Most hard cheese bought in Europe comes packaged. Our research shows 89% of people across Europe purchase it this way, with the data revealing Italy is the only country to purchase unpackaged hard cheese in similar proportions to packaged.
In Sweden, the UK, France, and the Netherlands, the respondents purchased packaged hard cheese more often than unpackaged.
Block cheese is the most purchased format, with over 90% buying cheese in blocks. Grated and sliced cheese are purchased by more than 8 in 10 consumers, whereas small chunks are the least popular of these choices.
