New Applicator to Freeze Fat Lose Tough, Non-Pinchable Inches
CoolSmooth is a new applicator for CoolSculpting technology which allows previously difficult areas, such as the outer thigh, to be treated more effectively.
Zeltiq has announced a new CoolSculpting applicator that increases the areas that can be treated with this nonsurgical, noninvasive fat removal technique. The new applicator, called CoolSmooth, is now available at Amerejuve clinics. In the past, CoolSculpting was most effective on areas with pinchable fat. The original applicators pull in skin and unwanted fat, and are then able to treat it. These applicators weren’t as effective on fat that wasn’t pinchable, which for some includes fat on the outer thigh. Now, those trouble spots can be treated even more effectively with the new CoolSmooth applicator. The technology remains the same as original CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting uses cold to destroy fat cells, which are more susceptible to cold temperatures than other types of cells. By targeting fat cells specifically, CoolSculpting leaves the surrounding tissue healthy, and only fat cells are destroyed. Over time, the fat cells are purged naturally by the body, removing

NCI: Detect Breast Cancer Early
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, experts tout early detection. The Susan G. Komen Foundation encourages individuals to “know your normal” to increase the chances of early detection. This makes it easier to detect changes in the breast such as pain, lumps, change in shape, or discharge. The National Cancer Institute recommends yearly mammograms for women over 40. Studies indicate that mammograms decrease breast cancer deaths in women ages 40 to 74, especially women older than 50. A mammogram is an X-ray of the
breast that can help detect abnormalities. Women who have breast implants should inform their physician or technician before the mammogram so they can adjust their scanning techniques. Possible drawbacks of yearly mammograms include false-positive results, false-negative results, and exposure to radiation. However, the National Cancer Institute said the benefits outweigh possible drawbacks. Mammograms do not significantly improve survival rates for women under the age of 40. Feed Your Pumpkin Sweet Tooth, the Healthy Way
Fall is here, and that means the pumpkins are back! This gourd is a popular ingredient in all kinds of sweets, from pies and cookies to pancakes, but it’s not the only way to have it. Enjoy the taste of pumpkin in healthy recipes this season, including soups, gnocchi’s, low-fat pudding, and even ravioli. According to Health, pumpkins are low calorie, but still a great source of potassium and antioxidants. Amerefit Nutritionist Saba Umar said pumpkin is a fantastic ingredient for healthy eating. “Pumpkin is an extremely low calorie fruit with high fiber and absolutely no saturated fats,” she said. “Although technically a fruit, we consider it a vegetable nutritionally, as it Saba Umar, has the qualities of most colored vegetables. I specially recommend pumpkin to clients who Amerefit Nutritionist have higher cholesterol levels because of its high antioxidant and fiber content and low sodium content.” Even if you’re only buying pumpkins to make Jack-o-Lanterns this year, save the seeds for a yummy, healthy treat. “Pumpkin seeds are another great low fat, high protein snack. Unlike protein bars or shakes which can constipate you, pumpkin seeds provide the protein without the tummy issues because of the natural fiber,” Umar said. Pumpkin is a naturally sweet, healthy gourd full of nutrients. During pumpkin carving, set the seeds aside as you remove While it’s normally known for deserts, pumpkin has many

Top 6 Tips for CoolSculpting Treatment More than a million CoolSculpting treatments have been performed worldwide. What are the top tips from real patients? Check If You’re an Ideal Candidate CoolSculpting nonsurgically removes fat cells from the body, but it’s not considered a weight loss tool. A good candidate should be at or close to their ideal weight to ensure you’re treating the right areas and getting the results you’re looking for. CoolSculpting is great for tailoring fat that’s resistant to diet and exercise. Determine How Many Treatments You’ll Need Many clients are happy with a single treatment, which will reduce fat cells in the treated area by about 20 percent. Some need two or three treatments for desired results. This is a conversation to have during your CoolSculpting consultation. Document Your Experience, Before and After Take photos to see how far you’ve come, but
also write or record your thoughts, experiences, and attitudes as you go along. This will help you see your changes over time and plan how you’ll maintain or enhance your results. Bring Something to Keep You Busy Most treatments take at least an hour, so plan to have some time on your hands! Some clients nap, while others read, check e-mail, or watch television or movies or even catch up on work. Just in Case, Be Ready for any Discomfort An estimated 10 percent of clients will feel pain following their CoolSculpting treatment. The pain can last for a few days up to about two weeks. Please speak with your clinic manager about pain management options before your initial treatment so you can have a prescription on hand to take care of any lingering discomfort. Some providers also recommend ibuprofen, but be sure to report any other medications you’re taking and follow all medication instructions carefully.
COOL TIPS, Page 9
COOLSMOOTH, from Page 1 inches from the treated areas. According to Zeltiq’s studies, 92 percent of patients have a noticeable difference after just one treatment. Patients’ personal goals are usually best served by one to three treatments, depending on the area to be treated. A single treatment usually takes about an hour, and many clients use that time to nap, catch up on e-mails, or even watch television. It’s important to note that CoolSculpting is effective at reducing inches, but it will create little overall weight loss in terms of pounds. For weight loss, Amerejuve’s Weight and Wellness service, Amerefit, can provide testing and guidance for effective, personalized weight loss. The results of CoolSculpting are long-lasting as long as the patient maintains healthy nutrition and exercise. No supplements or specific diet are required.
CoolSmooth uses the same technology as previous CoolSculpting applicators to permanently and nonsurgically remove fat cells from the body and create beautiful, contoured results.
While fat cells in the treated areas are removed permanently, that does not prevent the body from gaining weight, possibly in other areas.

Surgery Suite
Best of Both Worlds
Minimize One, Maximize the Other with Fat Transfer Procedure
Fat Transfer is a cosmetic surgery procedure that does exactly what its name says – transfers fat from undesired areas to desired areas. Surgeons have a wide range of option in choosing where to take fat from and where to transfer it afterward based on the goals of the patient. “Donor” sites for fat may include the thighs, flanks, stomach, back, and arms. Once it’s removed, the fat is cleaned to separate any non-fat tissue that came Dr. Ravi with it, then injected into Somayazula a new area. Popular areas to add fat include the breasts, buttocks (also commonly known as a “Brazilian Butt Lift”) and even small amounts in the face to fill out sagging tissue. Dr. Ravi Somayazula, double board-certified plastic surgery, said he recommends injecting relatively small amounts of fat into the area initially. For example, in a fat transfer to add fat to the breast, smaller amounts of fat mean that more of the fat will “take” in the new area.
In a fat transfer, fat cells are transferred from unwanted areas of the body to areas where the patient would like more volume.
“[The fat] lives by receiving blood supply from the breast,” Somayazula said. It takes time for the body to build the new blood supplies. In larger fat transfers, it’s more difficult for the fat to get adequate blood supply in time. Fat cells
that ultimately do not survive in the new area will be safely flushed by the body, but it will mean the patient won’t necessarily get their desired results. One benefit of fat transfer is that it uses

PUMPKIN, from Page 2 the pumpkin’s stringy insides. Simply Recipes says the trick is to boil the seeds in salt water, then roast them for a crispy, salty treat. Lightly salt the water and simmer for about 10 minutes, then drain. The next step, preheat the oven to 400º F, then coat the roasting pan with a little olive oil. Depending on the size of the seeds, they only take about 5 to 20 minutes to roast, so keep an eye on them and remove when they start to turn brown. Set the pan out to cool, and then you’re ready to snack! The seeds can be eaten whole, including the shell. The pumpkin flesh is also a filling, wholesome ingredient to lots of fabulous recipes. Pumpkin is available fresh, or canned options are available, especially during the fall. Check out non-dessert options for cooked pumpkin such as soups, dips, and even ravioli. FAT TRANSFER, from Page 5 the patient’s own tissue. Breast and buttock implants do carry some risk of scar tissue formation because the body sees the implant as a foreign object. With fat transfer, this immune response is not a concern. In a fat transfer, patients also get to remove fat from targeted areas where they’d rather lose a few inches. “You get a secondary donor site advantage,” Somayazula said. As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, a surgeon can go over your goals, medical records, and options to determine if this is the right procedure for you. Consultations and You
Why do I need a consultation? A consultation allows us to examine you in person, fully discuss your goals, and determine the best treatment for you. Depending on your skin, hair, or other factors, some treatments will work wonderfully, while others will be less effective or possibly even unsafe. The initial analysis is an important step to ensuring your treatments are both safe and effective. Roxy We may also find that the treatment you have Baldwin in mind may not be the best option for achieving your goals. Wrinkles are a prime example of this – we have a number of different treatments that all target wrinkles, but we will recommend the best options based on the characteristics of your skin. A consultation also gives us time to fully explain your package and purchasing options, financing, and any other information. What if I’m already a client? If you’re an existing client wanting to try a procedure you have not done before, we may ask or require you to have a consultation specifically about that service. These consultations may take less time, as you’re already familiar with Amerejuve, but we do want to ensure we’re doing our best to meet your goals. Your body changes over time, so we want to make sure we’re making recommendations based on where you are now. Safety and effectiveness are our top priorities, and consultations help ensure we have the information we need to serve you. And we definitely appreciate your patience! Have a question for Roxy?
