July 2018 AmCham is an independent business association operating in Armenia since 2000. AmCham represents the interests of more than 125 member companies from almost all sectors of the economy. AmCham’s goal is to enhance US-Armenia business relations and improve business and investment climate in the country. FOOTBALL MATCH STREAMING AT ARMENIA MARRIOTT HOTEL YEREVAN Armenia Marriott Hotel Yerevan continues to organize jointevents with AmCham. On July 6, 2018, in the scope of those series, AmCham Members enjoyed watching quarter finals of the football matches at the poolside of the Marriott Hotel. Moreover, the guests had a chance to make new connections, meet prospective partners, create awareness for their businesses businesses and enjoy the Friday evening with cold drinks by the pool. AmCham appreciates the cooperation with its Gold-Founding member Marriott and is looking forward to work closely in the future.

AMCHAM AND IMF TAX MISSION On July 9, 2018 AmCham Board had a meeting with IMF Tax Policy mission headed by Mr. Martin Grote. The Board members and the Mission team represented by Mr. Grote, Narine Nersesyan and Riel Franzsen, as well as IMF Resident Representative in Armenia Yulia Ustyugova discussed tax issues of concern to investors, challenges of doing business in Armenia, economic developments and policy implementation, including political developments.

AMCHAM BOARD HELD A BREAKFAST MEETING WITH DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER On July 11, 2018 AmCham Board Members had a business breakfast with the Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan. Mr. Hovsepyan, AmCham President, highlighted the Chamber’s vision and mission and provided a feedback on its ongoing projects. He stressed that AmCham’s role, as one of the leading business associations in the country, is to protect the interests of its Member companies and voice their concerns. Mr. Avinyan reconfirmed the intention of the new Government to enhance the cooperation with private sector and stated that they are ready to form working groups to discuss all the issues raised during the meeting. The Board raised priority areas that should be included on the agenda of the working groups. The format and the timelines of the working groups are to be set aaaaaaaaa with the DPM office.


AMCHAM AND UMBA: WORLD WITHOUT WASTE On July 13, 2018 AmCham and UMBA (Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen in Armenia) organized a discussion on best practices and global trends of packaging and waste recycling. Local industry leaders and international organizations gathered to tackle the growing crisis of waste management, share expertise and discuss possible solutions to effectively address the vital issue in Armenia. Opening the event, AmCham Executive Director Vanane Ararktsyan stressed the aaaaaaaaa importance of developing a uniform approach when addressing the issues of waste management, packaging and recycling. “We hope that this meeting will help better understand the current situation on the market and will serve as a basis for an industry discussion platform, where our Members - both local and international will actively participate, together with other representatives of the field”. This timely discussion was initiated by Coca-Cola Hellenic Armenia. Being part of the Group that has set an ambitious industry-first goal to collect and recycle 100% of packaging sent to the markets by 2030, the company daily works to ensure it lessens the environmental impact of its production. “Waste management is a huge global issue which rapidly spins out of proportion. Every year 8 million tons of plastic enter the world's oceans, polluting our communities and destroying natural ecosystems. It is impossible to tackle this issue alone - we all need to join forces and contribute by bringing our effort and expertise. Today the Armenian community has started to actively address the issue of waste recycling, and people expect companies like ours to be leaders and help make a litter-free world possible”, said Christoph Speck, General Manager of Coca-Cola Hellenic Armenia. Apart from the global trends and success stories, results of several pilot projects related to waste separation and recycling, challenges and opportunities present in the Armenian market, as well as implemented internal waste management practices were presented and discussed, allowing participants to form a better view of the current situation and potential prospects. "Waste management, recycling, waste sorting and many other similar issues require systematic solutions through programs developed and implemented consistently by a close cooperation between public and private sectors, as well as NGOs. AMCHAM CONTINUES ITS GM BREAKFAST MEETINGS On July 18, 2018 AmCham held yet another productive business breakfast in the series of its GM Breakfast meetings at Atelier 1797 Penthouse Bar & Grill restaurant of the Alexander, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Yerevan. This time AmCham hosted the executives of its Gold member Sanitek International, IAB International Academy of Business, Coca-Cola Hellenic Armenia, Pepsi Armenia, VISTAA Plus, and the Alexander, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Yerevan.


AMCHAM MEMBERS MEET RA MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE On July 20, 2018 AmCham organized a meeting with RA Minister of Agriculture Mr. Arthur Khacahtryan. The Member companies, representatives of different sectors, raised their issues of concern. Among the topics were sustainable and productive use of land, the issue of drip irrigation and anti-hail nets, local production of seedlings, state subsidies, etc. While responding to the questions of the representatives of the Member Companies, Mr. Khachatryan reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to support local businesses and the farmers and kindly approved the possibility to have meetings with AmCham Members on a regular basis.

AMCHAM WELCOMES MR. CHRISTOPHER ELLIS, THE NEW EX-OFFICIO BOARD MEMBER On July 23, 2018 AmCham Board had a meeting with representatives of U.S. Embassy and Christopher Ellis, the new Economic Officer, who will also serve on AmCham Board as an Ex-Officio Member representing U.S. Embassy. The Board members warmly welcomed Mr. Ellis and had a discussion over business climate in the country, as well as the Chamber's current activities and future plans. AmCham looks forward to continuing to work closely with the U.S. Embassy to the mutual benefit of U.S. and Armenian businesses, and Chamber Members.

BE MY GUEST WITH THE ALEXANDER, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL, YEREVAN On July 27, 2018 AmCham Member companies enjoyed another summer Friday evening in a fancy atmosphere in the scope of “Be my Guest� event series with the Alexander, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Yerevan. The professional team of the Alexander Yerevan delivered a presentation about the history of the hotel and its impressive design, luxurious facilities and unique style. After the presentation, AmCham Members received surprise gifts from the Alexander Yerevan. Later, the guests had a tour at the hotel premises and gathered at the Atelier 1797 Penthouse Bar & Grill and enhanced their network over the delicious reception from the Chef with the magnificent view to the city.
