Dusty Debris Crowned King Cake Queen XX on Jan. 26 The 20th King Cake Queen Coronation is set for Saturday, Jan. 26, where Dusty Debris will be presented as King Cake Queen XX: The Platinum Queen to Gay Carnival Society. The Krewe of Queenateenas by invitation only soiree is very limited with only 250 invitations issued. Since it is an anniversary year, it will bring together many of the past King Cake Queens in crowns as members of the King Cake Queen Royalty Club. Additionally, many of the reigning royalty of fellow krewes have been invited to wear their royal crowns and sashes for the festive occasion. Co-Captains Rip and Marsha Naquin-Delain chose Debris as the "individual exhibiting the most enthusiasm and expertise in bead toss techniques" at last year's Official Gay Mardi Gras
Bead Toss, the only criteria used to choose the King Cake Queen. As "The Platinum Queen," Debris will headline the 2013 festivities over 20 Years of Magic, Myths & Mortals. The big day is Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), Feb. 12 when King Cake Queen XX Dusty Debris leads the 26th annual Official Gay Mardi Gras Bead Toss from the Ambush Balcony, 828 Bourbon Street, at 2pm. Dusty Debris is the youngest individual to ever reign as King Cake Queen, and made 22 years old on Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, 2012. The drag daughter of New Orleans' bigger-than-life Blanche Debris, Dusty is the three-year partner of Frankie "Fierce" Wingerter, graduate of Tulane University, and was the recipient of this year's Marsha Delain Award of Excellence: The Drag Ambassador Award. The Krewe of Barkus XXI Parade is set for Sunday, Jan. 27 starting promptly at 2pm. This year's theme is Tails & Tiaras “Here Comes Honey Bow Wow”. The parade proceeds through the Vieux Carré, stopping at the VIP Reviewing Stand at Good Friends Bar, corner Dauphine and St. Ann, where VIPs (and those who desire to be VIPs) will toast the Royal Court. King Barkus XXI is Jacques Miller Wallis who will be five in January. His proud parents are Virginia Miller and Bruce Wallis. Queen Barkus XXI is to be announced. able. Armstrong Park opens to all at 10:30am and is the staging area for the parade participants. Membership in the parade krewe is open to all dogs - regardless of their past. Pre-registration (membership dues & parade pass) is $40 until Jan. 23 (PLEASE NOTE: Online/fax registration ends at midnight CST, Wednesday, Jan. 23). Day-of-parade registration (Jan. 27) at Armstrong Park is $50. Registration includes one dog and one human escort. Additional human escort passes can be purchased for $8 each online or the day of the parade. Only dogs who are registered krewe members with parade tags will be allowed to be part of the parade. If you are not parading this year, but still wish to support this doggone good cause, you can become a krewe member for $20. Krewe members receive all mailings of the Krewe for one year.
Barkus Parade Route The Barkus Royal Ball (humans only) is a black-tie optional, costumeencouraged event will take place at The Windsor Court Hotel, New Orleans (300 Gravier) from 8pm to midnight, on Friday, Jan. 25.
