PERSONAL LIFE

Le corbusier was married with Yvonne Gallis, a dressmaker and fashion model. Unfortunately she died in 1957.

Forays Into Urbanism However with the excessive increase of the French population and the Parisian slums, Le Corbusier sought effective ways to house large numbers of people in response to the crisis in urban housing forms.

For him, the solution to these problems was the creation of large housing developments or apartment blocks, and with the time it was not only that, but it came to the study of entire cities. He believed that his new modern architectural forms would provide an organizational solution that would raise the quality of life for the lower classes.

In 1922 he presented his scheme for a "Contemporary City" for three million inhabitants.

Le Corbusier expanded and reformulated his ideas on urbanism, eventually publishing them in La Ville radieuse (The Radiant City) in 1935.

INFLUENCE Since his death, Le Corbusier’s contribution has been hotly contested, as the architecture values and its accompanying aspects with modern architectura vary, both between different schools of thought and among practising architects.

Le Corbusier gave credence and credibility to the automobile and to freeways in urban spaces. The ideas of Le Corbusier were further destruction of traditional urban spaces to build freeways that connected this new urbanism to lowdensity, lowcost (and highly profitable), suburban and rura locales which were free to be developed as middleclass single-family (dormitory) housing. Le Corbusier was revered in his lifetime, and after death, bye a generation of followers. Later, he was criticized for his own followers in some essays.
