O

n Saturday, June 7, the United States Marine Corps Band and the White House Chief Usher, Rear Admiral Stephen Rochon, will join the Southern Food and Beverage Museum (SoFAB) in welcoming members and friends to celebrate the grand opening of its new home in New Orleans’ Riverwalk Marketplace. Located at Riverwalk’s Julia Street entrance, the new museum will be easily accessible to both locals and tourists. Founded in 2004, SoFAB is the first museum dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and related culture of the South. Since its inception, the museum has contributed to a national culinary scholarship by launching the Menu Project, a collection of menus from throughout the South and menus from restaurants serving southern food throughout the U.S. and the world, and through its exhibits, “Toast of New Orleans,” “Tout de Sweet – All about Sugar,” and “Restaurant/Restorative.” “Riverwalk is thrilled to welcome SoFAB to its new home,” commented Lynn Walters, senior general manager at Riverwalk Marketplace. “Not only is the museum the first of its kind, but it is also a wonderful addition to the shopping and dining experience at Riverwalk Marketplace with its innovative and entertaining exhibits about the rich culture of southern food and beverage.” “Making Riverwalk our home aligns perfectly with the SoFAB mission,” stated museum President, Liz Williams. “At Riverwalk, we will be able to share the fascinating distinctions and

stories about the food of the South with the thousands of tourists, convention delegates and local visitors.” Opening exhibits include: “Laissez Faire- Savoir Fare,” the cuisine of Louisiana and New Orleans; “Eating in the White House – America’s Food,” featuring the food in the White House with an emphasis on the kitchens and chefs; “Wish You Were Here,” a private collection of postcards depicting African-Americans and food which has never before been displayed; and many more exciting displays of southern cuisine. The Southern Food and Beverage Museum was founded in 2004 and is a tax-exempt 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization based in New Orleans and dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink [continued on Main-8]

trodding the boards by Patrick Shannon, III E-mail: nedcat@earthlink.net

By Jeeves

B

y Jeeves, a recently splendid production of the Rivertown Repertory Theatre, directed and performing in a major role with panache and an obviously sharp understanding of English humor by Gary Rucker was a triumph for Mr. Rucker and the entire cast. Sadly, this was Mr. Rucker’s last affiliation as director for RRT and he left on a high level of accomplishment by giving us this very charming, tightly directed show with book and lyrics by Alan Acybourn based on stories by P. G. Woodehouse, with music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber. The plot is a typical “what mischief” can the British aristocracy or well-to-do get into and out of without the help of their ever faithful and very wise servants. They fall in love with the wrong types or they perform many a social faux pas, and they don’t seem to even have the sense to tie their own shoe laces, etc. It’s satire of the British ruling class at its best. Jeeves, as the male lead’s (Gary Rucker) man-servant was played with a sharp clarity and neatly hidden superior wisdom as interpreted by the ever talented Vatican Lokey. With a simple raised eyebrow Lokey can make a comment on the foolish history of his “superiors” that a 500 word commentary would fail to do. Mr. Lokey also did the visually crisp workable set design, and no doubt some of the funnier props such as an auto circa 1920 made out of found “art and kitchen throw-aways.”. Jeeves’ employer is Bertie Wooster, played by Gary Rucker with wide eyed charm and a mastery of character creation. He’s the typical British well meaning goof-off you can’t resist liking and admiring who is totally dependent on his servant Jeeves for just about everything. Keith Claverie did a fine job as Harold “Stinker” Pinker and T. Joe Seibert was good as Gussie Fink-Nottle. Edward R. Cox, returning to the local stage after a Floridian hiatus, was a camp and gave us a well drawn character as Sir Watkin Basset even without any apparent attempt at a British accent. P. J. McKinnie was funny and frolicsome as Bingo Little. Travis Resor, an excellent singer and actor, was perfect as the rich dumb blustery American Cyrus Judge, Jr., III, trying to win the hand of “that purtty lil’ English lady.” And the ladies of the show were veddy veddy British in their characters, all done with stiff upper lips or shocked horsey neigh-like surprised reactions as expected of their class, or sly attempts at being demure. There was

much good choreography by the ever ready and talented Fannie Rosenberg and one particular dance routine remains vivid in my memory. There was a ballet with tutus and tights which the women performed and Leslie Lemberg, playing Honoria Glossop, just stole the spotlight from the others. This actress was so funny in tutu and tights, her physical presence being that of a classic “full blown rose” as Tennessee Williams once wrote. She has the full frontal figure of a Reubenesque and the rear figure of a Botero painting, both of which physical characteristics can be used for many a great moment of laughter and humor on the boards. She also has a lovely singing voice and sang the only memorable song in the show, That Was Nearly Us. She has a clear well centered voice that, as a Big Band singer or Canary (think Mildred Bailey) as they were called, would have broken the hearts of any man fighting WWII. She has a big stage presence which I expect to burst out on the stage in some large leading role any time soon. Playing the role of Stephanie “Stiffy” Bang, Karen Ann Cox was the picture of the British lady with a sly matrimonial agenda of her own and Carrie Black was ideal as Madeline Basest. The music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber was clever and had a certain amount of bounce and flounce but none of it was anything to remember, except the one song so beautifully sung by Leslie Lemberg as Honoria Glossop. All the dance numbers were in sync and the gorgeous costumes of Linda Fried were absolutely high class chic. Karl Harrod did a fine job as Musical Director and Scratch Buckley lit up the stage with a sensitive concept of theatrical lighting.

Someone Bought The House On The Island

I

t is never a good idea for the author of a novel to try to create his novel into a play. Unless they are really gifted. Really gifted. I am told that Ken Anderson wrote the novel Someone Bought The House On The Island and then tried to make it into a play recently staged at the Marigny Theatre. Bad idea. It did not work. The result was a series of too many confusing scenes and an opaque and muddy concept of the plot. What the hell was it all about and who really cares? Vampires perhaps and their sex slaves? The plot to kill Adolph Hitler, or a chance to show a coven of somewhat hysterical blood sucking (among other things) queens prance around on another stage again. Wow, GAY is so in now and

lesbian love stories also as well as naked men with their penises wobbling around the sets of recent “entertainments.” What can we look forward to next? Live pornography I’m told, with specials on house liquor. That being said, I can say that the actors in this somewhat boring and badly directed dramatic collage did their best to understand their roles (anyone’s guess). And all it took was five directors: Timm Holt, Rikki Gee, Donnie Jay, Jeff Mallon and Steve Patrick, all fine artists who have done some real good work. Someone Bought The House On The Island was not one of them. I won’t bore you with the plot because there was none; only a somewhat fractured idea of a plot impossible to describe glued together by the imagination of Mr. Anderson and the Five Directors. How the actors managed to make their talents work can only be attributed to luck and a certain amount or good innate abilities. Steve Kubick, a fine actor, was able to create a charming lovable character as George, the guy who saves the male lead (Trenton Ryan Perez) from certain disaster when they meet and love blooms. Mr. Kubick was wonderful in the recently done Take Me Out in the role of the accountant, Mason Marzac,

Trenton Perez & Steve Kubick in Someone Bought The House On The Island

one of the better shows done at the Marigny Theatre a few months ago. Trenton Ryan Perez, played the lead as Kevin Green, the young and innocent greenhorn who meets up with the head maybe-Vampire (Kevin Ford) and becomes his sex slave or something. Mr. Perez is a handsome youth with that rugged hustler look that’s so popular with gay men. He also acted well in his role as Kevin and was lovely to look at, delightful to know... you know the rest. We all hope to see him on stage again in a role which will give a sharper definition to his acting abilities.

illiam Joseph Embley of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the age of 46. He was born March 11, 1962, in Plainfield, New Jersey. William attended the American School of London, the Singapore American School, and the University of New Orleans. William is survived by his loving parents, Carole and William Leonard Embley; his brother, Scott Embley; and his sisters, Julianne Browning of Katy, Texas and Kathryn Embley of St. Petersburg, Florida. He is also survived by his nephew, Benjamin Browning; and nieces, Jillian Browning and Ainsley Embley. Relatives and friends attended his Memorial Service at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, on Friday, May 23, 2008, with The Rev. Frederick D. Devall officiating. For those so desiring, memorials in honor of William Joseph Embley may be made to Canon Hospice, 1221 South Clearview Parkway. Suite 4, Jefferson, LA 70121 or to the NO/AIDS Task Force, 2601 Tulane Avenue, Suite 500, New Orleans, LA 70119. Kevin Ford, a handsome rugged looking type, played Dieter Kulta, the lead “whatever” (300 year old Vampire, CIA Operative, Deposed Tyrant of N. Korea?) and he managed to pull it all together with apparent ease. He seems to be a natural on stage and let’s hope we see him again. As Hamlet, or as the lead in a real play, like Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard, or Stanley in Streetcar. Warren Usey played Sasha a flippant, high queen nellie stereotype, the kind we all know and love, sometimes. He played the bitch role of the Chief Vampire Dieter very well and certainly convinced me. I hope it wasn’t type casting as I have never met him off stage, but I got the feeling he WAS acting the role. I’m told he is an Architectural Cement Contractor who rode a huge Harley Davidson bike to rehearsals. But you know how Dame Rumor loves to share them. Alan Payne as Sylvia St. Croix in Ruthless! The Musical

Martin Webb as Chris, played their role well and as if they understood who and what they were. I’m still confused, but no matter, they are handsome men who dressed the set well. But I’m really surprised that no one in the cast was ever nude. Not even the glimpse of a box..... Someone Bought The House On The Island by Ken Anderson was the winner in the second Annual Saints & Sinners Playwright Award. By default any of the other entries were probably much better.

who want to be A BROADWAY STAR AT ANY COST (sort of like dizzy-ditzy Beth or rather Meth La Bla Bla Bra, a local spotlight-addicted type we all know and love. Featured on stage at the Westwego Performing Arts Theatre, Ruthless was delightfully directed in a bouncy “here come the clowns” three ring circus style by our town’s Clown Master Uncle Wayne Daigrepont. Daigrepont’s faultless 2 dimensional direction of a stock of stereotyped 2 dimensional cartoon theater characters was a hit, a hoot, and a dippity-do delight. It was also High Camp! Alan Payne, a multi talent playing the role of Sylvia St. Croix, once again proved that he not only knows acting with a grand touch of “over the top” tootle ooos, in drag, but wore those gorgeous gowns and wigs by show costume designer Bryce Turgeon with a fluttering elan and what the late writer Don Lee Keith would have described as “a heavy touch of the nelllie brush.” Meredith Long gifted with those “Joshua blow down the walls of Jericho” vocal chords did a really delicious and entertaining job in the role of the “house wife” who finally returns to Broadway as a star with an ego to big for any mirror. Brian Rosenberg as Eve, a drag role tribute no doubt to Eve Harrington, was a pretty little drag queen on stage and he performed the role well with just enough flouncy mannerisms to keep

the cartoon element intact. The evil daughter, Tina Denmark was done by Sarah Stemble the night I saw the show. She showed an amazing stage presence and style for a kid actor doing her homage to the character from the film The Bad Seed. Riley Reynolds was excellent as the whiney winner of the girl lead in the school play, Louise Lerman who gets “accidently” murdered by Tina Denmark who wants and gets the lead part via a handy hanging rope in the catwalk of the school theater. Clair Conti, a well seasoned local professional, was a triumph as Lita Encore and Lisette Bayle did a splendid job with the roles of Miss Block and Myrna Thorn. These two ladies have an incredible stage presence. This musical played to packed houses because of the excellence of the performers; the wonderful sets by Cameron MacDonell and that dynamic reincarnation of Venus de Milo Lynne Lawrence who did the clever and captivating choreography. Alex Quinby did the fine lighting. And I was surprised to see the truly multi talented Roland Butch Caire conducting the Pit Orchestra which had a wonderful full sound. Is there anything in the theater that Butch Caire CANNOT DO? I don’t’ think so. Unless it’s getting a helicopter on the stage of the RRT? Ruthless was a fine show done with total professionalism. Sort of like a drag show with a plot, but a total audience pleaser!

Out Comes Butch

W

ell patrons if you haven’t seen it do so. Frederick Mead’s one man/woman show Out Comes Butch written by David Schein is a knock out audience winner with an astonishing performance by Frederick Mead in a 50 minute monologue about sexual identity and matrimonial issues of every category.

Mead, playing Butch, enters from the side door of the room banging and shouting and wearing a dirty construction worker costume. He’s furious because his wife left him. All too soon he calms down and begins to think. The macho beer bellied six packer begins to turn into a sensitive guy who then morphs into a drag queen, than after a sex change operation into a man-made woman who find lesbians love, and on and on until it all ends just as it begins. I won’t give it away. Go see it and enjoy. It’s the first theater venture being done in the back room “library” of the old Voodoo Lounge on N. Rampart Street. There were quite a lot of ladies in the full house the night we attended. as well as a scattering of guys and as it says in the Holy Bible, “and they were astonished.” This show is a hit! Directed with a speedy sense of pacing by Michael Martin, this is a show you don’t want to miss. Mr. Martin and his companion Eric have taken over management of this venue and with such an auspicious beginning it could easily become the Voodoo Sardi’s Of the South, a place for shows and hanging out with the theater crowd; reading reviews and girlish gossip among the theatrically anointed.. Jennifer Growden is a part of this venture and also wears the hats of Assistant Director and Stage Manager. One of The Divine Goddesses of local theater, Veronica Russell, did the clever layered costume Mr. Mead wears and zips off for each new morphological self discover. High praise to every one involved especially Frederick Mead who shows it all in an electrifying 50 minute performance of what can and usually does happen to everyone sooner or later. Better check out local drag stores and good trans gender unit hospitals. And keep your roommates old wigs. You know, the one you threw out because he was beginning to wear drag. I don’t know whether to call this a comical camp about human sexuality and self delusion or a serious study of the secrets of a human chrysalis. With a little introspection and a visit to several Macy’s makeup counters you too can find yourself and become a butch butterfly dyke.

Real Church

A

s you may know, I am the pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church (M.C.C.) here in New Orleans, well, on Sunday night in the French Quarter, someone trotted out the old insult - the one that used to be used against my church in the past; “Oh” they said, “that’s not REAL Church”. After telling them what I thought in no uncertain terms, their comment made me very sad indeed. I was sad that even after all these years, there is so much internalized homophobia around that some people think anything founded in our community cannot be ‘real’. We cannot have ‘real families’, ‘real marriages’ and of course, no ‘real church’. Well let me tell you something from my experience. My entrance into the ordained ministry was about as grand as it gets, about as ‘real’ to borrow his phrase.

Many Stories, ONE VOICE

T

he Pro-LGBT Christian Conference scheduled for September now has a solid, strong local host committee. I wrote a little about the conference last issue. I was and still am very excited about this group of 500 to 800 gay and gay friendly Christians coming to New Orleans. The city can use the income from such a large group. Tourism is our bread and butter but to have a large gay gathering is even more than just money in our pockets. It will show the local community at large the strength of the gay community across the country. As previously reported, Darrin Harris of Freedom Fellowship Ministries is the Chair of our local group. I guess I am the Vice-Chair in charge of housing for people who will not be staying at the Marriott. If you are willing to share your home to visitors, please let me know. I am also in charge of local promotion, media and public relations. That job will come with assistance from the National Committee, and luckily for me, Randy Trahan is helping with media news releases through the LPA (Louisiana Press Association). Ray Bates of Church of Christ the Liberator has offered to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator. He needs about 200 people to assist as room monitors,

registration personnel and general gofors. We are hoping to gather volunteers from local churches and organizations. Other personnel on the committee are Fr. Michael Des Jardins of Christ the Liberator, Rev. Clinton Crawshaw of Big Easy MCC, Rev. Keith Mozingo of MCC Baton Rouge, Donald St. Pierre and Robert Turner of MCC, Noel Twilbeck of NO/AIDS Task Force, Raymond Jasper and Vicky Weeks of Belle Reve. We need more members to work on this project so the local host committee is still open to anyone wishing to work on making the conference a success from the local level. Other locals who have been invited to serve are our beloved Pastor Dexter Brecht and the pastor of Unity Church of Metairie. Charles Scroggins has offered his assistance with tours of the French Quarter, Cities of the Dead, the Garden District and a mini-showing of a traditional Mardi Gras Ball. NOCCA has been asked to provide music for the Thursday evening reception and the Friday night Jazz Funeral. The difficulty at present is finding licensed child care workers for the “little” people that will be accompanying their parents to the Conference. Jake at re:Vision is being asked to plan an event for young adults on Saturday evening and to serve on the committee.

Church of England, Mother Church of the Anglican Communion headed by her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II. The Bishop is heir to an unbroken line of bishops going back to Saint Mellitus in 604 A.D. I, and many other M.C.C. clergy left their churches of origin not because they were disgraced, or thrown out, or ‘couldn’t hack it’ (I myself am still in good standing with my old church) but because they made an informed choice of conscience precisely because M.C.C. most resembled ‘Real Church’. The Church of Jesus Christ is defined by it’s purpose, and it’s purpose is to be The Body of Christ on Earth - to reflect the nature of Christ, and this can only be done if Christ’s intention is reflected; that all are redeemed through him, and all are heirs to the Kingdom. A Church is NOT a building, wealth or organization, it is purely and simply a gathering of people who have a purpose, an Ekklesia and that purpose is to reflect Jesus Christ, to worship God, to be Christ on Earth. Let me assure you, The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, with it’s presence in 22 countries, and it’s membership of some 44,000 is REAL Church, not because of The local Lambda group is being asked to provide 12 Step/Recovery meetings. Many Stories, One Voice is designed as a leadership development event. The conference offers rich Bible study; challenging and profound worship and praise; genuine relationship building across and amidst our differences; concrete skills building; reflective and incisive theological analysis and strategic action. Many Stories, One Voice has as its goal the transformation of individual lives, of our proLGBT movement and of our culture. Please join us as we joyfully equip the saints for the Ministry of God’s Extravagant Welcome. Speakers will include: Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre, Bishop Yvette Flunder, Rev. Dr. Horace Griffin, Rev. Dr. Erin Swenson, Rev. Tiffany Steinwert and more. Conference Co-Directors are Rev. Rebecca Voelkel, IWR and Faith Program Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Institute for Welcoming Resources and David Lohman, IWR and Faith Work Coordinator, NGLTF in Minneapolis.

Bon Appetite 2008

I

t is time to plan for the second annual Project Lazarus fundraiser Bon Appetite. Dinners will be held across the area on Saturday, June 14th. Remember how it works? Lazarus supporters host parties for their friends, families and co-workers. Donations are collected from the guests for Project Lazarus. At 9:30pm, everyone meets at the home of Jim Mounger on Nashville Street to enjoy the anticipated

it’s membership or it’s presence, but because it seeks to reflect truth more than almost all the larger and grander churches. It is more concerned with showing love and preaching redemption to the vulnerable and excluded than stuffing its bank accounts with the cash of the ignorant and the bigoted, and adapting its message to the prejudices of its donors. There are in New Orleans and other cities churches where LGBT people (especially the unobtrusive ones) are tolerated or even welcomed, but they almost exclusively belong to organizations that deny the full humanity and human rights of us as LGBT people and our supporters (U.C.C. and Unity Fellowship are notable exceptions). Is it conceivable that African Americans would remain in churches whose central authorities stated that we are less than fully human, or morally deformed, or unable to marry? Why do we continue to give our time, faith and money to churches whose stated position is that we are inferior and unequal and that our families and relationships are invalid and immoral, and that our relationship with God is fatally flawed?? Let us look closely at where we place our trust and our resources. When I was a Church of England priest, I remember someone sneering about M.C.C. and saying it was ‘just a bunch of queens playing church’ – even then I spotted the irony; what was the difference between that and The Church of England or The Roman Catholic Church? - both of which have majority gay clergy in some districts. The difference seemed to be that straight people said that Catholicism and Anglicanism were ‘real’, but M.C.C. wasn’t real because it was founded in our community. My challenge to all is to do what I did, and walk into an M.C.C. church, and feel the presence of God and discover that far from being ‘just a bunch of queens’ we are the only church whose leadership is majority female, and who strive to serve those Christ served, not those with the biggest pocketbooks. Rev. Clinton Crawshaw is the Pastor of the Big Easy Metropolitan Community Church in New Orleans. They meet every Sunday at 5pm at 1333 S. Carrollton Ave. NOLA – ring or e-mail for details. pastor@bigeasymcc.com, 5 0 4 . 2 1 4 . 4 3 4 0 , www.bigeasymcc.com.

s he sat watching television this morning on his thirtysecond birthday, a lot of his past memories were passing through his mind. He was reliving his past, or to state it more clearly his first experiences, those events that leave a permanent place in the development of ones adulthood. The events that lead to how sappho psalm ...from Main-22 space, you know that I love thanking the many people that have been especially

kind to me during my convalescence from back surgery and knee replacement surgery. This issue is no exception. During one of my regular morning phone visits with PFLAG President Julie Thompson, she told me that Joe, her husband, had grown a cauliflower as big as her head. Farmer Joe has also nursed large cabbages and squash as well as tomatoes and other earth fresh goodies. "I want to come to your house," I said. "Good," she said, "because Joe and I want to have you over for a garden fresh vegetable dinner." I jumped at the chance for a home cooked meal. So on a recent Saturday evening Julie came to fetch me and deliver me to her table filled with fantastic veggies. Many thanks Joe and Julie. They sent me home with two large containers of food that Ray and I enjoyed the next day. Ray said Julie’s cabbage was the best he has had in a long time. He is ready for seconds .Other thoughtful cooks are Ade and Amy who prepared my favorite meat loaf – in fact, they cooked two. I just finished the second one. Hint, hint. Ray is still my official driver. I hate that my doctor told me that I can start driving again. I have really gotten used to being spoiled by Ray. Where’s my coffee? Randy Trahan has also being spoiling me again with flowers and fresh peaches. He arranged the fresh flowers himself into the perfect arrangement that brought me great joy. I’m a sucker for flowers. He picked up the peaches on a visit to Mississippi and had so many that he decided to share them with me. WOW! They were delicious. I finally got back to church where I learned that they have been praying for me at Mass and said the Mother’s Day Mass in my mom’s memory, Dorothy Blanchard, thanks to a donation by Marvin Gautreaux. Thanks ya’ll for the calls and emails and cards. Being a part of the New Orleans area gay community is a huge blessing for me and for many.

one becomes what they end up being. His fears, his delights, his distrust, his faith, in short those that things the render one’s physic to govern all things. Examples are many; for instance his loathing and fear of spiders. When he was about eight years of age he was playing with his cousin Marlowe out in back of their grandmother’s house, it what was the tool shed. They were having a grand old time moving things around, and looking for buried treasures that grandfather had left behind. Soda bottles that could be exchanged for the deposit at the grocery on the corner, or loose change he may have dropped from his overall pockets. They had no idea at this time that the treasures where left there on purpose so they may be found by little explorers. Their grandfather was just that kind of man, he thought it was fun to let them explore and keep their reward. It was an extremely hot July afternoon when the incident occurred. They were moving things around like they always did, being careful of course to place them back right where they found them, after all they didn’t want grandfather to know they had been snooping through his things. They had virtually gone over the tops of the work benches, and most of the floor and only had found about a dollar. They were hoping to find two so they could go to the matinee at the local theater, see a film and buy a coke. Their take was very disappointing for the day, that’s when Steve remembered, the rusty can of nails that grandfather kept on the high shelf behind a small piece of cloth. It usually contained a whole dollar bill, and if not the equivalent of change/ He carefully moved the step ladder over by the wall and climbed up on it so he was able to reach the can. He stretched out is arm and very carefully reached behind the cloth to retrieve the magic can of nails. Having grasped he edge of the said can, he slid it forward and that is when it happened. It just felt like a pin prick, but it startled him so he retracted his hand quickly and that’s when he saw them. His hand was covered with tiny crawling spiders; he had disturbed a nest of the things. He yelled as he hurried down off the step ladder and whipping his hands against his pants leg managed to kill most of the crawling things, the rest he brushed on the floor. He stood there shaking, Marlowe just staring at him because he didn’t know what to do. When he calmed down, they made a pact that they wouldn’t say a word to anyone lest they get punished for rooting through the shed. They kept their promise until a

day later when the pin prick started to itch and a swelling in the area began to take place. At first it wasn’t to bad it just itched, but on the second day it began to throb and it frightened him, so he showed his mother. She questioned him intensely, but he never mentioned the incident in the shed. By the third day, it was showing signs the infection was serious, it was swollen and leaking a milky white substance and hurt so back that every time he moved his arm he broke out in tears. His mother wisely took him to the doctor, who in turn sent him to the hospital, which scared the hell out of him. In his young mind they only took people to the hospital that seemed never to come back. It had happened to his great aunt and one of uncles. The sore was determined to be a brown recluse spider bite by the doctor and his mother was horrified. Well he came home from the hospital, he didn’t tie. His mother questioned him about where he may have gotten the bite, but he remained silent about the excursion to the shed. He never did tell his mom, but to this day he hated spiders. Then there was his fear of heights, no big secret about this one. No hunting for treasures or any thing like that, it was a much simpler explanation. He remembered following his cousin climbing up a rather large tree out in back of his house. He had gone up and up, not realizing how far they had gone. They had settled in the nook of a large branch where it had met the trunk of the tree. Here they sat for a good hour or more swapping stories, mostly made up, of their heroic adventures, as young boys are likely to do. Topping one and other with their make believe tales of their supposed adventures. They were so relaxed in this endeavor, they almost forgot just how high up they were. It was when his aunt called them for lunch that the problem occurred. Upon glancing down from their high perch a sudden fright came over both of the boys. They felt dizzy and froze at the prospect of lowering themselves down to the next limb. They tried, but just couldn’t bring themselves to do so. Panicking they began to shake uncontrollably, so much so his aunt was afraid they would indeed fall. She immediately went in and called the fire department to come and rescue the boys. This was a little embarrassing to them at this age, but it was also kind of exciting, to him anyway. Which probably also led to his erotic fantasies of men in uniform. Funny isn’t it how things that do happen to folks when they are kids do influence how we react to different stimulus in later life. Sometimes in fear of things and other times in awe of them. He had for long lusted after men in uniform, especially firemen. Now that he was thinking of more pleasant things he also remembered his first experience with a certain piece

of meat. He smiled to himself at the first time he remembered sliding it past his lips. It wasn’t exactly what he had come to love in his later years but it was his first introduction. Once again it occurred at his aunt’s house and it was with his favorite cousin.. They were sitting outside under the same tree they had gotten stuck up in a few years earlier, he remembers it was dusk and the sun was setting quickly, it would soon he dark. He didn’t really remember at what point he has placed the meat in his mouth, he did remember however that it was skinner than it had originally looked and it had a rather salty taste. Not so salty as to be unpleasant, but he definitely could taste it as it slid against his tongue. He remembered thinking that if it was longer it would probably fit in his bun a lot better, it was barely five inches long and awfully skinny; as it was it didn’t quite reach the end no matter how he adjusted it. He moved it in one way and then the other, but it just didn’t seem to reach the sides, it was no use it was just too small and the buns were just too wide. He finally gave up on making it fit that night and so began his quest to find just the right size piece of meat. As the years past, he tried just about every one he could get his hands on, no matter where he was able to find it. He tried at the amusement park during the summer months. He tried at the city parks, on the less traveled side street of the downtown area. His search seemed to led him every where but it was for naught, he was unable to find a piece of meat to sate his desires. He had just about given up his dream of finding the perfect piece when he met Peter. Peter quickly moved to give him just what he was looking for. The piece he presented him was the biggest one he had even seen, and he knew without measuring that it would fill his buns. It was much longer than most and though it wasn’t quite ready yet it had already swollen to a rather nice girth. He waited impatiently for Peter to slide it into his bun and when he did, he almost swooned. Slowly he raised it to his lips and opened wide…..it was the best weenie he had ever tasted, just why had he not found Ball Park Bun Size Hot Dogs on his own, he had no idea? in the spotlight NOMA Presents The Baroque World of Fernando Botero

N

ew Orleans -This summer, the New Orleans Museum of Art will present The Baroque World of Fernando Botero, the first major U.S retrospective of the artist’s work in more than 30 years, from June 28 to September 21, 2008. Recognized as one of the most wellknown and commercially successful artists to emerge from Latin America, the Colombia native now has his work exhibited and collected by major museums around the world, including the New Orleans Museum of Art. “Botero is an artist that uses his distinctive style to comment on all facets of human life,” said New Orleans Museum of Art Director E. John Bullard. “His portly figures can appear gentle and endearing in a family portrait, but the same style used to depict a political leader can have a satirical bite. We are proud to host this retrospective showcasing a beloved hero in Latin American art and further reinforcing NOMA’s commitment to exhibiting significant international artists.” Fernando Botero (born 1932) is a painter, sculptor, and draftsman who highlights the comedy of human life-moving or wry, baroque in expression, sometimes with a mocking observation, sometimes with a deep, elementary emotion. Working in a broad range of media, Botero has created a world of his own, at once accessible and enigmatic, with a particular blend of violence and beauty. Fernando Botero has spent most of his years as an artist away from his native country, Colombia, but his art has maintained an uninterrupted link to Latin America. The 100 paintings, drawings, and sculptures in this exhibition span the length of Botero’s career-from paintings executed in 1959 in Colombia, to sculptures executed as late as 2005. The works were selected by John Sillevis, curator of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, and editor and contributor to the accompanying exhibition catalogue. The exhibition is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. All of the works are generously on loan from the artist himself. This collection, assembled over the last 50 years, includes favorite works that Botero was heretofore unable to part with, as well as pieces reacquired years after they left his possession. Many of these objects are being exhibited in public for the first time, providing an opportunity to investigate the complex workings of this artist not only by viewing some of his most renowned masterpieces, but also by studying his most personal works of art.

The Baroque World of Fernando Botero presents a selection of the best works from various stages in his development as an artist, with occasional “flashbacks” to the early works of the 1950s, when Botero devised images of children that resembled giant dolls with frightening expressions. Here his struggle to define his own style is still evident. In 1957 he painted “Still Life with a Mandolin,” enlarging the volume of the musical instrument in a manner that we now identify with Botero’s style. He continued in this vein, painting a figure of a young girl inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa.” This painting was acquired-against the current of abstract expressionism that was dominating the art world in the United States at the time-by Dorothy Miller, curator at the Museum of Modern Art for that collection. After her initial support of Botero, museum curators the world over soon followed suit, presenting Botero’s works in major solo exhibitions. The exhibition also follows Botero in his extensive studies of the history of European art. In Spain he was particularly entranced by Velázquez’s Infantesthe daughters of the Spanish king-in their elaborate court dresses. In France he studied Ingres, the nineteenth-century master of neoclassical perfection in line, and Delacroix, the master of romantic color. Botero would find inspiration in Italy through artists from the Renaissance, including Uccello and Piero della Francesca. As a young boy he had already admired some contemporary artists, such as Pablo Picasso. He was now confronted with the paintings and sculptures of Giacometti, who was in the habit of reducing his figures to an extreme slimness. These encounters were important for Botero’s development. He was inspired by European art, but not seduced. He turned his attention to Mexico, where the monumental murals by Diego Rivera and David Siqueiros had a profound impact. Botero absorbed the dramatic self-portraits of Frida Kahlo and her idiosyncratic interpretation of Latin American folklore, and was intrigued by the mysteries of pre-Columbian artifacts. The Baroque World of Fernando Botero is divided into eight sections, corresponding to epochs and themes in Botero’s oeuvre. First, early works from the 1950s, the period during which Botero first defined his unique style. Second, paintings which draw from colonial baroque pieces Botero observed in Latin America, including religious images of clergy, Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary. The third section contains works inspired by European masters, ranging from Titian to Vincent Van Gogh. Fourth, are Botero’s eerie still lifes of lush and decaying fruit and flowers. Fifth, are images of power and violence in Latin

America: scenes of presidents, earthquakes, and executions. The sixth section is based on memories from Botero’s childhood in Colombia: street scenes, intimate interiors, and local figures. The seventh section focuses on Botero’s works on paper, including detailed chalk drawings and watercolors. Lastly, the exhibition closes with Botero’s elegant and imposing monumental bronze and marble sculptures. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue with essays by John Sillevis, guest curator; David Elliot, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo; and Edward Sullivan, Dean of Humanities and Professor of Latin American Art at New York University. The Baroque World of Fernando Botero is on a national tour that continues through 2010. Credits The Baroque World of Fernando Boterois sponsored in New Orleans by Pan-American Life Insurance Group. Additional support is provided by the Sheraton New Orleans and the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation. This exhibition is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. The Baroque World of Fernando Botero is accompanied by a fully illustrated, full-color exhibition catalogue. Dr. Sillevis, creator of more than twenty important exhibitions since 1978 on subjects ranging from Van Gogh and the Hague School to Frida Kahlo and Degas, is the author. Sullivan, Dean of the Humanities and Professor of Fine Art, New York University. The book also includes a biography of the artist, a list of Botero’s works in public collections, a list of selected solo exhibitions, a select bibliography, and an

index. The catalogue is published by Art Services International. US Premiere of Angels The Musical at The Strand in Shreveport

S

hreveport, LA - Angels The Musical, a multimillion dollar theatrical production on its way to Broadway, announced that it will rehearse and have its United States premiere at The Strand Theatre in Shreveport. “Louisiana presented us with an incredible opportunity with the passing of a tax incentive for theatre and live performing arts productions,” said Angels’ producer Marcus Cheong. “We had been considering venues to rehearse and preview the show before opening on Broadway when we learned about the state’s new legislation. This will not only save us money, but it will give us an opportunity to help build Louisiana’s theatre industry and the state’s economy as a whole. What better place to start than at the official state theater of Louisiana— The Strand Theatre?” Angels is an original musical that combines a timeless story with a contemporary new score. The musical is loosely based on Milton’s Paradise Lost and tells the epic story of the ancient war between the Angels and Lucifer’s fallen minions. It is a tale of good versus evil—angels vs. demons—told through the eyes of Sera, the Angel of Light. Though she is gifted with the power to control light with spectacular effect, she aspires to a more heroic role. Her ambition is manipulated by Lucifer, which results in tragic consequences to the Angels and the humans they protect. Rich Fowler will direct the musical. Angels will feature spectacular lighting effects and aerial choreography, unprecedented in Broadway history. It is the first production to take advantage of LA Act 482, which is being referred to by state and city officials as Louisiana’s new “Broadway South” tax incentive. Angels began as an amateur production by two University of Sydney students, Marcus Cheong and Ken Lai. Cheong, then a 24-year-old architecture graduate, wrote the script and lyrics, and Lai, a budding aeronautical engineer, wrote the music. They soon abandoned those fields of study to pursue theatrical careers. The unique staging possibilities presented by this story have the potential to enthrall audiences. But that is not all that has Strand Theatre Executive Director Danny Fogger thrilled about Angels producers’ decision to take advantage of the state’s newest tax incentive. “It is not simply the attention that Angels is garnering from Broadway producers that has those of us at The Strand Theatre in Shreveport excited about its plan to rehearse and hold its U.S. premiere here,” said Fogger. “Louisiana is the only state in the country currently offering live theater tax incentives. It has the potential to help establish Louisiana as a premiere cultural arts and music destination in the United States. It could also entice investors to build and renovate theaters in Louisiana,” added Fogger. Sponsors of the legislation hope the tax incentives will lure theatre and live performing arts productions to the state in the same way that tax credits have attracted

filmmakers to Louisiana. The credits will apply to drama, comedy, opera, ballet, jazz and variety entertainment. Ten per cent of any base investment on projects valued between $15,000 and $100,000 is returned and the credit rises to 20 and 25 per cent for larger base investments. An additional 10 per cent credit applies to payroll for Louisiana residents. The credits apply to every aspect of a production, including rehearsal, marketing and administration costs associated with live theatre. Angels is scheduled to open The Strand Theatre’s 20082009 season with its premiere beginning August 29 and running through September 13 before heading to Broadway. Tickets are currently on sale to Friends of the Strand and will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, June 3rd. Ticket prices are $46.50, $56.50 and $76.50. Go to www.thestrandtheatre.com to purchase tickets and/or check availability for this brand new, history-making, Broadway-bound musical and the rest of the Strand’s 2008-2009 season.

Summer Dips

ish

S

pring has sprung alas, and according to my calculations it lasted about forty-eight hours, and I don’t think it was a second more, and summers here blasted right upon us. Now are the times to sit on our screened verandas, fan in hand and a large sun bonnet shading our eyes, for it stays light now well into the cocktail hour. Of course southern folk know that when having those cool cocktails, it is always best to serve some chilled dips to keep from getting to sloshed. May I suggest some of my personal favorites?

CURRY DIP Great with vegetables, rich, think and creamy just right for dunking broccoli, carrots and such. 1 ½ cups mayonnaise 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon dry mustard ¾ teaspoon curry powder ½ teaspoon celery seed ¼ teaspoon instant minced onion 1 ½ teaspoons prepared horseradish 1 teaspoon white wine Worcestershire sauce 1/8 teaspoon hot sauce Combine all ingredients in a bowl; stir well. Cover and chill. Serve with assorted vegetables. Yield: 1 ½ cups

SWEET AND SPICY MUSTARD DIP Goes great with chicken strips or soft pretzels. 6 tablespoons mayonnaise 6 tablespoons coarse-grained mustard 2 tablespoons prepared horserad-

4 teaspoons sugar or Splenda Combine all ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl; uncovered, at high for thirty seconds, stirring once. Good served warm or chill. Yield: 1 cup

ANTIPASTO DIP 1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and chopped 2 (7 ounce) cans sliced mushrooms, drained and chopped 1 (7 ounce) jar roasted red peppers, drained and chopped 1 cup pimiento-stuffed olives, drained and chopped ½ cup chopped celery ½ cup chopped green pepper ½ cup finely chopped onion 1 clove garlic, minced ½ cup olive oil 2/3 cup white vinegar 2 ½ teaspoons Italian Seasoning 1 teaspoon seasoned salt 1 teaspoon sugar or Splenda ½ teaspoon ground black pepper Combine the first six ingredients together in a large bowl. Set aside. Sauté onion and garlic in oil in a saucepan over medium heat three minutes or until tender. Add vinegar and remaining four ingredients; bring to a boil. Remove from heat and pour over vegetables; cover and chill eight hours. Transfer to a serving dish using a slotted spoon. Serve with assorted crackers. Yield: five cups

EGGPLANT – MUSHROOM DIP 1 large eggplant (1 ½ – 2 lbs.) cubed (three cups) ¼ cup olive oil 1 medium bell pepper, chopped 1 medium onion, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup fresh mushrooms, chopped 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste ½ cup water 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar 2 teaspoons sugar ½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon dried oregano ¼ teaspoon black pepper Heat oil in a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat; add eggplant, green pepper, onion, and garlic. Cover and cook fifteen minutes, stirring occasionally. Add mushrooms and next seven ingredients. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer for fifteen minutes or until eggplant is tender, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly; cover and chill at least two hours. Yield: 3 cups. Serve with pita chips or bagel chips.

TAPENADE 1 cup pitted black olives ¼ cup fresh chopped basil 3 canned anchovy fillets, rinsed and drained 2 tablespoons capers 1 clove garlic 1 tablespoon lemon juice 2 teaspoons coarse-grained mustard 1/8 teaspoon black pepper ¼ cup olive oil Process the first eight ingredients in a food processor until minced, stopping to scrape down the sides. K

enneth Holditch, my dear friend, has been honored with a special exhibit of his Paul Cadmus and George Dureau works at the Museum of Art in City Park. It was so nice to see him again. I always enjoy his company and was so happy to have him as my house guest when Katrina hit New Orleans. We go back a long ways together. I knew of Kenneth and his work at the University of New Orleans long before I actually got acquainted with him. That acquaintance happened at the hugely successful Tennessee Williams Seminar held in Key West. This was a year or so before it became a popular annual seminar in New Orleans. I recall so vividly all the places we visited that were part of Tenn’s life when he lived in this Florida locale. Part of the idea of the seminar was to not only learn of his works but follow in his footsteps from his home to the bars and settings throughout the city where he lived and worked. It was a delightful seminar and the reason I started attending the annual January writers conferences in Key West. Kenneth is an authority on Tennessee’s works and life, but the focus of this exhibit is his collection of works by Cadmus and Dureau. Things were hectic

with lots of people enjoying this wonderful exhibit, and my friend was definitely in his element. He was really the center of attention almost as much as his works. As a world famous authority on Tennessee Williams, Kenneth is less well known as a distinguished collector of art. Works on paper by Cadmus and Dureau are central to this collection, and these sometimes provocative images are brought to the attention of a wider public. The collection is complimented by works from the NOMA collection of prints and

T

he Summer Break is here and people are out and about celebrating in full force. And as the weather gets hotter, so does the nightlife in downtown Lafayette. The temperature keeps rising as the drink prices drop, which definitely makes the heat and humidity a bit more tolerable. To make the heat and humidity even more tolerable, Lafayette’s premiere hot spots for the gay community, the Sound Factory and Back Side, are redefining nightlife here in Acadiana. They are open seven days a week to make sure no matter what night you decide to take a break from your busy life, they’ll not only be open, but have something festive going on. And with their Summer Lineup, the nights are just that much wilder. Mondays are a celebration of Monday Madness with Happy Hour drink specials all night long. And for those of you who have become accustomed to the weekly Pool Tournament at Back Side, don’t worry about a thing. Your favorite competition hasn’t changed. Tuesdays are Karaoke Night hosted by the ever popular Chad Evans. Chad has as much personality as he does talent. His charisma really breathes new

life into the karaoke experience. Wednesday are now Wild Wednesdays at Sound Factory, with a special themed party every other week. So far, this has been even more spectacular than anticipated. The first Wild Wednesday was a Luau Party and it was a real celebration of the summer spirit. There were people wearing everything from swimsuits to straw skirts, not to mention, everybody who walked in the door was given a complimentary lei. Now that’s what I call spreading good cheer. And the party will continue tomorrow night, June 4, with The White Party. So dig out your palest attire and come by to show off your tan because nothing says summer like an all white ensemble. And if you haven’t been by to check out Wild Wednesdays, now’s the time to do so. It’s becoming a tradition in Lafayette and redefining the middle of the week. Wednesdays this summer will be wilder than ever. Thursdays are Thirsty Thursday, and while I’m not going to print the specifics, I can assure you it involves drink specials that will top any others in town. Come by and I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised, along with your wallet. Friday nights are Long Friday with specials all night on your favorite longneck

drawings. Academic studies from the permanent collection provide a historical context. I didn’t get a chance to talk with George Dureau, so I’ll have my new neighbor Robert pass on my good thoughts about his work. George lives in one of his properties in New Orleans. In fact, I didn’t even get a chance to do a picture of him because of the large number of visitors to this special reception. As Amanda Wingfield indicated in The Glass Menagerie, it was a time for “our gentlemen callers to start arriving.” And the callers came, and the callers enjoyed. It was a splendid evening of seeing and greeting old friends - a reunion, so to speak. I must start doing this more often. Times gets away from you before you realize it, and things of this type are important to keep one in touch with current activities. I have to thank Sam for attending with me and being the chauffeur of the evening. It meant that we arrived in the city early so that we could dine on the wonderful seafood dinners we always enjoy so much. The exhibit and meeting old friends was the icing on the cake.

Gentleman Author

I

’ve known J.E. Bourgoyne for a number of years. He was an out standing employee of The TimesPicayune when I first met him, and he still is that same outstanding individual. Outside the T-P, people know him as the proprietor of one of the best and most elegant guest houses in New Orleans. Located on Bourbon Street, Bourgoyne Guest House is in the same block as Ambush Headquarters, and it offers a home away from home for many travelers coming into the city. Marietta’s House is a new book that has just been released, and it is a beautiful addition to my library. It deserves to be a part of your collection too. Told as much in pictures as in text, it is my friend’s poignant look at his grandmother’s home in old Turnerville, a part of the Plaquemine complex in Iberville Parish. It is told lovingly by someone who loved this pioneer woman who created this home and nurtured her family for three generations. Visiting this home in person or viewbeer. Saturdays are now Sizzling Saturday at Sound Factory, with drink specials on all your favorite liquor, not just the well drinks, but all your favorite call and premium brands as well. And to end the week, Sundays begin with Sunday Tea at Back Side and continues to Show Night at Sound Factory. What a way to end the week. And it all begins again the next day. With this new weekly lineup, Sound Factory and Back Side are showing Lafayette that there really can be a celebration every night of the week, and they are single-handedly providing it. With so much going on in downtown Lafayette, it is easy to see why it has gotten a reputation for having such a spectacular nightlife. And if you haven’ t been taking advantage of everything it has to offer, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Loosen up. Come out and play with all your friends. You’re sure to have a blast. Even though this is a story about childhood memories in Louisiana, it has appeal for anyone no matter where the location might be. Bourgoyne has dedicated this loving tribute to the past to Julie Marietta Gelpi Loupe (1894-1982) and Adam Oniel Loupe (1890-1944). Marietta’s house is on the west bank of the Mississippi River and 20 miles south of Baton Rouge and 100 miles above New Orleans. It is open by appointment as is another neighboring 1800s residence known as Miss Louise’s House. Old Turnerville is now a part of Plaquemine, but it still retains the mood and the atmosphere of days gone by. In the hands of a talented writer like Bourgoyne, the story of a home comes alive once more. In fact, his first story was published when he was only 12 years old, but what most people don’t realize is that this is a man who was at one time a trapeze artist. From daredevil heights to becoming an awarding-winning writer, Bourgoyne is at the top of his form in this stunning look at his grandmother’s home. Surviving levee breaks, hurricanes, and floods, Marietta’s home is alive once more thanks to the magnificent words of a beloved grandson. Be sure to check this one out. It is $22.50, and you can get it at major bookstores or directly from www.margaretmedia.com. Step back in time once more, and enjoy your journey. This is really a nice presentation from a very nice gentleman.

Gentlemen in Passing

P

assing him is about what I’ve done lately when it comes to a certain gentlemanly neighbor, but that is okay. Whether it is a wave or a smile or occasional conversation, this is someone you can certainly drool over. He seems rather quiet, but I doubt that is the case. Usually when someone appears this way, there is a smoldering fire beneath the façade. All I can say is that he fits into those clothes nicely, rather snugly to be exact, is always exhibiting a flair for clothing excellence, and he manages to look suave and debonair even on the hottest of days. Sometimes I wonder if he even sweats, but I have to say it would be nice to find out. I’ll let you know if I learn anything more about this Rapides stud. [continued on Expose-5]

hot tails of red stick ...from EX-4 There were two doctors in the house at the Museum of Art in New Orleans. Both were my former doctors when I lived in New Orleans and before Katrina. I first saw Dr. Brobson Lutz and got his attention immediately. Dr. Kenneth Combs joined us as we made our way to the upper level where all the gentlemen callers and their ladies were making their way. It was nice catching up on the latest from down New Orleans way. I also ran into Benjamin, who I hadn’t seen in so long. It’s a shame that I seem to have so much work to do that I can’t socialize more with my New Orleans friends. Of course, you know Benjy (did I spell that right?) from The Times-Picayune. I have always liked him, and he has always been so nice and cordial to me – even when I’m throwing beads to him from the Ambush balcony. Larry Bagnaris was another one that I ran into, but when you are viewing art and seeing so many faces, it is like old home week with everyone meeting and greeting and catching up on the latest. Needless to say, there was no time to chat. Back in Red Stick, I found a holiday that wasn’t boring, but it certainly was quiet. I think everyone must have been in New Orleans for Memorial Day. Believe it or not, I was in New Orleans again last Sunday for another function but I didn’t have time to make it down to the French Quarter. Hopefully, friends will send me pictures so I can see what and who I missed. Not really everyone went to New Orleans. The porch gathering over on Span-

ish Town Road went on as usual. This is usually a festive gathering of gentlemen, including my buddy Robert, who always manages to greet me enthusiastically. Women are seen at these weekly events, but it is more of a man’s thing – cooking out and shooting the bull. These affairs were at one time across the street, but the guy (namely Jerry) who rents that one is now shacked up – oops – preoccupied with someone of the opposite sex and doesn’t have time for hosting the gatherings anymore. That’s fine. When you live in a place as nice as Spanish Town, you soon find someone to take up the slack. By the way Robert, you need to tell me more about that guy you found naked in your bed. That must have been some blowout if you don’t recall how he got there. I know you are one to always enjoy life to it fullest, but you need to at least get their name first. Right? Now, it’s time to tell me more, so lets have it. Come on and spill the beans to me sweetie. I know Josie is not a gentleman, but she is definitely a gentle (wo)man. I do believe it was one of the big birthday celebrations on a cruise around the Gulf. Was it 40 again? Or 50? Come on and let me know so I share this with everyone. Or I’ll just corner Debbie again and get the scoop on you from her. At any rate, I trust you had a great one. Splash bar baron Jeff gave me a walkthorough explanation of the new C02 system they have over the dance floor. He was on one computer, and Cory was on another one trying to keep up. I had actually already been given the scare treatment by sexy David. He fooled me by having me [continued on Expose-17]

hot tails of red stick ...from EX-5 stand under the apparatus while he did a quick turn on. I must have cleared the floor at the sudden gust of cool air. David, darling, this is not the kind of turn on I was expecting. I guess I’m going to have to sit you down and explain things a little better. Maybe I can linger around when I deliver Ambush to the bar next time. Hmmm. Two other gentleman travelers just returned from Atlanta. I’m not sure exactly why they did such a quickie, but then again, these are sometimes the best kind. I speak of trips here, not anything sexual. I know I didn’t have to explain here but I did want to clarify myself. Brandon is always working so much, I’ll have to corner Robert and get the scoop from him. Inquiring minds need to know these things. I have to tell you about my English gentleman again too. I don’t see him walking down the street that much anymore, but it is getting rather hot so his breaks from work are not as often as they were in the past. It is either that or he is afraid I may be getting a little too forward with him. I’m always friendly so I don’t know why he would think that unless he is a little on the defensive, which certainly isn’t necessary. I do have to tell you that he was working in his yard last week, and since I live across the street I can

gaze over and check him out whenever I so desire. Well, I have a front door that has a loud click, even more so when I want it to really click loud, so I came back in, gave it a quick closure, and this sexy little number nearly lost his balance from turning so quickly to see if I was coming or going. I wonder exactly what he was thinking at that moment, and I certainly hope he didn’t injure his neck from twisting around so quickly. Goodness! I may have to put him on my massage table and help get the kinks out. Now that summer is so close upon us, it’s time to clean the binoculars, keep the glasses handy, and be on the lookout for gentlemanly studs. I’m sure there were plenty out for Decadence last year, but I had so many other things to do that I just didn’t have time to make the scene. Maybe I’ll get another surprise picture from my Sulphur flash of some nice appendage like the one last year. It would really have to be something special to compare to my Acadiana friend’s nice bodily masterpiece. I always love to admire the male body. It really is a masterly piece of art, and since I enjoy art and masterpieces so much, I really and truly appreciate the sharing that goes on among so many of my male friends, or strangers for that matter. After all, it is the gentlemanly thing to do.
