Laurie Smith Moore loves making people feel better. “It can be improving their skin, helping them with a regimen that fits their lifestyle and gives great results, or simply offering a place they can relax and destress,” says Laurie. Born in Seattle, Washington, Laurie moved to Amelia Island in 2011, working at Th e Ritz-Carlton Spa, Amelia Island. Laurie graduated from Clary Sage College in 2007 with a degree in aesthetics, working as an aesthetician in Tulsa, Oklahoma after graduation.
Laurie saw the need for a skincare professional on Amelia Island who could provide eff ective and relaxing treatments at non-resort spa prices. In 2017, L. Moore Aesthetics was created. “I love the small-town feel of the island and the community support for small businesses and people in general. My clients have been so supportive of me and my growth.” Laurie offers a comprehensive yet simple approach to skincare, while making every client feel comfortable. If you have not seen Laurie’s blog, which is available on her business’s website, be sure to take a look.
A busy wife and mother, Laurie still finds time to enjoy life. “I love being a mom to my six-year-old daughter, Frankie. We are in the process of remodeling a commercial building, The Loft at 1815, where L. Moore Aesthetics will relocate to this summer. We’ll be expanding, adding another aesthetician as well as “Emjecting”, a new business operated by a local medical professional offering injectables and medical treatments.” For more information, call (904) 222-6053 or visit www.lmooreaesthetics.com.
Wadsworth’s
Brenda DeMarco came to Amelia Island in 1992 and fell in love with the charm of the island. “After living in New England and not liking the snow, I found a place with my favorite three seasons.” Wadsworth’s, named after Brenda’s dog (may he rest in peace), is a small-town, family-owned business with name-brand island resort wear and accessories in Fernandina Beach.
Founded in 2004, Wadsworth’s was a former high-end menswear boutique called Wadsworth’s Fine Menswear. Brenda and her daughter continued it as a menswear store until 2012. After being asked by many customers to open a women’s store with the same flavor, Brenda decided to add women’s clothing to the mix. From the minute you walk through Wadsworth’s door, you are greeted like an old friend. Brenda shops with her customers in mind and hand-selects pieces just for you. Can’t fi nd what you’re looking for? She’ll special order your size and color, then ship it directly to you.
“I realize I found my calling. I like working with the public every day. Th e relationships I’ve built over the years with my customers and tourists alike has been wonderful. I am so grateful for my customers, not to mention my current staff , who are a huge part of Wadsworth’s success. Th is island has a sense of community I’ve never seen anywhere else, a perfect example of which is the “Foar from Home” team. Everyone here steps up and have all become like family.” Stop in Wadsworth’s today at 204 Centre Street or visit www.wadsworthapparel.com.
