Be aware that anyone asking for this information CAN and WILL debit your account, and usually will take more than they tell you of. 3. Do your homework and ask plenty of questions when investigating a job or business opportunity. They should be able to provide you with clear, understandable information about the type of work you will be doing and provide a physical address (not just a post office box), phone number, and active email or website address, and a business license number from their local county or city, where they are required to register as a business. Did they answer all your questions? Were they evasive, confusing, or hesitant? What type of cost will you have to incur? 4. Never pay a potential employer for a job. A real employer will not ask for money to work for them, or for postage and supplies. They may ask you to fill out an application, provide a resume, and references, and a sign W-4 form. An employer pays you for work you have completed for them and withhold all required taxes, etc. Do not confuse a “job” offer with a business opportunity. 5. Make copies of all paperwork you receive from any company soliciting help in stuffing envelopes or brochures, or any application for a loan. Also make copies of all money orders or checks you send.
