LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO 2016
AMELIA GRACE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT amelia.grace8@gmail.com
As a landscape architect I have an extensive range of project experience from which I have gained working for multidisciplinary design firms and local authorities in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. My knowledge of different site requirements is comprehensive and I have been involved with projects, both large and small that have had many different site conditions. I have taken a leading design and management role on many of these projects and have effectively and efficiently coordinated inputs from civil, structural and traffic engineers, planners, architects, ecologists, arborists and landscape contractors to achieve a high quality result for the client. Being detailedoriented, it is important to me that nothing is over looked and that every project I am involved with progresses smoothly, on time and to budget. My design experience ranges from conceptual and detailed design to contract documentation, master-planning, landscape assessments and visualisations. I have also provided expert evidence for council hearings on landscape matters. My key strengths lie in my design and presentation skills and I have strong technical talents to reinforce my overall design strengths. I pride myself on my innovative, sensitive design solutions and the attention to detail I apply to every project.

CANNING TOWN RIVERSIDE LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM - LONDON - 2015/2016
The Lea River Park project connects Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the Royal Docks and the River Thames with new continuous public parklands - ‘completing’ the long Lea Valley Park. A focussed series of projects will unlock a connective route for pedestrians and cyclists down and across the valley.
CREATING CONNECTIVITY:
Canning Town Riverside was one of the first projects to be delivered. Work commenced on site in January 2016 and was successfully completed on time and under budget in July 2016. DESIGN BRIEF / STATEMENT: - Adopt an underused area of land between the DLR rail and the A13 overpass, rediscovering an accessible riverside for the Canning Town area. - Once cleared, the large riverside space will be populated with boulders and stools. A brick plinth will become an event space and the steep existing topography will be negotiated by a gentle path to the river’s edge. Grasses and wetland flowers will be established at ground level, whilst the canopies of the existing white willows will be lifted to create good visibility. PROJECT CHALLENGES: - Canning Town is separated from the River Lea by a confluence of transport infrastructure, which forms a physical barrier to movement and divides Canning Town and its population from the River. - Site is overgrown and in poor condition attracting anti-social behaviour and rough sleeping. ROLE: - Concept Design Investigations + Reports + Drawings - Developed Design + Technical Drawings - Site Management: Inspection of landscape works on site during construction and upon completion - Contract and Budget Management

The A13 Canning Town junction project is a fundamental part of the regeneration project for the Canning Town area. This area is destined to become the focus of an enlarged town centre, and the redesign will make it possible for pedestrians to walk unimpeded by traffic from the bus and train stations and throughout the town centre and local market space.

CROSS RAIL
MANOR PARK STATION UPGRADE
MANOR PARK STATION
LONDON BOROUGH OF NEWHAM - LONDON - 2015/2016
Crossrail is a new cross-London rail service that will connect East to West via a new tunnel under central London. London borough of Newham has four stations on the north branch of crossrail that require upgrading as part of the masterplan. Manor Park is the first of four stations to be upgraded and is characterised by its proximity to the park itself on one side and the bustling life of Romford Road on the other. The surrounding urban environment is in a poor state of repair, with uneven surfaces, tired street furniture and a lack of a coherent treatment. The road outside the station is excessively wide and the retail outlets in the area are generally of a low quality. There is scope to improve connections to and from the station, introduce some trees and planting to soften what is currently a very hard urban setting and potential to extend the improvements up to the Romford Road junction. DESIGN STATEMENT: The design will enhance the physical quality and appearance of the station forecourt and approach with new, robust materials that create a consistent pedestrian route between the stations and key destinations in the area. The interchange will be improved with wider footways at the bus stops and additional bus standing space, cycle parking closer to the station entrance and a cycle hub on a vacant plot of land opposite the station. ROLE: - Lead landscape architect: consultation + meetings - Concept design investigations + design explorations - Customised furniture exploration + detailed design - Artists impressions/visualisation + presentations - Developed design + technical drawings - Site management: Inspection of landscape works on site during construction and upon completion

FOOTING DETAIL:
Six people from Newham received the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest military decoration possible, during World War 1. Newham honoured each of them by laying a special stone at the Cenotaph around the 100th anniversary of the act of bravery they received the award for. It was important the stones were part of the community and sited in a position where they will be visible to members of the public to enable more people to access and learn about the community’s shared history.
