Let’s Take a Walk on the Freedom Trail

This year’s meeting will truly be a first of its kind as we slowly and safely approach the “new normal.” Gathering in this storied city, for this historic meeting, will truly be a walk on the “freedom trail,” as we return to meeting together. As the planning continues for the on-site meeting, you can rest assured we will be implementing all safety protocols to maintain a safe and socially distanced meeting, following the CDC’s guidelines, as well as the state of Massachusetts’ guidelines. More information about safety measures can be found on page 2 of the Program Preview.

The Academy’s annual meeting offers a wide array of clinically relevant CE courses and cutting-edge research lectures in the clinical and vision sciences. Featuring more than 300 hours of continuing education in a variety of formats, from intimate hands-on workshops to large symposia, you’ll be sure to leave the Academy’s annual meeting with new knowledge and skills to bring back to your practice and improve patient care.

While at the annual meeting, you’ll also be able to walk the robust exhibit hall. With more than 100 companies exhibiting, we encourage you to plan time to visit the exhibit hall, attend Industry Lunches, breakfast sessions, Vision Theaters, and more. You will find an unmatched array of products, services, new developments, and advancements showcased by the Academy’s industry partners. And you won’t want to miss participating in our 2022 San Diego Giveaway for an all-expenses paid trip to Academy 2022 San Diego!

Held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, the Academy meeting is centrally located and within walking distance from the host hotels, the Westin Boston Seaport and the Omni Boston Hotel. You’ll find the surrounding area easily navigable on foot, with a variety of dining and shopping options just a few blocks away.

When you’re not soaking up the education, there are a variety of sites to visit around the Boston area. If you want to see as much as possible, take a trolly tour and hop on or off at your pleasure. Take a stroll through Boston Common — 50-acres of sprawling parks, urban open spaces, and greenways, which wind through historic Boston neighborhoods. If you’re interested in the Freedom Trail, there’s a self-guided tour waiting for you. Last but not least, you won’t want to miss the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. No matter your interests, there’s something for everyone. As we get closer to Academy 2021 Boston, we’ll be communicating pertinent updates, safety information, and “know before you go” tips via email, so be on the lookout.

Until we meet in Boston, I wish you and yours continued health and wellness. Sincerely,

The American Academy of Optometry inspires excellence in eyecare and optometric practice by fostering research and disseminating knowledge in vision science through its journal, Optometry and Vision Science, and continuing education presented at its annual meeting. Fellows of the Academy are committed to the premise that learning is a lifelong obligation of a professional, as is the commitment to expand the profession’s knowledge base through ongoing fellowship and exchange.
