delighted with how well received OASIS Lifestyle has become to one and all!

I’m reminded of another

favorite quote, “No thought has much meaning unless it’s written or spoken.” There is so much ‘meaning’ to OASIS Lifestyle, from our in-depth articles, to featured products, to providing the reader with a true ‘oasis’ feeling, which is something apart from a dull routine. As OLM highlights this unique part of Austin, enhanced all along Lake Travis, we salute the new businesses that abound, showing that this part of the economy is alive and well. OASIS Lifestyle is truly a labor of love, including blood, sweat, and tears --- but, what a ride! Thank you to our advertisers and contributors for sharing this ride with Anita and me!

Golf is an exciting opportunity to spend time outdoors and to make lasting social connections. teaching pro at Lost Creek Country Club, Susan Watkins,

agrees. “For me, it’s certainly been a benefit in not only the corporate world but just in everyday networking. It serves as a great tool for getting ahead. This doesn’t just apply for

women playing with women either. eSusan says, “If you’re pretty competitive and you have the social skills and fortitude,

even competitive guys enjoy playing with competitive women. They learn a lot.”

Another reason to consider taking up the game is the

undeniable health benefit associated with playing golf. Not

only does walking an 18-hole course and carrying your clubs help build muscle tone and endurance, but it can be a great calorie burner as well. Research conducted by Neil Wolkodoff

of the Rose Center for Health and Sports Sciences in Denver found that golfers who walk and carry their own bag burn 721 calories, golfers using a pull cart burn 718 calories, golfers

walking with a caddie burn 613 calories and golfers riding in a golf cart burn 411 calories on average. Not only is golf a fun and relaxing sport, but it can help you lose weight too.

Susan says the biggest

for lady golfers

just taking up the game is a lack of knowledge about rules

REAL ESTATE

VILLA Adriatica

By Patrick P. Stafford

Here is an upscale home that is mouth-watering beautiful! You don’t have to be a connoisseur of rich dark chocolate to taste the exquisite beauty of this outstanding gray-stone estate in Villa Montaña! It elicits the immediate impression it deserves of the title, “edifice extraordinaire.” The stone façade is of dolomitic limestone from the Great Lakes’ Niagara Escarpment. Construction of the home consists of an amazing collaboration between the home’s owner and its builder, Will Holstead of Mission Homes. Situated in one of Villa Montaña’s loftiest locations, the views of Lake Travis and the nature preserve are spectacular. Entitled Villa Adriatica, the exterior is encircled by walls of ancient rock. A manicured Mediterranean-inspired flowered courtyard adjoins magnificent sculptures and a three-tier water fountain near

the front entrance. Also integrated in this area is the figure of the mythical god of water and sea himself, Neptune! Sunsets over Lake Travis are relished from five porches and the pool area. Hand-carved travertine columns and balustrades adorn the exterior, as well as the interior. Natural stone tiles abound. Railings, gates and a formidable nine-foot front door host designs hand-crafted from wrought iron. Inside, the hand-textured faux walls and ceilings are graced with old-world ambiance. The furniture and accessories convey a casual atmosphere rich in leathers, understated fabrics, and stained woods. The electronic systems and accoutrements are second to none throughout the home. If this incomparable estate is not a delicious treat, chocolate might soon become an endangered species!

FOUR POINTS DERMATOLOGY: TELLING IT LIKE IT IS! By Patrick P. Stafford

“It is important to remember that excess chronic sun exposure can accelerate skin aging and skin cancers.” With springtime definitely in the air and sunny summer drawing near, it is time to show some skin and prepare to bare. The bright, sunny months should be of particular interest to Austin women who are athletic-minded and love the great outdoors. Be your game golf, biking, swimming, or jogging Austin’s beautiful neighborhoods, women of delicate complexion should take special note. While you begin trading in your snazzy sweaters for shapely shorts, sleeveless shirts, and scanty swimwear, don’t forget to prepare and protect your skin from the sun’s glaring rays. However, according to Dr. Roopal Bhatt, who heads Four Points Dermatology in Austin, the highest risk groups for sun damage are often babies, and those who are fair skinned with red or blonde hair and light-colored eyes, and people with a family history of skin cancer (or certain rare genetic disorders). “But everyone is at risk, especially during the most sunny weeks and months of the years,” she said. “I tell patients that any ‘tan’ and not just sunburn, means sun damage.” Roopal Bhatt, MD, is a board-certified Dermatologist. She opened Four Points Dermatology to provide comprehensive dermatologic care and treatment to Austin residents. Due to her years of experience in New York and now Austin, she is familiar with every skin type and age group. Dr. Bhatt is an educator and doesn’t shy from telling it like it is: “Over time, usually during our fourth to sixth decade of life, our skin starts losing the ability to repair itself, and it manifests as skin discoloration with red and brown spots, poorer skin tone and

texture, wrinkles, and most importantly skin cancers,” she advised. The goal of her practice is to provide the most comprehensive, individualized, and positive dermatologic care for patients of all ages, ethnicities, and skin types. “Prevention is always worth a pound of cure. First avoidance of strong summer sun exposure during 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. especially is recommended. Then sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!” she said. “It is important to remember that excess chronic sun exposure can accelerate skin aging and skin cancers.” Her special advice to women and others who love enjoying the great outdoors is clear and straightforward: “It is never too late to protect your skin. You can still pursue outdoor activities but continue to protect skin by using sunscreen and UV protective clothing/hats. And make sure you protect the delicate skin of children and elderly individuals, and also pets when they accompany you outdoors.” Dr. Bhatt performs thorough cosmetic and dermatologic consultations for new patients. Minutes from downtown Austin, Four Points Dermatology caters its care towards the individual, in a state-of-the-art but ecofriendly and comfortable environment.
