SHARJAH: His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), received on Monday in his office at the University, the Frisco Mayor in Texas, Maher Maso and his accompanying delegation. Sharjah Ruler welcomed the guests and exchanged cordial talks on issues of mutual interests in the economic and investment fields. Sheikh Sultan received the keys of Frisco City in recognition to his exerted efforts in boosting co-operation in the shared domains between Sharjah and Frisco City. In return, Sheikh Sultan conferred on the guest the University’s a Shield. They posed for photographs. Maher Maso wrote a statement in the University’s gold register for key visitors, lauding the warm reception of Sheikh Sultan. He also praised Sharjah Ruler’s efforts in serving the scientific and cultural fields, stressing that the educational institutions in Sharjah reflect Sheikh Sultan’s prudent vision in the investment and building intellect of the citizens. A number of educational figures at the university attended the meeting. Also during the day, Sheikh Sultan offered condolences on the death of Al Mur Bin Khalaf Bin Ahmed Al Otaiba to his father, his brothers and his family. WAM

AUS signs agreement with SAP allowing students to graduate with industry certification Sharjah, Monday, February 24, 2014: American University of Sharjah (AUS) and SAP Training and Development Institute (SAP) will work together to establish a Dual Study Program that will allow AUS students to be certified in SAP software and graduate with industry credentials. Officials from AUS and SAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, February 24, 2014, by which AUS students will be provided with the opportunity to gain theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of SAP technology in preparation of future work placement. Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were Dr. Thomas John Hochstettler, Acting Chancellor, AUS and Marita Mitschein, Senior Vice President, Managing Director, SAP Training & Development Institute FZCO. “I am delighted with this partnership,” said Dr. Hochstettler. “I have used SAP products while working in different positions in Europe and the Middle East, and I think this agreement gives our university a welcome opportunity to put our resources to work for Sharjah, the UAE and the region as a whole.” “AUS is the first university we are partnering with in the UAE for the Dual Study Program,” said Mitschein. “We are looking forward to offering the first internship that will be set up and we are very pleased with this partnership.” SAP is a leading provider of business software that helps enterprises and governments around the world to improve customer relationships, enhance partner collaboration, create efficiencies across their supply chains and business operations, and improve access to information. ‘Firms must intervene at varsity level to prepare locals for jobs’ Staff Reporter / 25 February 2014 The regional private sector is still dominated by the expatriate workforce, and governments across the region are looking at measures to make the private sector more appealing to the local workforce. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Arab Gulf states need to create a massive 600,000 jobs by 2018, just to maintain a credible percentage of nationals working in the private sector. The two largest economies in the Arab world — Saudi Arabia and the UAE — are challenged to turn the massive growth of their private sectors into jobs for their nationals. One of the region’s IT solutions providers is helping to change the way select UAE students are approaching their university studies by preparing them today to be the country’s workforce of tomorrow. According to the UAE Labour Ministry, the country needs to create anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 jobs a year in the private sector, just to meet the requirements of the labour force likely to join the job market over the next decade. It is estimated that Emiratis working in the private sector do not exceed seven per cent, according to published data from the UAE Ministry of Economy. Initiatives by private companies like scholarships and workplace internships are helping nationals choose careers in the private sector. Hasan Metla, Chief Financial Officer of Omnix International, says that his company became more involved in university activities once it was able to measure the enormous impact of its initiatives. He believes that despite gaps being successfully filled, a greater number of leading organisations should consider playing a role in the provision of services for the UAE’s higher education sector, as participation can only bring shared rewards for all parties involved. “Filling education support services gaps with specialist solutions from third parties is a ‘win-win’ situation for everyone. The educational institutions benefit by having an organisation whose service provision is their particular forte; the students gain from having an additional knowledge resource; and the providers benefit through their name becoming embedded in the minds of a generation of future leaders and potential employees,” said Metla. “Just having a master’s degree is no longer enough to guarantee a top job, students need real-life experiences and market know-how before they step into their working careers. The private sector must play a defining role in helping the new workforce acquire skills, which will make them standout in the job market,” added Metla. ﻛﺮﻣﺖ اﳉﺎﻣﻌﺔ اﻷﻣﲑﻛﻴﺔ ﰲ اﻟﺷﺎرﻗﺔ أﻓﻀﻞ ﻣﺷﺎرﻳﻊ اﻟﺒﺤﺚ اﻟﻌﻠﻤﻲ اﻟﱵ ﻛﺘﺒﻬﺎ اﻟﻄﻠﺒﺔ ﰲ اﻟﻌﺎم ُوذﻟﻚ ﰲ ﺣﻔﻞ ﺟﺎﺋﺰة اﻟﻄﻠﺒﺔ اﻟﺒﺤﺜﻴﺔ اﻟﺴﻨﻮﻳﺔ واﻟﺬي أﻗﻴﻢ ﻣﺴﺎء اﳉﺎﻣﻌﻲ ،2013-2012 أﻣﺲ 25ﻓﱪاﻳﺮ .2014وﻛﺮم 47ﻃﺎﻟﺐ وﻃﺎﻟﺒﺔ ﰲ ﻫﺬﻩ اﻟﻤﻨﺎﺳﺒﺔ ،اﻟﱵ ﻧﻈﻤﻬﺎ ﻣﻜﺘﺐ اﻟﺒﺤﻮث واﻟﺪراﺳﺎت اﻟﻌﻠﻴﺎ ﰲ اﳉﺎﻣﻌﺔ ورﻋﺎﻫﺎ ﻣﺼﺮف اﻟﺷﺎرﻗﺔ اﻹﺳﻼﻣﻲ وﺸﺮﻛﺔ اﻟﻨﻔﻂ اﻟﱪﻳﻄﺎﻧﻴﺔ )ﰊ ﰊ(. واﺧﺘﲑت اﻟﻤﺷﺎرﻳﻊ اﻟﻔﺎﺋﺰة ﺧﻼل ﻣﺮﺣﻠﺘﲔ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻤﺮاﺟﻌﺔ واﻟﺘﺪﻗﻴﻖ ،ﺣﻴﺚ اﺧﺘﺎرت ﳉﻨﺔ ﻣﻦ اﳉﺎﻣﻌﺔ اﻷﻣﲑﻛﻴﺔ ُ ﰲ اﻟﺷﺎرﻗﺔ اﻷﲝﺎث اﻟﻔﺎﺋﺰة ﻣﻦ ﺑﲔ اﻟﻜﺜﲑ ﻣﻦ ﺗﻠﻚ اﻟﱵ ﻗﺪﻣﺖ ﻟﻬﺬﻩ اﳉﺎﺋﺰة ﻣﻦ ﻛﻠﻴﺎت اﳉﺎﻣﻌﺔ اﻷرﺑﻊ ،وﻫﻲ ﻛﻠﻴﺔ اﻵداب واﻟﻌﻠﻮم ،وﻛﻠﻴﺔ اﻟﻌﻤﺎرة واﻟﻔﻦ واﻟﺘﺼﻤﻴﻢ وﻛﻠﻴﺔ اﻟﻬﻨﺪﺳﺔ وﻛﻠﻴﺔ اﻹدارة واﻷﻋﻤﺎل ،وﻗﻴﻤﺖ اﻟﻠﺠﻨﺔ اﻷﲝﺎث وﻓﻘﺎ ﻟﻄﺮﻳﻘﺔ ﺑﺎﺣﺜﻴﻬﺎ ﰲ ﻋﺮﺿﻬﺎ وﻣﺪى ﻗﺎﺑﻠﻴﺘﻬﺎ ﻟﻠﺘﻄﺒﻴﻖ وﻋﻤﻖ اﻟﺒﺤﺚ واﻟﺘﺤﻘﻴﻖ واﻹﺑﺪاع . وﻗﺪم ﻣﺼﺮف اﻟﺷﺎرﻗﺔ اﻹﺳﻼﻣﻲ ﻣﻜﺎﻓﺂت ﻣﺎﻟﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﻔﺎﺋﺰﻳﻦ ﺑﺎﻟﻤﺮاﻛﺰ اﻟﺜﻼﺛﺔ اﻷوﱃ ﺑﺎﻹﺿﺎﻓﺔ ﻟﻠﺜﻼﺛﺔ اﻟﻔﺎﺋﺰﻳﻦ ﺑﺎﳉﻮاﺋﺰ اﻟﺘﻘﺪﻳﺮﻳﺔ ،وﻗﺪﻣﺖ ﰊ ﰊ ﺣﻮاﺳﻴﺐ ﻟﻮﺣﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﻔﺮق اﻟﺒﺤﺜﻴﺔ اﻟﺜﻼث اﻟﱵ ﻓﺎزت ﲜﺎﺋﺰة اﻻﺣﱰام وﺟﺎﺋﺰة اﳉﺮأة وﺟﺎﺋﺰة اﻟﻔﺮﻳﻖ اﻟﻮاﺣﺪ.
