AUS student comes 2nd at Masar Student Creative Award An American University of Sharjah (AUS) student won second place in the third edition of the Masar Student Creative Award for Print at the Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity 2015.The competition required students to create an original poster in response to the brief issued by the charity Dubai Cares, which focuses on education.Dena Al- Qaisi, a major in mass communication at AUS, won second place for her poster, which consisted of a hand drawn in an artistic way with the slogan "Be the Difference: A Letter a Day, Paves Their Way".It is part of the Dubai Lynx International Festival of Creativity, a leading event in the Middle East and North Africa region that honours the region's best work in advertising. History on a roll To highlight the inventions of the Arab and Muslim world, American University of Sharjah (AUS) student volunteers implemented a project entitled Lab on Wheels to conduct simple yet informative experiments at local secondary schools. During this academic year, over 80 AUS volunteers will visit schools with the materials required to perform experiments, and help students in building them. School design focus for building forum Effective project management, educational design considerations, building to meet growing learner demands and designing with sustainability in mind will form the agenda for a school building forum that opened in Dubai, UAE today (March 23). The Building Future Learning Spaces conference will run until March 25 at Dusit Thani, Dubai. It will be a meeting place for leading education providers, investors and regulators as they discuss strategies on meeting the growing demand in quality educational facilities. Dubai has one of the fastest population growth rates in the region and internationally, with population expected to reach 3.48 million by 2020, up from 2.21 million in 2013. The student population is expected to rise by over 100 000 from 2013, to stand at 360 000 by 2020 creating a need for exceptional education facilities (Colliers). Dr Cindy Gunn, professor and director, Faculty Development Centre, American University of Sharjah, said: “The future of learning is moving towards facilitated independent learning. Universities can prepare themselves for this by providing more active learning spaces and independent learning spaces for their students.� The event will also feature presentations from industry leading organisations consisting of Abu Dhabi Education Council, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Dubai International Academic City, Goldline Education and Consilium Education, among others. Sheikh Sultan Restructures UoS' Board of Trustees His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), has issued a resolution restructuring the University's Board of Trustees. The decree names a number of global figures as members of the new Board, including heads of universities and prestigious global institutes, while at the same time retaining the national figures who were members in the previous Board.
