The sylvan setting of the Plantation Artists’ Guild & Gallery (recently rechristened as PAGG) has always made it a delightful place to stop in and browse. Of late, however, the onset of social distancing and other Covid precautions have kept some visitors at arms length.
Members of the not-for-profi t artist cooperative refused to accept limitations and have risen to the occasion, harnessing technology to bring their art to the screens and devices of visitors. Trish Jones, Karen Bowden, and Cindy Jenkins, three new additions to the PAGG roster, turned a challenge into an opportunity and have been instrumental in launching a new website and social media campaign. Th e site, with links to a social media platform, is a virtual tour of every piece on display in the gallery at any given time. Profi les of the artists accompany the work.
Using the Facebook messenger system, a virtual visitor or prospective buyer can make an appointment for a private in-person showing in order to avoid contact with other patrons. PAGG’s Facebook page currently has more than 1,000 followers. Two other venues on the island feature the artwork

of PAGG members: Isle of Amelia Executive Suites, located at 5422 First Coast Highway and Osprey Village, as well as the Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate offi ce.
Two categories of membership support PAGG’s community of art enthusiasts. One is the “Exhibiting Member” category for those who, after meeting certain criteria, exhibit their art at the gallery. Th ese members also staff the gallery, hold an offi ce, or serve on a committee. Currently, PAGG has 41 Exhibiting Members.
Th e second type of membership is the “Art Lovers Membership,” which is designed for those who choose not to exhibit but want to support the Gallery and Guild by participating in events, presentations, lessons, workshops, and classes. Th ey may also choose to assist by acting as gallery hosts.
PAGG was formed to promote art enrichment, as a showcase for artists and a platform for activities of the Guild, and to sustain an active membership. In August, Sandra Hughes is the featured “Corner Show” artist. For more information, call (904) 432-1750 or visit www.paggart. com and their Facebook page.
