These 20 Waterparks In Texas Are Going To Make Your Summer Awesome With temperatures topping the 100s across Texas, we’re all looking or a bit of relief from the heat. The best option is always to take a dip, and there’s no better way to mix it with some good family fun than going to a waterpark. You don’t have to leave the Lone Star state; you don’t have to go that far to find a great place to cool off. We’ve made it easy for you—grab your floaties and sunscreen; we’ll see you there.

Schlitterbahn South Padre Island With 25 resort waterpark attractions right on the beautiful Gulf Coast, this is a great summer destination for the whole family.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor After riding all the rollercoasters you can handle, come on over to the waterpark and cool off with 25 water rides, certain to keep your adrenaline pumping.

Wet’n Wild Splashtown (Spring) Whether you’re a child or adult, there’s something for everyone here. If you’re a thrill-seeker, take a plunge on the Texas Freefall or the Brain Drain. They won’t disappoint adrenaline hunters.

Wet’n Wild Waterworld (Anthony) Right on the border of New Mexico and Texas, you’ll find this welcoming oasis in the middle of the desert. Take a dive in— we promise, it’s not a mirage.

White Water Bay Six Flags Fiesta Texas With tons of water slides and lagoons, you’ll find something for every age group in your party. There’s even a giant Texasshaped wave pool, and the world’s steepest waterslide: the Bahama Blaster.

NRH20 Family Waterpark (North Richland Hills) Fancy yourself a daredevil? This waterpark has some of the most thrilling rides around, including the legendary Green Extreme, and The Viper.

Splashway Waterpark (Sheridan) There are always signs for this waterpark on the way to San Antonio; they have some of the most crowd-producing rides. A can’t-miss location this summer.

Lost Lagoon SeaWorld On a hot summer day, Seaworld’s signature Lost Lagoon offers adventure, the perfect place to cool down, and dozens of rides to choose from. If you’re up for a jaw-dropping thrill, consider the Sky Tubin’ ride, which sits at 12 feet wide, 500 feet long, and hosts slippery slopes, rapids, turns and twists. The park is packed with child-friendly rides and attractions, such as the Lil’ Gator Lagoon. Between the prime location and excellent rides, you get an added bonus: Lost Lagoon makes for a great summer escape.

9

Splashtown Water Park (Spring) Having a convenient location is just one of the many reasons this waterpark is a favorite with the Katy crowd. Close to home, the park features out-of-this-world attractions, like the popular Tornado water ride, where riders spiral down a 132 foot long tunnel, right before splashing down a giant, open-ended funnel. The Stingray Racer—new as of this summer—promises thrills galore, with six high-speed slides that each top five stories in height. Race your friends for bragging rights.

Hurricane Harbor Six Flags Sprawled across 47 acres, Hurricane Harbor is the largest waterpark in north Texas. It offers exciting rides for all ages. One of the more popular rides is the Bubba Tub, a four-passenger innertube that starts atop a 70’ tall tower, bringing you down a 300 foot triple dip course. For a real thrill, give the Black Hole a try. Hurricane Harbor is home to the Mega Wedgie, four stories high, and 83 feet wide. Passengers fly down one wing and up another, traveling at speeds up to 23 MPH.

Wet’n Wild Waterworld (El Paso) Fun for the whole family. The newest ride, the Alien Vortex, comes complete with G-force thrills. Most popular ride is The Old Woman and the Show; it’s perfect for the little ones, and serves as a real waterpark landmark. This pint-sized water slide actually comes out of a shoe. The Amazon waterslide is the longest waterslide to date. It cascades down 50 feet through water curtains, dark twists, and turns to land next to the Wild Island Wave Pool. You can even grill and barbeque under nearby shaded trees, all while the kids have fun splashing around.

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels Voted the “Best Waterpark in the World” year after year. Undeniably the best waterpark in all of Texas. It boasts over three miles of both lazy, calm, and rushing rivers full of rapids. 17 speed slides, plenty of pools and beaches for the family. My favorite, hands down.

Typhoon Texas. Well…it’s back with a new name and under new management. Try out Typhoon Texas for your next summertime cooldown. The waterpark is fun for all ages with its wide variety of attractions from its giant, winding water slides to the relaxing Lazy-T River. The waterpark is a great location and is getting rave reviews.

r e e r a C r u o Y h c n u a L e d a r T d e l l i k S A g n i n by Lear Many students wonder if college is worth it. To put is simply, it depends‌ on a lot of different factors. The Round Rock Chamber has launched an image campaign, focused on educating young people about career options in skilled trades. These are defined as careers that require some certification beyond high school, but do not require a four-year college degree.

Making a good choice from the start can lead to a better career, higher wages, and better personal satisfaction. Nobody wants to get stuck in a career that they don’t honestly enjoy. Making a bad choice can lead to high amounts of college tuition-related debt, and difficulty landing a well-paying job. The Launch My Career Texas interactive websites identifies well-paying jobs and the best programs to prepare students for them, compares projected earnings to the financial investment needed, and analyzes the earning potential. It also helps students to understand the personal and professional satisfaction that accompanies different careers and courses of study.

Have you considered a career in skilled trades? You may be asking, what is a skilled trade, anyway? It is defined as an in-demand job that requires some certification beyond high school, but doesn’t require a college level education. The Texas Workforce Commission reported that, in its Texas Growth Occupations 2017 Annual Report, designed for key occupants, “local supply has at times struggled to keep up with demand.” They go on within the report to declare that the state’s construction industry is projected to grow by nearly twenty-eight percent between 2014 and 2014 alone. More specifically, they explain that “the highest demand will be for specialty trade workers to fill positions such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.” If you’re asking yourself, what are the benefits of a career in skilled trades? Well, the answers are better than you’d imagine. • Minimal to No Debt • Youth is an Asset; Not A Liability • Hands-on Learning • Career Longevity • Advancement Opportunities • Path to Small Business Ownership • Contributions to Society Watch a video to learn all about the benefits of a skilled trade career. Learn more than ever before in this report from the Texas Workforce Commission regarding growth occuptions. A key strategy of the Round Rock Chamber is dedicated to educating community members in regards to the need for better career paths to in-demand jobs. The chamber has produced a multi-year workforce strategy to ensure that there is an ample talent pool, from which local businesses can pull. It is divided into four crucial area: replenishing skilled trades; implementing accelerated learning opportunities; increasing direct-to-college enrollment; supporting ancillary service capabilities. The Heat Is On:

5 Sizzling Reasons to Buy a Home During Housing’s Hottest Season The days are getting longer. Ice cream truck jingles echo up and down the block. But the surest sign that summer is here? It just might be those “For Sale” signs popping up like dandelions in your neighborhood. Yep, we’re smack dab in the middle of the most popular time of the year to buy and sell a home. If you’re thinking of starting your home search, your first instinct as a savvy shopper might be to stay away and wait for the weather—and the market—to cool down. Why battle the crowds and bidding wars if you’re in no rush to move? But there’s no reason to sweat the idea of buying in the summer. In fact, there are some distinct advantages to making your way into the marketplace during housing’s hottest season—as long as you can stand the heat of a little competition.

aren’t 1 Prices necessarily higher “A huge myth about the real estate market is that homes sell for more in the summer and less in the winter. This is simply not true,” says Dippy Chhina of Dippy Real Estate. Let’s be clear: Home prices do usually peak in June–August. And it’s a seller’s market in most areas. But other forces beyond the summer sun play a major role in a home’s asking price, Chhina notes. They include the number of similar homes also for sale in a given area, interest rates, and the job market. “What is true, however, is that there are more homes on the market in summer than in the winter, and there is also a higher number of sales in the summer than the winter,” Chhina says. Which leads us to our next summer-buying advantage.

get to know 5 You’ll the lay of the land

You wouldn’t buy a car from a dealer with only two models for sale, so why limit your options when it comes to picking a house? The open-plan kitchen you’ve been yearning for or a home in a stellar school district is much more likely to pop up in a busier marketplace.

Any beleaguered parent can tell you why this factor is crucial. By waiting until summer to make your move, you can minimize disruption to your kids’ lives. Plus, their schedule is clear to bring them along to showings. (Beware, though, not all agents appreciate young kids underfoot.)

“The large inventory offers significantly more opportunities for purchasers to identify specific floor plans, amenities, and locations,” says Sarah Lilly of Five Star Lakeshore Real Estate. Buyers “feel more confident in their search because additional properties hit the market every week.”

“House hunting during the summer break from school means that kids can more readily attend showings— important when offer time is of the essence and parents want each member to approve of the new family home,” says Orlando Regional Realtor Association President Bruce Elliott, of Regal R.E. Professionals.

It’s easier to do a little detective work on your potential home when the weather’s nice and the days are longer. Trees and flowers are in full bloom, so you’ll get a better idea of your prospective new yard. You can step out on that back porch and envision what it will really, truly be like to live there and host your long-anticipated Margarita Mondays. Plus, everyone’s more active, so you’ll get a better feel for the community.

In some less competitive markets, knowing that there are plenty of homes for sale can give you more leverage for price negotiation, and peace of mind knowing that if you have to walk to away, another home will be just around the corner.

And if the sellers have kids, they might also be trying to cement a sale in time for the new school year—and will likely be more motivated toward the end of the season. “Sellers who find their properties still on the market as summer draws to a close and the ranks of buyers thin out may be more open to price negotiation,” Elliott says. “In addition, those buyers who were unable to secure a home after months of looking and making offers may become fatigued and drop out of the hunt.”

Buying and selling at the same time could be easier

If you need to sell your current home before you can buy another, you’ll likely have an easier time with the balancing act during the summer. Rather than getting trapped with two mortgages, you could have a more seamless transition in a busier market. “If the client needs to sell a home before buying, the home will be more likely to sell, and potentially at a good price, allowing the client to purchase their new home sooner,” says Joe Lopez of Connect Realty. But remember, these transactions take time, so if you’re planning on pulling off a double act, get ready as soon as possible so you can capture as much of that golden season as you can.

LE FOR SA

“Summer brings people out of their homes, so while you are home shopping with your agent, you will get the chance to take the pulse of the neighborhood and see your potential neighbors,” says Kyle Springer of South Central Homes. “Families can often get a feel for the neighborhood’s kid population during the day in the summer,” Elliott says. “Here in Orlando, where daytime temperatures reach the high 90s and so many homes have pools, buyers listen for sounds of shouting and splashing.” But beware! Sometimes the romance of summer can distract you from some red flags. “It is fine to stop and smell the roses, but also pay attention to what lurks behind them,” says Jerry Grodesky of Farm and Lake Houses Real Estate. For example: the eyesore of a junk pile in your neighbor’s yard. Or the giant cellphone tower you didn’t see through those beautifully full trees—that now you can’t unsee. And make sure that foliage isn’t blocking any potential problems with the home, such as foundation issues or peeling roof tiles. You should also use this opportunity to test how the property holds up in warm weather. See how well the air conditioning works when it’s pushing 100 degrees outside, and open all the windows to see if any stick or simply won’t open. Of course, your home inspector will check these things, but it never hurts to get a jump-start. Courtesy realtor.com
