Liposuction is to give a better shape in your body, usually if diet and exercise didn’t work. Small and think blunt-tipped tubes are inserted through tiny cuts in the skin when it’s time to undergo that surgery. The doctor will move the tube under the skin to locate fat deposits and the fats will be removed. Some of the medical conditions that liposuction can be used also:

Introduction

1.

Benign fatty tumors (lipomas)

2.

Abnormal enlargement of the male breasts (gynecomastia)

3.

Problems with metabolism of fat in the body (lipodystrophy)

4.

Excessive sweating in the armpit area (axillary hyperhidrosis)

This type of surgery is usually done in a proper equipped hospital, ambulatory surgery center or doctor’s office. It’s only required to stay in the hospital overnight if large volume of fat needs to be removed. General anesthesia or deep sedation with local anesthetic may be used, which will depend on the case.

Effective New Techniques

1.

Tumescent liposuction – Local anesthetic will inject the area of the body wherein the tube will be inserted. Second, large amount of anesthesia with lidocaine and epinephrine is injected into the fatty tissue before traditional liposuction will start. General anesthesia may not be required therefore it will make you sleep throughout the procedure.

2.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction – Ultrasound will make the fats liquid to remove it much easier. It might be helpful particularly removing fat from the neck, upper abdomen, sides, and back.

3.

Laser-assisted liposuction – Low-energy waves will liquefy the fats by small cannula.

ď śAfter the surgery, the subject area of the body is tightly wrapped to help reduce swelling, bruising and pain. Elastic bandages and tape, support hose, special girdle, or another type of firm-fitting garment may be used, depends on which part of the body was treated. You might wear the compression garment or wrap for 3 to 4 weeks. On the 7 to 10 days, expect lot of bruising and swelling.

ď śYou might be given antibiotics to minimize the risk of infection and the fluid may drain from the incision sites for several days. Most people can normally move, return to regular activities and get back to work after the treatment. Recovery might take longer if large areas were treated.
