Portfolio contents designer profile The nike customer H&M Shapewear innovation stretchline product development trend design: sports luxe technical investigation work experience
Amelia newman I am a third year student studying BA Contour Fashion at De Montfort University, UK, looking forward to starting a career in the athletic apparel business. My strength lies within my creative flair along with a passion for innovation. I feel that through combining these two key elements something truely exciting and new can be created. I endeavor to keep up to date with new technologies and advancements, understanding that the key is to always look forward. Through fabric research, sampling and creative toiling initial ideas and visions unite. Design development and sketchbook work is organic and comes naturally, with inspiration drawn from travelling, exhibitions and museums, architecture and personal experiences. All creative work is underpinned with a strength and true interest in technical design. These technical abilities have been expanded and strengthened throughout my time at university, and intensified through in-depth technical work. I am currently working on my Final Collection as well as an exploraiton into 3D printing for my Dissertation.
determined, athletic, fun loving, confident, cool, casual
the NIKE customer the customer is at the heart of all design. as a designer it is important that I can relate to the customer and understand her needs, demands, and most importantly, know what she wants even before she knows it herself.
H&M shapewear innovation WINNER
“Elegance in technical solutions combined with seductive design H&M Technical Design Team Technical innovation project set by H&M. The challenge was to create a fashion forward shapewear slip that does not ride up and a knicker with a new way to sculpt the hips. Performance was key to the project as well as extensive research into the shapewear market. H&M Technical Designers who formed the judging panel
Inspired by the bold structure of St Pancras Internation Station. The architectural structure drives the inpirtation for shapewear Autumn/Winter 2014/15. Focusing on function and technical excellence to in order to create innovative shapewear.
Stretchline product development RUNNER UP
Project set by Stretchline to create an innovative use of their new “No Wire Polymer’. My concept was a molded cup that is fully adaptable to the wearer, thus improving the fit of molded cups. Currently there is nothing on the market that offers such a tailor made fit.
The polymer is applied in a gauze to a padded memory foam liner. This creates an inner layer that is fully malleable with the ability to mold to the wearers shape. The inner layer is then adhered to a PU molded foam outer along the edges only, this allows movement for the inner layer to mold to the wearer as well as maintaining a uniformed, rounded shape.
technical investigation
Technical investigation into 6 commercial bras. Garments were thoroughly analyzed and patterns were created from the measurement specifications. The project resulted in 6 replica commercial bras along with extensive accompanying technical file, thus furthering my technical abilities and understanding dramatically.
