sing ONE LAST SONG this Holiday season and wish that all of you can feel the happiness of those who have passed into the great beyond.
