Sultan raises minimum pay and pension Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has instructed the Department of Human Resources in the emirate to implement 3 new initiatives for the employees and retirees of the Government of Sharjah at a cost of over Dhs70 million. The initiatives are aimed at providing all means of decent life to citizens. The first initiative stipulates that the minimum salary of an employee of the Government of Sharjah will be Dhs11,000, Tareq Sultan Bin Khadem, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Human Resources, said, adding that the initiative would benefit the employees with grades between 8th and 14th. The second initiative stipulates that the minimum pension be raised to Dhs11,000 from Dhs10,000, he added, noting that around 600 families would benefit from this initiative. The third initiative stipulates that the additional transport allowance of an employee be integrated with the gross salary so as to be calculated within the employee’s pension, he said. It is worth mentioning that the American University of Sharjah is included in this initiative in order to make this university the best global university worldwide. Published on: Edition:

Pink Caravan ride starts on March 16 The Pink Caravan UAE breast cancer awareness initiative has announced that the fifth annual Pink Caravan Ride will take place from March 16-25. The initiative aims to spread awareness about the significance of early detection and self-examination, and to help dispel myths surrounding the disease. The initiative was launched in a press conference held at the American University of Sharjah. Two Saudi female students set to compete at Henkel Challenge Finals in Austria The semifinals of the Henkel Innovation Challenge held on Feb. 19, 2015 in Dubai declared Team Eco-Gent the winners for their innovative and sustainable concept. They will go on to the international finals, which will take place on April 8-11, 2015 in Vienna, Austria. In the GCC semifinals, hosted in Le Meridian JBR in Dubai, attended by Henkel President in GCC Erdem Kocak, students came up with ambitious ideas such as GLISS ID (1st runner) the first hair care customization machine, ReVhy (2nd runner) a customizable spray that cleans the body empowered by a smartphone app and QHQ, an adhesives pen that closes and heals the wounds. The winners were Team Persil Eco-Gent (Ohoud AlArifi and Maha Aba AlKhail) from Al Yamamah University for their concept: A detergent that cleans both water and clothes, where water is recycled and can be reused. “It is a privilege to be able to participate in a prestigious competition like this and present our ideas in front of a jury of this caliber. Winning was just the icing on the cake,� said Ohoud AlArifi from team Persil Eco-gent. Now in its eighth year, the challenge attracts participants from 30 countries. In the GCC semi-finals, the eight participating teams represented various institutions of higher education in GCC, including Al Yamamah University of KSA, the American University of Sharjah and the Carnegie Mellon University of Qatar.
