shlie Rowland, owner of Hudson & Perry, moved as a child to Amelia Island with her family in 1989 because of a military reassignment. After college, Ashlie moved to New York City, but she always knew she’d come back here. When she returned seven years ago, she missed the boutiques from her old West Village neighborhood, so Ashlie decided to bring a bit of the big city to Fernandina Beach. In 2016, she opened Hudson & Perry, named after two cross streets near her West Village apartment, and combined her love for the south with her love for the north. “Hudson & Perry offers unique, vintage-inspired home goods and gifts mixed with a touch of Southern charm. I love its eclectic flair that brings something a little different to the downtown area for tourists and locals alike. And I love meeting customers! People I have met in the shop have become good friends, including some who aren’t local but return every year because they say my shop is a ‘must-do’ on their trip!” says Ashlie. I asked her what she loves most about the island. “Just one thing?! That’s tough, but it would have to be its smalltown charm, how everyone knows everyone here. Knowing that my daughters will be raised like myself and my husband (also a native) in a community that’s safe, friendly, and caring is priceless.” Hudson & Perry is located at 319 Centre Street.
