Clicking with fashion It was the best of times when, on April 17, fashion house Gucci hosted an exclusive Art Talk to celebrate its Icons for Icons exhibition at The Gate Atrium, DIFC, Dubai. Being a woman gave her certain advantages. For one, she could visit homes more easily. She is comfortable shooting both in colour and in black and white. She loves Nikon and uses a Canon. "But perhaps there is no real difference", she said. "Maybe it is all in your head". Guests were invited to take part in the conversation, discussing the subjects of art, photography and Middle Eastern culture, before visiting the exhibition. On display alongside the photographs were Gucci icons like handbags, shoes, clothes, sunglasses, shoes and scarfs. Al Shamsi is an Emirati/Italian photographer based in Dubai. With a Bachelor's degree in Photojournalism from Queensland College of Arts, Australia and a Master's in-Photo-Image from Durham University, UK, plus oodles of chutzpah, she has worked for local media, covering both regional and international news. She has also served as an adjunct lecturer of photography at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). Published on: 01/05/2014 Name: The Gulf Today - Time Out Page: 22-23
