Gerrilyn Sylvester, administrator for Coastal Vision Center, moved to Amelia Island 25 years ago. Her husband taught school on the island, and both of their children graduated here. She feels a strong connection to the community and loves the feeling that everyone looks out for each other. No wonder she loves her job at Coastal Vision Center.

“Many times in our community, I hear about how hard it is to keep specialists on the island and how nobody wants to fight the traffic to drive to Jacksonville. I believe one of Coastal Visions greatest accomplishments is bringing ophthalmology to Amelia Island full-time. The doctors are so genuine and caring. The fact that we serve over five generations of family members from the island, as well as snowbirds and transplants who visit and never want to leave, is proof of how sincere they are,” says Gerri.

Coastal Vision Center brings over 70 years of ophthalmology and optometry experience to Amelia Island. Dr. J. Russell Stackhouse, owner and premier cataract surgeon, is proud to say that from the newest laser technology to routine eye exams and hundreds of frames onsite to choose from, they have everything you need to keep your eyes healthy without going over the bridge. Recent additions to their team include Dr. Capritta Roberts, a corneal specialist, as well as Ocular Plastic Surgeon Dr. Amy Kulak.

Coastal Vision Center is located at 6 South 14th Street. For an appointment, call (904) 261-5741 or visit their website at www.coastalvisioncenter.com.

Windward Sailing

Cindy & Tony Jones

In August 2005, Cindy Jones encouraged her husband to turn his dream of owning a sailing business into reality. Tony Jones left a 28-year career in retail, and he and Cindy purchased Windward Sailing. Tony and Cindy are Florida natives and love the amazing waterways that Amelia Island and Cumberland Island have to offer. They had been sailing for many years, so their new venture was an easy transition. For Tony and Cindy, it is truly a blessing to be able to do what you love for a living.

Windward Sailing has plenty to offer for both locals and visitors to the island. They have a 34-foot sailboat, a 36-foot sailboat, and a 37-foot catamaran, which go out daily for private fun sails lasting from two to eight hours. These sails are ideal for a romantic sunset sail, family outings, proposals, bachelorette and bachelor parties, weddings, memorial services, birthdays, girls-night-out groups, and eco-tours (sailing is the original green-machine) in Cumberland Sound, the Atlantic Ocean, and near St. Mary’s, Georgia. All the boats are equipped with cabins and restrooms. Guests are welcomed to bring drinks and refreshments. The catamaran also has a trampoline on the front, which allows one to lay suspended over the water and let all the cares of the world dissipate as you quietly sail over the waves.

Windward is an accredited American Sailing Association Training facility. Visit their website at windwardsailing.com to see everything they have to offer or contact Captain Tony at (904) 327-3265 to schedule your next adventure.
