baton rouge, the capital city Baton Rouge Pride Fest Honors Community Leaders as 2014 Grand Marshals; Full Day of Activities Planned for June 28 The Baton Rouge Pride team will honor two individuals who have offered years of service to the community as its 2014 honorary grand marshals. The honorees, Cami Miller and Joe Traigle, are well known in the Baton Rouge GLBTQ community and have played a variety of key roles in it, including leading the area’s Capital City Alliance in some of its earliest days. In addition to presenting those honors to Miller and Traigle at 3pm, the Baton Rouge Pride Fest will include a full afternoon of activities and entertainment from noon until 6pm Saturday, June 28, at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium. “We’re definitely proud of what we have to offer Baton Rouge, and we hope to surpass the nearly 5,000 people who attended last year,” said Tom Merrill, chairman of Baton Rouge Pride Inc. and the Baton Rouge Pride Fest. “We think we definitely have something for everyone. “As with our past events, it’s going to be a family-friendly atmosphere, where you can be comfortable bringing your friends, family or anyone else interested in celebrating with us and in enjoying a great day of entertainment and education.” Miller has been a psychiatric nurse, an interpreter, a ship chandler, a debt collector, a nanny, a trainer and a coach… and once even sold sand to Arabs for about five years. She first became active in GLBTQ affairs in 1998 and along the way served as cochair of Capital City Alliance, a board member of LAGPAC (the Lesbian and Gay Political Action Committee) and a member of DBR HOPE, a GBLT out-

Miller, who currently coaches entrepreneurs and business leaders, lives with her wife Susan in Baton Rouge and has two children. She says she is inspired by the changes taking place in our country and the world related to LGBTQ rights. Raised in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Traigle married shortly after college and has two grown children. Early in his career, he moved to Baton Rouge to serve a term as Louisiana’s Secretary of Revenue, as well as in a number of other civic and business positions including president of Great American Corp. and American Bank and as chairman of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce. At 50 years old, Traigle began living his life in Baton Rouge as an openly gay businessman, and in the early 1990s he and other individuals founded Capital City Alliance. He has been an active equality activist since – including one of the leaders in the One Baton Rouge initiative, which began in 2007. Traigle and his partner, Carey Long, have been together 20 years. “We hope everyone will join us in congratulating these two extremely deserving members of our community as the 2014 Grand Marshals of Baton Rouge Pride,” Merrill said. “And we certainly hope everyone will be there to enjoy a great day of pride activities.” This year’s honorary grand marshals join the ranks of previous honorees: Jody Huckaby and Carol Frazier – 2013; Daphne MuShatt – 2012; Trixxie LaRue (James Chinn) – 2011;
Larry Fremin – 2010; and Richard Dykes – 2009. As for other activities during the day: The Pride Fest entertainment lineup includes legendary “Diva” Daphne MuShatt with a new band known as The Shiz, special guests Austin Babtist Women, local rapper Princess Kutt, Christian artist Shawn Thomas, local favorites the Krewe of Divas and the Michael Foster Project. Four local organizations will offer free HIV counseling and testing during the event. The Equality March will kick off at 6pm following the BR Pride festival, with participants marching from the Belle to the state Capitol. Admission to Baton Rouge Pride is free. The Up Stairs Lounge Fire 41 Years Later June 24 marks the 41st anniversary of the deadliest crime against gays in lesbians in American history. Interest in the Up Stairs Lounge fire has peaked since the 40th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony last year at the Historic New Orleans Collection. Two documentary films about the fire are currently in production and a new book about the tragedy has been published. In the last year, the fire has been featured in both Time Magazine and The Advocate.
Remembering the Up Stairs Lounge Fire On Sunday evening, June 24, 1973, the deadliest crime against gays and lesbians in the history of the United States occurred at the Up Stairs Lounge in the French Quarter. On that night an arsonist set the gay bar on fire killing 32 people and injuring still more. Many people, then and now, mistakenly believe the fire was a hate crime motivated by homophobia. It wasn’t. Rather, the crime was motivated by anger and revenge. On that fateful evening, an unruly hustler, Rodger Dale Nunez, was thrown out of the bar for badgering and fighting with a regular customer, Mike Scarborough. Scarborough was in the bathroom when Nunez, who was in the next stall, started harassing him through the glory hole. Scarborough complained to the bartender. As he was being escorted out of the bar, Nunez threatened to “burn you all out.” About thirty minutes later, a fire broke out on the stairwell. Then the buzzer in the bar rang which usually meant a cab had arrived. Luther Boggs, a regular at the lounge, opened the door to the stairwell to be greeted by roaring flames. As the fire spread, panic ensued. Bartender Buddy Rasmussen led about twenty people through a rear fire exit which was not clearly marked. Many dashed for the windows but the windows had burglar bars. A few were skinny enough to squeeze through but the others were doomed. Katherine Kirsch was on her way to buy cigarettes around 7:45pm when she smelled smoke at the corner of Iberville and Chartres. She opened the stairwell, saw the flames and immediately ran to the Midship Bar next door to call the police. Fire trucks arrived about two minutes later. They were met by a grizzly, horrific scene. The lifeless body of Bill Larson, Pastor of the local Metropolitan Community Church, was wedged in the window, his face and right arm protruding stiffly over the street. Buddy Rasmussen saw his boyfriend, Adam Fontenot, knocked off his feet with a blast from a fire hose while he flayed around on fire. George Mitchell escaped the fire but ran back in to rescue his boyfriend, Louis Broussard; their bodies were found
intertwined, thereby occupying in death a position they saw often occupied in life. Many of the dead were burned beyond recognition but were ultimately identified through the dental records of local dentist Perry Waters, who also perished in the fire. Thirty men and two women died as a result of the arson. Nunez, who drunkenly confessed to the crime to friends on more than one occasion, committed suicide the following year. Some believe Nunez killed himself because he was so filled with remorse. Initial media reports and the police response to the fire were less than sympathetic. Some family members of the deceased refused to claim the ashes of their “loved” ones. Radio commentators joked the remains should be buried in fruit jars. The States-Item graphically described the aftermath of the fire: “workers stood knee deep in bodies . . . the heat had been so intense, many were cooked together.” On the issue of identifying the victims, Major Henry Morris, a detective with the New Orleans Police Department said, “We don’t even know these papers belonged to the people we found them on. Some thieves hung out there, and you know this was a queer bar.” At the time, many gay men routinely carried false identification to gay bars in order to avoid being outed in the newspapers in the event they were arrested during a police raid. While the media coverage was cruel and the police response was nonchalant, the religious establishment’s reaction was downright hateful. Church after church after church refused the use of their facilities for a memorial service. Father Bill Richardson (himself believed to be a closeted gay man) of St. George’s Episcopal Church, however, believed the dead should have a service and graciously allowed, over the protest of many parishioners, the use of St. George’s sanctuary for a prayer service on Monday night which was attended by roughly 80 people. He was subsequently chastised by his bishop and received no small amount of hate mail. Days later a Unitarian Church also held a small memorial service. A larger service was held on July 1 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on the
edge of the French Quarter. Reverend Troy Perry, founder of the Metropolitan Community Church, officiated the service at St. Mark’s along with Methodist Bishop Finis Crutchfield, who would die 14 years later from AIDS. After the service, Reverend Perry pointed out a side entrance for those who wished to avoid the television cameras which waited outside the main entrance. Of the estimated 250 people in attendance, no one took his offer. The Up Stairs Lounge arson attracted gay activists from all over the country to New Orleans. Reverend Troy Perry and others criticized the gay community of New Orleans for its apathetic attitude and general lethargy regarding the gay liberation movement so much in vogue in other American cities at the time. Local bar owners concerned about how all the attention might affect their businesses and prominent gay men who had grown comfortable with their place in the order of things responded by calling Perry and the other activists “carpetbaggers” and “outside agitators.” Despite these objections, the fire motivated a handful of activists to form the Gay People’s Coalition (GPC). The GPC launched a publication, Causeway, and established a Gay Crisis Phone Line. Causeway was edited anonymously by Bill Rushton, then a student at Tulane University, who also edited the Vieux Carre’ Courier. An editorial from the January 1974 edition of Causeway boldly declared, “There are enough gay men and women in N.O. who are able to do anything they wish—be it swinging an election or electing a gay city councilman.” This clarion call, while certainly true, fell on deaf ears. As the embers of the fire cooled, so did the ire of the gay community. In what was to become the dominant pattern of gay activism in New Orleans, the GPC, and Causeway, eventually faded away. Former Baptist minister Mike Stark formed the Gay Services Center, located on Burgundy in the Marigny, in 1974. Initially the group enjoyed a flurry of activity, including the publication of a newsletter, the Closet Door. But the group’s promise was never fulfilled; in a familiar pattern, the newsletter and the group were soon moribund. The Up Stairs Lounge fire was a seminal moment in the history of gay New Orleans, the significance of which was even noticed by the arch-conservative Times-Picayune. A month and a half after the fire, the paper published a week-long series of six articles, all written by Joan Treadway, concerning homosexuality, the first of which was titled, “Gay Community Surfaces in Tragedy of N.O. Fire.” The tone of the article is surprisingly objective and Treadway even quotes local gay activists who succinctly summarized the multitude of dilemmas facing gay New Orleanians, namely police harassment, job and housing discrimination, and
general societal alienation. In addition to forcing straight New Orleans to acknowledge its gay community, the fire also forced the gay community in New Orleans to confront itself. In this regard, the fire was our Stonewall—a wake-up call that sparked the activism of the 1970s and caused gays and lesbians in New Orleans to mature as a community.

when we went to see funeral director Billy Henry to make Sonny’s final arrangements. We were concerned about the place for the service itself, because we believed Sonny’s popularity and respect he had throughout the community would bring out a large crowd. Billy gave us 300 seats in the solarium at Bultman Funeral Home on St. Charles Avenue. A special thanks to Billy for making things so easy for all of us at such a difficult time. With everything now in place, we returned to work at Ambush, since it was deadline week. Once Sonny became really ill in October, 1999 he never returned to work in the office. Ambush continued to pay Sonny all his commissions and for work he was able to accomplish on the Web at home until his death. Friday, June 16th finally arrived and we headed on over to Bultman for Sonny’s funeral service. The place was beautiful with loads of floral tributes there for our Sonny, even from Pride Atlanta and Pride New York. We thought of him like our own child, now experiencing the grief that proud parents know when they lose such an incredible, vibrant, young kid. We have to believe Sonny was there with all of us. He must have been proud to see all 300 chairs filled and more standing in the beautiful solarium. Some of his friends and blood family came up and spoke about Sonny, his life and how Sonny affected their
lives. We were so emotional, we were unable to speak. It was a moving farewell for us to witness for a young man who affected every single person whose life he touched in his own special way. Following the service, Tom Frese opened the doors of 735 nightclub/bar for cocktails along with hors d’oeurvres to celebrate Sonny’s life. It was marvelous to meet so many of Sonny’s friends who we did not know and hear their stories of the young man we all had loved so much. In addition to his efforts in New Orleans Gay Pride Festival for years, Sonny also previously served on the board of the Lesbian and Gay Community Center of New Orleans and was president of the Gay Appreciation Awards. Sonny, as Christine Cheridon, was King Cake Queen VI in 1998 reigning as Czarina over the Krewe of Queenateenas’ Mardi Gras festivities that year, “Czars, Czarinzas & Queenateenas.” Professionally, Sonny was managing editor/sales manager of Ambush Magazine, wrote his column 3 Snaps, and was one of the webmasters at AMBUSHonLINE, a conglomerate of some 56 LGBT websites reaching an international audience on the Internet. Sonny also did lights dazzling dance nights at Bourbon Pub/Parade, Oz and 735 nightclub/bar.

moments in gay new orleans history by Frank Perez E-mail: f.perez@sbcglobal.net Photo by: Larry Graham, GrahamStudioOne.COM
“Storme DeLarverie: The New Orleans Connection to Stonewall” The New Orleans area LGBT+ community swelled with pride recently when hometown girl Bianca Del Rio won RuPaul’s “Drag Race.” Bianca has already made her mark on local gay history and will continue to do so. As she does, let us remember another New Orleans drag performer who moved to New York and made it big: Storme DeLarverie. Doesn’t ring a bell? Storme was one of the first people to throw a punch at the police when they raided the Stonewall Inn in June of 1969. For the benefit of any young people reading this column who may not be familiar with Stonewall, the Stonewall Inn was a gay bar in Greenwich Village in the late 1960s. Around 1:20am on Saturday, June 28, 1969, the police raided the bar, as it had several times before. But this time was different. This time someone decided to fight back and punched a police officer in the face. Storme Delarverie is widely believed to be that someone. After the first punch was thrown, all hell broke loose and the gay pride in June. Storme recalled that fateful night at “riot” lasted three days. The Stonewall Rebellion sparked the modern gay rights a “Stonewall Symposium” sponsored movement. That is why we celebrate by the Stonewall Veterans Association:
“It was a rebellion, it was an uprising, it was a civil rights disobedience — it wasn’t no damn riot. The cops were parading patrons out of the front door of The Stonewall at about two o’ clock in the morning. I saw this one boy being taken out by three cops, only one in uniform. Three to one! I told my pals, ‘I know him! That’s Williamson, my friend Sonia Jane’s friend.’ Williamson briefly broke loose but they grabbed the back of his jacket and pulled him right down on the cement street. One of them did a drop kick on him. Another cop senselessly hit him from the back. Right after that, a cop said to me: ‘Move faggot’, thinking that I was a Gay guy. I said, ‘I will not! And, don’t you dare touch me.” With that, the cop shoved me and I instinctively punched him right in his face. He bled! He was then dropping to the ground — not me!” Storme DeLarverie was born (December 24, 1920) and raised in New Orleans as a girl to a white father and a black mother. She eventually realized she was a lesbian and began to dress as a man. Throughout her long life, Storme had a knack for complicating binary norms such as black/white, male/female, lesbian/straight. She was a very private person and usually evaded reporters’ questions regarding her race and gender. This blurring of lines was too much for some. In 1961, Storme sat for famed photographer
Diane Arbus for a project called “The Full Circle.” When Harper’s Bazaar published a story on Arbus’ project, the magazine refused to print a photograph of Storme. Long before she earned her place in the pantheon of gay rights heroes, Storme made history as a performer. She got her start in the 1940s as a big band singer named Stormy Dale. Later, she became Storme DeLarverie and began touring with the famed Jewel Box Review, a racially integrated drag troupe that toured the country from the 1930s to the 1960s. Storme joined the Review in 1955 and performed with it until 1969. She was the show’s only drag king, often serving as Master of Ceremonies and sometimes managing the group. In 1987, Storme was the subject of documentary by Michelle Parkerson called Stormé: The Lady of the Jewel Box. She eventually settled in New York, living for decades at the Chelsea Hotel. In the 1990s, she worked as a bouncer at several lesbian bars and often “patrolled” Greenwich Village packing a pistol and a knife. Storme DeLarverie was a cofounder of the Stonewall Veterans Association. She often led the annual New York City Gay Pride Parade and has been called the Rosa Parks of the gay rights movement. She died on May 24, 2014, at the age of 93.

Book of the Month It is officially summertime, so that means trips to the beach, long airplane rides and mindless summer reads. Nothing beats sitting on a hammock, beach or wherever you are and getting lost in a novel, so this summer, my books of the month will be devoted to those types of escapist novels. I decided to get a jump on the fall movie season and read the final chapter of the Hunger Games Trilogy before its movie release date in November. Mockingjay concludes the saga of heroine Katniss Everdeen as she rebels against the Capitol. The book picks up the action immediately after the last book ends. Katniss has been rescued from the arena from the Quarter Quell and now finds herself in the thought destroyed District Thirteen. Suzanne Collins has crafted a masterful ending to the story with many twists and turns. Mockingjay is a science fiction fan’s dream, but gives the reader so much more. It is a taut political thriller and love story that keeps you guessing up until the extremely satisfying conclusion that I never saw coming. Collins’ characters are multi-dimensional people which the reader relates and cares about. When someone dies, you feel pain; that is a gift a great storyteller. The love triangle of Katniss, Gale and Peeta, which was a main focus, now, takes a secondary seat to non-stop action of the war. With everything at stake, Katniss most make her choices wisely to assure that those she loves survive. From the moment you start Mockingjay, you are drawn into the chaos. Even though I joked at the beginning of the article about mindless summer reads, this book is anything but. It is an enjoyable page turner that questions how we look at authority, what is right and what is wrong and the true meaning of sacrifice. If you have not read any of the Hunger Games, I highly recommend you put them on your list. Each book was more enjoyable than the last. For more information on Collins and the novels, go to www.suzannecollinsbooks. And “May the odds be ever in your favor.”
Fabulous Festigals New Orleans is a city with an abundance of festivals, but June the city has two that celebrates just being you. The first is the wonderfully fabulous Festigals June 19 – 22. FestiGals fourth annual girls getaway weekend, created for women by women, features four days
of inspirational seminars, empowerment workshops, a world-class culinary presentation, a second-line parade where “YOU” are the star, unique shopping opportunities and so much more. There are several events during this festival that are inspiring, educational and just plain for ladies (and for certain events, the men too). The most popular event during the weekend is the festival’s signature fundraising initiative Bodacious Bras For A Cause Auction and Luncheon. From local celebrities to members of the new wave rock band The B-52’s, the cups runneth over with creativity and plenty of goodies inside. No seriously, most of this year’s Bra-ART is stuffed with gifts and prizes. In addition to potentially owning a unique piece of art, winning bidders may also score on museum memberships, valuable gift certificates, jewelry, lux hotel stays, and a variety of merchandise that every woman will envy. The best part of getting in on all the action is that the FestiGals organization donates 100% of bra auction proceeds to the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans, a United Way community impact partner. Some of the celebrities who have created Bra-ART for the auction include media sweetheart Angela Hill, the Soul Queen of New Orleans Irma Thomas, entertainer Chris Owens, Food Goddess Lorin Gaudin, bead artist Stephan Wangler, and the Mardi Gras Indian’s Queen Reesie Cherice Harrison-Nelson. FestiGals Bra-ART auction chairwoman, Mary Katherine Lonatra-Tusa, has also submitted a stunning piece inspired by Carnival in Rio! If you want to preview FestiGals entire 2014 Bra-ART Collection in person, simply head over to Stein Mart of Metairie located at 2840 Veterans Memorial Boulevard. FestiGals Bodacious Bras For A Cause Luncheon and Auction will be held on Saturday, June 21st from 11:30am-1:45am at the Hotel Monteleone La Nouvelle Ball Room. Come early at 10:30am for a complimentary Bloody Mary Mixer in Royal AD for drinks, socializing and shopping. In addition to this unique auction, the luncheon boasts multiple #1 New York Times bestselling author, THE Sweet Potato Queen, Jill Conner Browne as the keynote speaker. And later that Saturday, FestiGals take to Bourbon Street for a one-of-akind New Orleans experience during the Stiletto Stroll. Stroll, strut, and sashay
down the historic street in a spectacular second line parade escorted by police motorcycles, surrounded by female musicians, dancers, and marching groups. Ladies (and gentlemen) you’ll feel festive and ready to roll, with or without stilettos and costumes! This year, they’re introducing an added and flamboyant new activity to precede the Stiletto Stroll: The Stiletto Sprint! This fun dash will travel two blocks of Royal Street toward Canal Street to the finish-line in front of the Hotel Monteleone where an Awards Ceremony will take place and the Stiletto Stroll will commence. Participants can enter individually or as a group free of charge. The funds raised from the Stiletto Sprint will be donated to the Breast Center at Ochsner Baptist. Money raised will be used by the Breast Center for patient education, equipment, 3D Tomosynthesis mammography, and nurse training. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, team outfits or colorful sportswear when strutting their stuff and will be eligible for first, second, and third place prizes based on creativity, team spirit, as well as speed. This Stiletto Sprint is open to both men and women, so strap on some heels on your men and bring them out to support a great cause! The stroll will end at Bourbon Heat, where you’ll eat, drink, and be merry FestiGals style with complementary cocktails, food, and entertainment. Bourbon Heat’s 50-foot balcony overlooking Bourbon Street is a perfect location to soak in the excitement of the French Quarter. So ladies, grab your girlfriend or your GBF and join in all the excitement that brings attendees from all over the country. To purchase tickets to individual events and for detailed information on the entire FestiGals weekend, please visit www.FestiGals.org or call 1.855.425.9563.
Get Proud New Orleans Pride is proud to present a weekend filled with entertainment, family and fun June 20 – 22. There is something for everyone this year, so try to make it out one or more of the events. Beginning on Friday, June 20, Pride is holding their Kick Off Party and Slot Tournament at Boomtown Casino from 8 to 11pm hosted by Sandy Anderson as Dolly Parton. This is your opportunity to meet and greet with Trevor Wayne and Chris Salvatore along with this year’s Pride Grand Marshals, Tittie Toulouse and Electra City. Chris is this year celebrity grand marshal and he is best known as an American actor, singer-songwriter, model, and gay-rights activist. Chris Salvatore is known for his single “Dirty Love” and his songs have been featured on MTV’s show Paris Hilton’s My New BFF and in the movie credits of Eating Out 3: All You Can Eat.
Salvatore starred in the movie Eating Out 3, 4, and 5. I do believe these are stand-alone films, so if you did not see 1 and 2, you’re good. In August 2013 Chris Salvatore was named “GymPaws Fit Guy of the Week” in recognition of being a positive role model to his fans and embracing and encouraging healthy lifestyle choices. It is great that he was able to make it down her to help us celebrate. That same evening from 10pm to midnight there are two simultaneous events for Pride. The first is an 80’s Party at Lucky Pierre’s with a costume contest and the other one is a Ladies Pride Party at Mags. Attend one or both, either way, you are bound to pass a good time. Delaney and Robb are sponsoring the Family Day on Saturday, June 21 from 11am to 5pm at Duncan Plaza followed by the Pride Parade at 7pm. There are after parade events following at 10pm at Oz, Dragon’s Den, and Mags. On Sunday, June 22, there will be a pride brunch at the Sheraton Hotel New Orleans from 10am to noon. Congratulations should go out to the entire pride board for putting together such an exciting weekend for everyone.
Read NOLA Recently a friend turned me on to this new group and I fell in love instantly. They combine two of my favorite past times in one fabulous monthly event: drinking and reading. Fleur de Lit and Pearl Wine Company presents their next literary evening called Reading Between the Wines on Wednesday, July 9 from 6:30-7:30pm. The event is usually on the first Wednesday of the month and has a different slant/genre it focuses on this. July will be journalism. The event will feature authors Sally Asher, Sherry Lee Alexander and Stephanie Grace discussing their careers in journalism and how it affects their writing. Pearl will offer a selection of $5 glasses of wine, and Maple Street Book Shop will be on hand to sell books. Pearl also has an excellent selection of beer and liquor, and the bar offers amazing cocktails. All of our events are free and open to the public and kid friendly. Fleur de Lit is dedicated to promoting and endorsing the local New Orleans literary scene, from authors and small publishers to literary non-profits, libraries, and local book sellers. Their goal is to be your one-stop-shop for all things literary in the New Orleans metro area, and our mission is to provide free advertising and promotion for literary people and organizations that do not have the means to promote themselves. For more information on this group or to learn more about their events, go to www.fleurdelit.com. [continued on 33]

Party Down The blistering heat of summer has not yet descended upon us, but the party scene has heated up extensively. On Thursday, I went to the Ogden After Hours at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in the Warehouse District. NO/ AIDS Task Force “Young@Art,” partnered with the Ogden for an evening of great local music, and art featuring a performance by “The Geraniums.” Even though it was a little damp guests were still able to enjoy cocktails on the Ogden’s roof terrace overlooking the
WWII museum and Lee Circle. Earlier that day, the clients of the Lifeskills program had a tour of the facility. Young@Art, sponsored by Chevron, is a series of events which helps support the Lifeskills program of NO/ AIDS Task Force. The Lifeskills program provides clients with the opportunity to enrich their lives through a series of supportive seminars on topics such as painting, home gardening, personal finance, computer literacy, job searching tips and much more. These events are held throughout the year, so please [continued on 36]

2 Crawfish Boils, $2,105, all for SD 2014 Wow, what an action packed day! Saturday, June 7th, kicked off for us around 12noon when we headed on over to The Golden Lantern for their Day of Decadence fundraiser. It all started at 10am as proprietor James Garner donated half a house full of furniture, dishes, object d'art, suit cases and we don't know what all, for the Decadence Garage Sale. A couple of blocks away from the bar, we could already smell the spicy crawfish boiling away. We arrived just in time to see Southern Decadence Grand Marshal XL Chad Boutte and his partner Steven Mora loading up some furniture from the sale. They had both helped James all morning, as well as others to make the sale a success. Jon and Derek Penton-Robicheaux were getting ready to pull a batch of hot crawfish from the huge pot, and boy, were they some big crawfish. The Crawfish Boil was set for 2pm, but they started serving around 1:30. For 10 bucks, you got an over stuffed to-go box with crawfish and the fixins. And did they have the fixins... hot and spicy mushrooms, brussels sprouts, green beans, onions, potatoes, corn of the cob, garlic, and both smoked sausage and hot dogs. It's was on the spicy side, but delish! The days take was $605.91, which now brings the Official Home of Southern Decadence, The

Weddings are always a joyous celebration, especially in the gay community now that we are allowed to marry. Although they were married in another state (sadly Louisiana has not legalized this yet), Bob and Lawsen repeated their vows again at their wedding at the Stonebridge Estates on the Westbank for a gathering of their family and friends. The weather cleared just in time for the ceremony and the festivities as these two men renewed their love for each other as the sun creating a naturally gorgeous background. The backyard home of their friend LuAnne was transformed into tropical oasis with lit tiki style torches and a large tented draped in white fabric with a crystal chandelier. The champagne

Golden Lantern donations to $5,500 towards this year's celebration. Congrats guys! A short while later we headed out to The Four Seasons in Metairie for their Southern Decadence Crawfish Boil which was set for 2-5pm. Proprietors Electra City and Tittie Toulouse were getting things ready with Jerome joining them at the boiling pot. Meanwhile, Kookie Baker was at the grill doing her chicken breasts to perfection for those not partaking of the crawdads. Manning the door was Steven Mora, while SDGM Chad Boutte was greeting guests as they entered the Patio Stage
Bar. SDGMs XL Aubrey Synclaire and Reba Douglas showed up a short while later. Here it was $20 all-you-could-eat hot boiled crawfish, and of course, the fixins... big juicy smoked sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob, onions and garlic. We ate way too much, and could barely waddle out of the joint. Later during the afternoon, they hosted an auction with some great prizes. Many thanks to all who donated to make this event a success, especially Chef Ron's Gumbo Shop - $100, Spudly's - $100, Lazy Day Cafe - $50, Four Seasons - $200, and Chicken Scratch LLC - $230. It brought in another $1,400 for SD 2014, bringing The Four Seasons donations to $2,400. Congratulations!

Eva "The Diva" Las Vegas Celebrates 75th B-day @ Golden Lantern Yes, that's right, Eva "The Diva" Las Vegas, believed to be the oldest drag queen in New Orleans, celebrated her 75th birthday on Sunday. Hosted by The Golden Lantern, Eva was a vision as friends and well-wishers poured into the Official Home of Southern Decadence to join in her day. Proprietor James presented one of his famous buffets for the occasion, as last year's Southern Decadence Grand Marshal Tami Tarmac (as a MAN) emceed the affair. New bartender Jeff Turberville served our cocktails while we visited with Tami, whom we haven't seen in a while. Y'all know that Tami has some stories, and we're sure they're all true! Love you girl! Both Regina Adams and Tru DeMille were a couple of the other celebs in the house. It had been a very long day and weekend, so we headed back home to Bourbon Street.

To Quote A Queen June is here, and gay prides (including here in NOLA) are going on around the country. In honor of Gay Pride Month, I thought some fun quotes having to do with the month and Pride parades would be fun. Enjoy and do not forget to come out and show your pride. “”Let’s give thanks. There isn’t a parade where straight guys feel comfortable enough to take off their shirts and dance.” Unknown “Marching in the Gay Pride Parade is less exciting now that my parents support my sexual orientation.” Unknown “It’s time we all accepted the Gay Pride Parade isn’t much gayer than any other parade.” Unknown “The Kinsey Institute says gay men have bigger sex organs. Hence the origin of gay pride.” Jay Leno quotes “I’m openly gay, and I’m not ashamed of it.” Marc Jacobs

A Week at Gay Days in Orlando!! So I got the opportunity to go to Orlando Florida & cover Disney World's Gay Days for Ambush Mag. I went June 4th – June 9th. So Wednesday night, I arrived at the residence of fellow New Orleanian, Corey Torres. We went and walked around downtown Disney to stretch the legs after a flight and a day of work. Thursday, I went to work with Corey at Animal Kingdom around 6:15am so I waited for the Rain Forest Café to open for breakfast and I ate with my friend Chase Zibilich. OMG, we had a blast. Chase & I went all over Animal Kingdom to the Dinosaur ride, the Primeval Whirl, Expedition Everest, and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Corey works the Expedition Everest roller coaster. It is the roller coaster in Animal Kingdom, it goes max speed of 50mph. Thursday night Corey, Joe & I went to the Johnny Chisholm presents One Mighty Weekend Kickoff Party called Ignite @ the House of Blues 9pm-2am with DJ’s Roland Belmares & Wayne G along with the One Mighty Weekend Party Boys Seth Fornea & Jared Bradford hosting all weekend. We ran into Emerald City's Ted & Lauren Mitchell at the front door along with Johnny & Cy. Talk about a good time with some old friends on stage. It was filled w/great music & sexy guys. Of course we had to have a few Fireball whiskey shots with our bartender Scott. Then we finished the night out at The Parliament House. I love going to the Parliament House it’s always fun in that club. It was wild & crazy. Big screen TV over the pool with sexy guys everywhere. It was a big ole outside/ inside party. It was DJ’s Dido & Brianna. Friday we started at One Mighty Weekend kickoff of the Reunion Pool Party’s 12pm-6pm @ Buena Vista Palace with the sounds of DJ Shane Stiel. The pools were packed, the liquor was flowing. They had stages set up with go-go dancers. There were a few grills’ set up with hamburgers, hot dogs, & grilled chicken sandwiches. Of course they also had fruit cups & granola bars. Always a healthy option available. The hotel balcony parties were popping. There was even a jockstrap party in room 4516. Then that night around 6:30 pm VIP passes fell on my lap to go to the party Riptide at Disney Worlds Typhoon Lagoon Waterpark covering 52 acres. I thought it was so cool to have a circuit party in the middle of a Disney World water park. Most of the rides were open. The DJs music went thru all the park speakers. The VIP passes got us open bar & free towels all night!!
Anything free you get excited. Lol. Corey, Joe & I went on water slides, the lazy river, wave pool & of course danced the night away to DJ’s/ Producer’s Twisted DEE & Bret Henrichsen 7pm-2am. Saturday is like THE gay day to go anywhere. Disney World is like the red dress run. Everyone is wearing red walking around the parks. The Disney bars in the park become gay bars instantly. Just follow the red shirts. They always have tons of parades & street parties. Well on this particular day at Disney World we got to dance in the street party parade with all the characters. It was so much fun laughing & dancing, talk about a good time. We ran into Mark Santelli, Heice Lott & Jason Burgdorf while I was dancing in the parade. The Disney Parks had rainbow ice cream, rainbow cookies, rainbow muffins, & rainbow rice crispy treats just to name a few. They even have rainbow pins such as rainbow Mickey Mouse head & rainbow Tinkerbelle pins. You just had to find it & ask around. The Disney workers that are gay wear the Mickey pin while working in the parks during Gay Days. The Mickey Mouse rainbow pin is the most popular & most seen around the Disney parks all weekend. Then Sunday we went to Epcot Center to finish out the weekend. All weekend we walked thru the parks, rode all rides we could. I had to try most of the ice cream bars. I had the Mickey Mouse ice cream sandwich, the frozen chocolate covered banana, the frozen orange juice bar & the nestle crunch ice cream bar. Drink lots of water people it’s so hot in the parks. In the day time you hit Disney World, in the evening you hit the pool parties, at night you go to the circuit parties. Arabian Night’s party presented by Johnny Chisholm was epic for me. I went Saturday night with my friend Joe and saw Rosabel which makes DJ Abel & Ralph Rosario. We stayed till around 6am. Sunday the 3 of us took a nap and woke up at 3am to go see DJ Joe Gauthreaux from 4am-8am. The One Mighty Weekend parties at Arabian Nights were super packed. The biggest club parties I have ever been to!! Talk about insane. A room full of pretty men with their shirts off wearing fun [continued on 38]

PRIDE “Hey Mary what’s the buzz?”So, why would anyone want to risk the heat, thunderstorms, and sweat to show up at PRIDE? For starters it's New Orleans and it is celebration! Next I imagine that several of our favorite watering holes will be offering more than the usual libations. Next, there is family day! Every day should be family day – oh my what a day to celebrate the truth and love of families. I also know that several faith based groups, Touro Synagogue, MCC, St. Anna’s and others have been invited to attend and indeed to stand tall in solidarity. So what might the good “religious folks expect?” In the past response to religious support has been varied. It has run the gamut from warm welcoming hospitality to nay saying boos and calling out the “hypocrites.” But show up they/we do. For those that proclaim the meanness, hurtfulness, and harm of “organized religion” I say this. Quite simply,
fierce ...from 37 outfits. The light show was incredible, unlike any I've seen before. It doesn’t matter if I see Joe G at a club venue atmosphere like Oz or at a warehouse club party like Arabian Nights he always blows the roof off & keeps me dancing for hours. To end out the last day, the party ended at 8am so we headed to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort for a fabulous breakfast buffet with a mimosa. I love me a good breakfast buffet or brunch any day honey. I had so much fun this weekend covering Disney Gay Days. Talk about a major mind opener for me. It was just such an amazing experience for me all the way around. I met so many new friends from all around the world. I can’t wait to go & cover more big events like this one. I learned so much about myself & my new journey on this trip. Talk about a growing up experience for me. Thank you so much Ambush Magazine & Johnny Chisholm for this incredible opportunity & experience. Thank you to all my readers that keep reading my articles. Y'all give me life & a reason to want to keep writing. I enjoy hearing people tell me it's a nice article. Come see me at Oz bartending Friday & Saturday 1pm-9pm or waiting tables at Moon Wok Tuesday & Thursday 11am-2:30pm & 5pm-8:30pm or at GrandPre’s on Wednesday hosting Drunkin' Karaoke 8pm-12am. Till next time folks. See ya on my next adventure!!
we are sorry and humbly ask for your forgiveness. We got it wrong and not only did we get it wrong we perpetuated that wrong and harshly and open acted upon that wrong. Brothers and sisters forgive us please. I have been in recovery for the better part of 28 years. In that time, for the better part, successfully – but not always – not 100%. But living the life of a recovering alcoholic, and any number of other compulsions, I have been blessed to learn a few things. One of the building blocks of recovery is the 12 steps. We are told, and I do believe, that if we adhere and continue to live these 12 steps we will get our sanity back and in so doing we will be “joyous, happy, and free.” Quite a promise! Most likely one of the hardest and most daunting of those 12 steps is to “make amends.” To that end you are to seek out those whom you have hurt, to acknowledge that hurt, and to ask forgiveness. It is completely understood that the expectation of receiving that forgiveness should be very limited. So to that end I publicly offer my humblest apology and ask forgiveness: For at one point in my life believing that Jesus was so narrow as to judge rather than forgive. Or, perhaps it was I that would judge and not forgive. For this I ask forgiveness. For believing that God’s great design and God’s bountiful creativity could be so limited as to pair only a man with a woman. For my belief, at one time, that love was limited in some way by biology. For this I ask forgiveness. For walking away from a friendship in 6th grade with a boy who was odd because I was too concerned about what others thought. I could not imagine that diversity was rich and for my blindness I ask forgiveness. These are only some of the amends that I, as a priest and a damaged person, am willing to publicly acknowledge - gosh knows there are more. But I do so in the hope that we all may make amends. Because in making amends we begin to live into the reality of justice coupled with love. For surely where justice and love meet that is where we find God. I hope that at some point the LGBT community can or will forgive those churches that of old were hateful and rejecting. That the LGBT community in its wisdom and in its infant quest for acceptance will consider accepting those churches, temples, and synagogues that now offer hope, truth and acceptance of the rich tapestry that is
news NOLA Artist David Harouni to Receive 2014 Humanitas Award Celebrated French Quarter artist David Harouni will receive the NO/AIDS Task Force’s 2014 Humanitas Award on Thursday, June 19 at 6pm at the First Unitarian Universalist Church (FUUC), 2903 Jefferson Avenue. The award will be given at the Task Force’s annual Patron Party which will highlight the newly refurbished Food For Friends’ commercial kitchen located within the church’s facilities. Harouni is known worldwide for his art, especially his iconic images – male faces “all in solitude”, often with a golden crown. His commitment to NO/ AIDS Task Force as well as other nonprofit organizations throughout the city by donating to charitable auctions including Art Against AIDS, has helped to raise tens of thousands of dollars to help those affected by HIV and AIDS in our community. Harouni was born in Iran and has lived in many places. His first move from Iran to Israel was as a child, with many other moves to follow. Each move meant starting anew – new country, new home, new friends – only to do it all over again in a short time. He paints in broad confident strokes, applying a layer of paint, scrubbing it off, applying another layer, scrubbing it off, creating then erasing, only to start over again. The result is a canvas with history and depth, very much like the artist. God’s good creation. For centuries we have treated you badly but now, by the grace of the spirit many of us see the truth. The truth is that our faiths will now proclaim that all are invited and none are shunned. I am the first to admit that there is a long way to go and that many faith traditions still stand on the wrong side of this quest for truth, justice, and holiness. Yet, today there is a fresh air a new breeze blowing and that wind of change says all of the faith for all of the people. So it is with PRIDE that MCC, St. Anna’s, Touro, and several other churches and denominations march alongside of our brothers and sisters. We can no longer, as churches, hide in the shadows of tradition and obscure perversions of the truth of our faiths. We must bring to light true faith and true religion and that religion says “All are welcomed none are shunned.” Tolerate us if you will, forgive us if you can. Be proud and stand tall, march, party, rejoice, and be glad in your own skin and the way God has created you and all of us – how rich and good it is. Fear and dread simply can no longer find a place in our work and in our play. PRIDE - a celebration of creation.
“My life, as my canvas, consists of building a life, collecting memories and abandoning them, only to start over; painting and erasing and painting again,: said Harouni. The NO/AIDS Task Force Humanitarian Award is given each year to an individual who has shown unwavering support of the Task Force as a volunteer, sponsor, or supporter of the agency. Recent recipients have included Jerry Purcell (Avita Pharmacy), Rip and Marsha Naquin-Delain (Ambush Magazine), Larry Mercier (Designer and Volunteer). “Harouni, through his art, proven his support of the agency and its mission of providing compassionate care to the men, women, and families affected by HIV and AIDS right here in New Orleans,” said Noel Twilbeck, NO/ AIDS C.E.O. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to show him our appreciation.” The evening will include dinner provided by the Food For Friends kitchen, and entertainment by local jazz trio, “Ysreal.”

Joan Rivers at IP Casino Resort in Biloxi She has the energy of a 30-year-old pole dancer, the sharp wit of a 50-yearold sage, and the potty mouth of an 8-year-old. She’s Joan Rivers and at 81, she’s not slowing down. At all. On May 31, she came onto the stage of the IP Casino Resort’s Studio A like a house on fire and didn’t stop for the next 60 minutes. (And that’s exactly 60 minutes—she’s not doing 1 minute more than what she’s being paid for.) She started off by attacking the blind and their “shitty dogs who get on free in first class.” Why should we give blind people a break? After all, she goes on, “When was the last time you heard a blind person say, ‘You look scripted her performance is. great’?” And fresh. It is the vehemence of her convictions (“I hate Gwyneth Paltrow and vegans. And Nicole Kidman [with her perfect posture, always in a red dress] looks like a fucking ketchup bottle.”) that so endear her to us. If possible, Rivers is even funnier now than two years ago; she’s so sharp, so focused while seeming spontaneous. Paradoxically, an hour with her flies by yet it feels twice as long as it actually is because she packs it so densely with countless great jokes. And while her lustrous verbal humor ceaselessly shines, there’s also the physical comedy she’s honed to perfection. Like
the challenge of blowing out birthday candles after a botox injection. Or slapstickishly climbing on top of the piano, reminiscent of Carol Burnett in her prime. Or laying on her back in her glittery, feather-fringed robe to demonstrate how she would’ve had sex with “that ugly Aristotle Onassis–wouldn’t you do it for $20 million?” Or yelping as she runs back and forth across the stage to portray a mother polar bear and her cub drifting apart on separate ice floes. Not only was that last segment one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, but the underlying pathos added a whole other dimension to it. Paul Varghese, an up-and-coming Indian-American comedian from Dallas, opened for Rivers and, with his edgy humor, was a big improvement over the forgettable guy who opened her last appearance at the IP. He saved his best line for last: “Why is it people only say ‘nonchalantly’? The only time you hear ‘chalantly’ is when it’s a mother calling her kid in the ghetto.” IP Studio A offers comfortably wide rows and, for those who can’t go too long without a cocktail, there are four bars inside the theater. Other headliners coming up there include Vicki Lawrence & Mama: A Two-Woman Show (June 21), Pat Benatar & Neil “Spyder” Giraldo (June 27), and Neil Sedaka (July 12).
Reefer Madness: The Musical at Mid-City Theatre thru June 22 Did you like Evil Dead: The Musical? Or Little Shop of Horrors? Or The Toxic Avenger (yet to have its local premiere)? If so, you may want to take a few hits and head over to MidCity Theatre for Ampersand Productions’ Reefer Madness: The Musical. The show is fun but the hits are necessary to mellow you out before facing a production that leaves a bit to be desired. Dan Studney and Kevin Murphy’s musical takes the 1930s propaganda/ exploitation film and sends it up, well, into the stratosphere. And as you watch a young romance go astray, just in case you don’t get what horrors the evil weed can lead to, a Placard Girl occasionally transverses the stage with signs informing you that “Reefer makes you giggle for no good reason” or “Reefer gets you raped and you won’t care”. And did I mention that Jesus makes an appearance? Yup, it’s that kind of anything-goes show. Director Amanda Francis has good ideas for how to pull off this tongue-incheek cautionary tale—the first act finale involving cars is especially effective—but the whole production needs polishing. Scene changes, in particular, go on too long with stagehands winding up semi-hidden on stage trying to make things right. With “Ampersand Productions”
listed as set, lighting and costume designer, I got the feeling that Francis, who is one of the principals of Ampersand along with Asst. Director/Stage Manager Bobby Cheramie, simply bit off more than she could chew and wasn’t able to give her full attention to rehearsals. On the other hand, a cheeky show like this can get away with being not too slick. With its scaled-down Busby Berkeley-esque orgy number (featuring a variety of body types) and staging that spills out into the audience, this Madness has a slyly seductive quality, as any good reefer should. And whoever actually created the costumes, they’re wildly inventive. But, and it’s a big but, with the exception of such familiar faces as Allee Peck, Elyse McDaniel and the 2010 “ Someone to Watch Out For” Ambie Award-winner Bill Mader, the cast is simply not up to the vocal demands of the show. While I appreciated hearing unmiked voices and the group numbers came off well, individuals projected weakly in the small auditorium with singing abilities that would barely pass muster in the shower. Diction skills were also lacking for some of Murphy’s tongue-twisting lyrics. I’m always happy to see new talent on our stages, and the Reefer team is a talented group of actors, but Francis and Musical Director Doss Burroughs, whose small band well-played Studney’s tangy score, should either rethink their show-selection and/or casting processes, or have spent more rehearsal time bringing their cast up to an acceptable performance level. Vocal abilities aside, the cast is well-suited for their roles. Linsey Shubert’s Mary Lane is as wholesome and smiley as can be; also the show’s choreographer, her dance numbers are fairly basic but get the job done (I wonder how Lindsey Romig, who did Zanna, Don’t, might have approached this). Tony Coco radiates a nice but slightly neurotic air which is just right for his good-boy-turned-bad Jimmy Harper; in Coco’s body, Jimmy becomes probably the buffest and most-tattooed 1930’s high school senior ever. Nick Giardina finds the proper dry style for his fear-mongering Lecturer/ Narrator; the wink is suitably in his voice rather than his eyes. Charles Regnard’s two-faced, three-piece suited pimp/dealer Jack Stone gets what he deserves in a most unusual way. As the Placard Girl, Skylend Roussell’s legs seem to go on for days; with gams like those, it’s not surprising that she’s a great dancer. Will Hoffpauir’s glittery Jesus seems wellfed (and well-endowed) and adds a wonderfully wacked-out presence to his scenes. [continued on 42]

Art in New York If you happen to visit New York this summer, there are lots of museums you can visit—the Metropolitan, the Modern, the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Frick, the Morgan, etc., etc.—all worthy choices. But do not miss the Neue Galerie at Fifth Avenue and 86th Street and its unforgettable exhibit Degenerate Art: The Attack on Modern Art in Nazi Germany, 1937 which has been extended until September 1. The term “degenerate” was adopted by the National Socialist regime as part of its campaign against modern art. Many works branded as such by the Nazis were seized from museums and private collections. Following the showing of these works in a three-year traveling exhibition that crisscrossed Germany and Austria, most were sold, lost, or presumed destroyed. Here then is a unique opportunity to see these survivors by such vital artists as Max Beckmann, George Grosz, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Oskar Kokoschka and others. The Neue Galerie puts these works in elucidating context by contrasting them, at the beginning of the exhibition, with the bland works the Nazis found acceptable. There are photographs and short movies taken during the 1930s that show the original Degenerate Art

Wall tags even include the works’ exact placement in the original exhibit. We’re fortunate to have the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. A show of this significance, however, is unlikely ever to come here. If you’re a historian, an art-buff, or simply a sentient human being, if you have the opportunity to visit the Neue Galerie before Degenerate Art closes, take full advantage and do so. You won’t regret it.

Cocktails, Birthday, Entertainment ~ Mobile, Alabama ~ Photos by Miss Cie & John
One wishes the rest of the cast had as strong a voice as Peck does; as the conflicted hostess of the Reefer Den, Peck wants to break away from Jack but can’t live without the “stuff” he provides her. McDaniel’s hooker with a heart of tin is the opposite of her mousy turn in Zanna, Don’t; with her frowzy hair and boob falling out of her dress she’s the visual incarnation of her messy views on child-rearing. At the risk of becoming typecast for cretinous types, Mader is hysterical both as one who’s completely succumbed to cannabis’ power and as an abandoned baby, his bug-eyes eliciting both laughs and pity. Reefer Madness is a leap forward for Ampersand whose Suburbia two years ago underwhelmed me. Let’s hope they and the entire youthful cast of Reefer will continue to hone their craft. In the meantime, a few drags or drinks might be just enough to enable you to enjoy the Madness at Mid-City Theatre.

Bear-ly Dressed This article does not just have to do with fashion. This article is about style, lifestyle and how a majority of the time your lifestyle will dictate what you wear and how you wear it. Keeping true to your own personal style is key. I chose a subject that for one reason or another has bear-ly been tapped into as a subject to write about in the world of fashion. Once again I find myself asking why there is never anything about larger men’s fashions in magazines. To
be honest you see very little about the Bear culture in the gay magazines unless it’s an ad for an event. Really people? Are we so shallow that we can’t see the sexiness of a man who has a little more to offer than the body of some twink porn star exposing himself with no body fat, or the Armani models who stress over eating one pea a day because they might lose the
$25,000 contract? Please, bitches. I am here to say I love a hot, sexy bear that is bear-ly dressed. I admit I like a little extra cushion for the pushin’. Oh and yes the ones I have had the pleasure of screwing around with have been great in bed. Dare I put a bear in a photo shoot wearing underwear and leather. Um???????? Hell yes!! I like my steak and potatoes. BAM BAM! So with all that I have said let me introduce you to Jeff. Yes Jeff has a man named Scott (bartends at GrandPre’s) and they are both hot! If you ever catch them out just know you are in for a great time. Jeff is currently filling in at the Golden Lantern as a bartender. He used to work at Cafe Lafitte in Exile and most recently Lucky Pierre’s. Most of the time you will find Jeff sporting a tee shirt or a basic polo shirt and some comfortable shorts (pictured in our photo shoot from the Phoenix Bar). Easy and smart for this New Orleans summer weather. I wanted to show Jeff’s true personal style so I had him pull from his own closet for this shoot.
Also pictured here is Jeff sporting his yummy Southern Decadence look in a leather harness and plaid kilt with leather combat boots. We also had Jeff jump up on the pool table at the Phoenix and pose with his close friend the Polar bear in his tiger print underwear. And yes, we had to go upstairs and do a sling shot because, come on. We were at the Phoenix/Eagle! Mentioning sexy bears, Jeff has a new bear venture, “BEARLESQUE”. This wonderful all male burlesque troop filled with nothing but sexy bears is set to debut their show at the Phoenix on July 26th of this year. So good! I for one am looking forward to it. So let’s see. Hopefully I opened your eyes to the fact that hot and stylish men come in all shapes and sizes. As I have shown you in Jeff’s photos, bear-ly dressed larger men can be as sexy as hell and have good style. As far
as Jeff goes I give him two thumbs up for always looking good no matter how little he is wearing. Two thumbs up for his drive and ambition. Two thumbs up for starting "Bearlesque" at the Phoenix on July 26th. You go Jeff! Let me give a shout out to the Phoenix Bar for letting me use the location for my article shoot and the great staff for helping us out! Also a huge thank you to Jeff for letting me write about him and Chet Overall for photographing Jeff for this article. Until next issue. Keep it real. PEACE, LOVE, and HAPPINESS.
