ince my last article, we held Junior Nationals in Oklahoma and what a great time everyone had! For some reason Heather and Lindsay thought that Josh and I needed to drive a U-Haul filled with prizes and office supplies from the offices in Platte City down to junior nationals! They claim we drew the short straw, but truth be told we didn’t even get to draw a straw! However, when it comes Junior National time, Heather and Lindsay are the BEST in the business at making sure everything goes off without a hitch. Also, Josh and I just do what we are told to do! LOL!! All joking aside, we as an Association are very lucky to have Heather as our Junior Director! I would like to thank her for all the blood, sweat and tears that are poured into that week every year! The hours that all the staff puts in that week are crazy, but to see the kids smile and having fun makes it all worth it! It takes many volunteers and people willing to step up to the plate and help at any moment to make this event a success and I know I would forget someone if I started naming names, so I won’t. But if you helped in anyway through the week in Chickasha, THANK YOU!! In some parts of the country we still have producers who are in need of any rain or moisture they can get. They have started weaning calves early and are trying to get any hay put up or bought if they can. I am traveling right now in Indiana and Ohio while writing this and producers here are saying their crops are amazing and some even say they have had to much moisture and wish they could share. It seems like it is always a battle of some sort when it comes to agriculture. But we always prevail!

| CHIANINA JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 2021

I have started fall herd visits and have a lot of travel planned. I hope to see as many sale calves as I can for both pasture sales and online sales. So, if you are in need of a show heifer or steer give me a call and I can give you an opinion on what I have seen so far and into the fall. The ACA Sire Test Field Day is coming up on August 20 and I am excited to bring people to the University of Illinois in Champaign to see how the cattle are coming along. If you can’t make it to the field day, give Dr. Dan Shike a call and stop by to look at the cattle on feed. They would love to show them to you. There are some important deadlines coming up that you need to put on your radar. We will again have our National Sale in Oklahoma City in January, so when you are weaning calves this fall keep that in mind. Nomination deadline will be November 1st with pictures due by November 15th. It has been two years since we have done an ACA Sire Directory, but we are planning one for 2022! We will roll out a new directory in January at Cattlemen’ Congress in Oklahoma City. The deadline for this will be December 1st. This will give us time to get them designed and printed. Contact me for more info as to costs per bull and further details. We will have banners made again of the bulls to display in OKC and our booth in Denver! There is a lot of excitement going into the fall and into the winter show season and we have lots of shows on the schedule! It’s going be super busy and I look forward to seeing you at these events and on my herd visits along the way!
