AM N ADVENT MESSAGE TO EVERY NATION
Information Brochure
// Who we are? AMEN is a youth-led, Bible-based and Christcentred movement supported by the Youth Department of the Cape Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our mission is to equip young people to be of service for Christ in all walks of life, with the aim of taking the Advent message to the entire world in this generation.
// mission statement At the very heart of the organisation is its aim to uplift the distinguishing message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, to promote excellence in all aspects of life be it academic, professional or spiritual; to hold close the call to deep-seated discipleship, to emphasise a life of missionary service and to be supportive and respectful of denominational leadership, while remaining a youth-led movement. In our quest to uplift the distinctive messages of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, AMEN aims to promote amongst its participants:
•
A desire for lost souls created by private experience in the saving love of Jesus and a want for His impending return;
•
A respect for Scripture as the substance and trial for all teachings and practices;
•
A refinement of Godly relationships retaining purity and encouraging responsibility;
•
Admiration and appreciation for the Spirit of Prophecy as an authoritative source of directing, comfort and warning;
•
A passion and eagerness for service through attending to the needy, serving the community and caring for the environment;
•
Pursuing Biblical holiness through daily prayers and devotional experiences with Jesus and dedication to following His Word;
•
•
A radical worship experience that is characterised by belief, reverence and appropriateness;
Dedication to the Seventh-day Adventist Church as God’s remnant church by supporting and maintaining its principles, organisation and leadership and
•
An attitude of humility and amity as we express the Biblical teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In response to this cause, we run a Spiritual Training Programme from January to November each year, where essential Bible truths and practical evangelism skills are imparted. This programme includes seminars essential for Health and Medical Missionary work; including basic hydrotherapy, healthful cooking classes as well as basic treatment of lifestyle diseases.
In December of each year we host our annual Bible Conference. The Bible Conference, organised by Spirit-filled and willing young people of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, serves as a platform for an experience with Jesus Christ and a springboard to hasten the mission of AMEN, the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the very mission of God. One of the main goals of the AMEN Conference is to display the relevance of the Gospel in this post-modern and secular generation.
This is done through inspiring, Bible-based and practical messages, sacred music, outreach endeavours and workshops at the Conference, in an aim to realise that “rightly trained army of youth” who will take the Gospel to all the world. We envisage that the Bible Conference will become more than just an annual event but rather the catalyst to a movement of young people, who will become active members in their local churches and communities and who will allow God to fulfil the very purpose that He has for them.
Built on the words of Jesus, “Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” – (Matthew 28:19- 20 KJV); attendees to the Conference experience radical discipleship, a deeper sense of devotional life and a greater love for God. JUSTIN HENDRICKS PRESIDENT
AMEN has one purpose: to take the Gospel to the entire world. Our desire is to finish the work or to die trying! We believe that this will be accomplished by not just preaching the Word, but by surrendering our lives to God. It is “the Love of Christ [that] compels us.” (2 Corinthians 5:13) Our prayer is that each soul that we come in contact with might be won for the kingdom. It is in the heart of God for young people to be co-labourers in the gospel work. AMEN has been a blessing to my life as it shows that God has a special interest in young people. The Lord has a blessing in store for young people that will be gathering with one heart, one prayer and one mission to be rightly trained so that by our dedicated lives to the gospel work, we might hasten the coming of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. “Christ had finished the work that was given Him to do. He had gathered out those who were to continue His work among men. And He said: ‘I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to Thee. Holy Father, keep through Thine own name those whom Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, as We are. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word; that they all may be one, I in them and Thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved Me.’” – Acts of the Apostles, pg 24
GRANT APPEL
ASSISTANT TO PRESIDENT ‘AMEN’ is an opportunity. An opportunity for any young person who chooses to respond to the great Gospel Commission, to join with like-minded young people to be of service to the Master in fulfilling His prophecy – to see the Gospel reach the entire world in one generation, by the witness of our lives! “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached to all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end shall come.” – Matthew 24:14. God will do it. I want to be a part of it. Let’s be a part of it!
CHIVONNE AFRICA SECRETARY
The AMEN Bible Convocation 2011 and the AMEN ministry as a whole, were answers to prayer. Mrs.White writes this beautiful promise of God: “If we surrender our lives to His service, we cannot be placed in a position for which God has not made provision.” I remember being on our knees asking God for guidance, especially in the weeks before the convocation. In spite of the challenges, we witnessed miracle after miracle. That is what we continue to see, as we submit our plans to God. He opens doors that have previously been shut! I am passionate about mission work and truly grateful for the privilege of working with, and meeting, young people who desire to see Christ come in this generation and who want to play a part in finishing the work.
LEON HENDRICKS FINANCIAL DIRECTOR
AMEN is more than a ministry; it is a calling from God. Its purpose is to equip and inspire young people, to take up what is certainly the noblest duty – the duty of finishing the work of the Gospel in our generation. To see young people from different places, different backgrounds, different colours, yet with the same heart, come together with a common goal, has been a source of great encouragement in my own Christian walk. AMEN is not just part of my life, it is my life. For its heart is mine, its principles are mine and I believe its cause should be not only be mine, but ours! “With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world!” – Education, pg 271
MICHAEL MELATO LOGISTICS DIRECTOR
AMEN is not just a ministry to me, but a family of young people whom God brought from different racial groups to finish the work. I consider AMEN as a lighthouse for God’s existence – when we truly are obedient to Christ, it is possible to live in unity as Christians without recognising the colour of our skin or our historical backgrounds. We are the generation that will break down the barriers and spread the good news for our SOON coming Jesus Christ throughout the world! Will you be there in that number? AMEN.
KURT CAMPHER
COMMUNICATION DIRECTOR AMEN is an idea that has been developed over time, with much thought and prayer. The idea is simple… Every adventist is a missionary and worker for Christ. We all have a part to play in winning souls for the kingdom and young people need to take up this challenge. To do this requires training, motivation and knowledge. Under God’s direction we have put a team together that hopes to help put this all in place. With your help and God’s power WE can all finish the work that has been assigned to the church.
SIBONGILE GUMEDE HEALTH DIRECTOR
My first encounter with AMEN was when these two brothers, who looked like twins, came to our church to preach in divine service. I remember us saying, “They’re so young!” My friends and I then attended one of the AMEN hikes and after a brief chat with one of the team members we were asked to present the next health session for the spiritual training programme and the rest, as they say, is history. Mrs White says in the book Desire of Ages p142 “God could have reached His object in saving sinners without our aid; but in order for us to develop a character like Christ’s, we must share in His work. In order to enter into His joy, the joy of seeing souls redeemed by His sacrifice, we must participate in His labours for their redemption.” What a privilege it is to be called by the Lord to work with Him for the salvation of our fellow brothers and sisters, especially as young people! And this is why AMEN is very close to my heart; it is a family of young people seeking to fulfil the Great Commission and training and inspiring others to do the same.
