COMICS & HOROSCOPES

HOROSCOPES Messages from the Oracle in New Orleans Dan Beck, #1 Astrologer in New Orleans dan@innermakeup.net Where were you the last week of April? That is the question being asked of you this summer solstice, the longest day of the year. This inquiry is triggered by a concurring solar eclipse and celestially activates that point in the sky. In astrology, as in life, we can look back to points in space and time, and reevaluate them to see what was going on, for better or worse. Whatever was going on the last week of April, this summer solstice offers you a new start, as a solar eclipse is a new moon, and a new moon is a new start. Solstice points are embodied in various myths across different cultures. The story that comes to mind that expresses the summer solstice is the Norse legend of Baldr, Frigga, and Loki. Frigga, the mother of Baldr, learned of a prophecy that her son would die. In order to combat this, she required everything, from rocks to weapons, to pledge never to hurt Baldr. However, the trickster Loki found a way to use Baldr’s brother, Hodr, to throw a mistletoe, which Frigga had ignored, thinking a mistletoe not a threat to Baldr. It does seem like a reasonable supposition, that a mistletoe couldn’t kill someone. This myth symbolizes the change of the seasons and the “destruction” of

perfection, or the lack of change, chaos, and seasons. Clearly, we are moving through such a time. But many of us resist change, instead attempting, like Frigga, to try and make things “perfect”. We never reach absolute zero, the physical definition of no movement, which Frigga was materialistically trying to achieve. Astrologically, this solstice point and eclipse is sensitive and was also active, as I said, during the last week of April. So think back to where you were at that time. What was the change you couldn’t avoid? Even though that change caused some chaos, realize that the changing of the seasons is the law of earth and that true beauty, even in tragedy, is in the imperfection of change.

ARIES

March 21 - April 19 Reviewing matters on the home front is of paramount importance. Whatever was going on at the end of April comes back on the summer solstice. If you accept this change, you can give yourself a new start. If not, your vision of a perfect home space will have you realizing perfection is the

enemy of good.

TAURUS

April 20 - May 20 Since the end of March, your career has been upended, but you feel you have been given a glimpse into a future where you are recognized as a true visionary in your chosen profession. These insights need to be adjusted with those around you, namely your neighbors. Even if you stand to rise in your career, make sure to say “Hi” to your neighbors every once and awhile.

GEMINI

Focus on your emotional interior world and your self-expression will be all the more powerful.

VIRGO
