Astoria, OR

Known as the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies and surrounded by the beauty of the forest, mountains, 3 rivers and the sea, explore the nationally significant historic region at the western end of the Lewis & Clark Trail. With its steep hills and beautiful Victorian homes, Astoria has been called the “Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest” as it has revitalized the 1920s era downtown for shopping and dining. In 1955, a replica of Fort Clatsop was built near the original site, following Clark’s own sketches, and was eventually named a National Monument to honor the expedition trail from the winter of 1805-1806.

Mt. St. Helens, WA

Established in 1851 and located in Northern Washington, Rainier is visible from the hills around the city. As you cruise through Volcano Alley on the Columbia River you will enjoy views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens. Travel to Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and experience these one of a kind natural landscapes from recommended locations or distant points of interest. At the nearby observatory and interpretive center, look

into the volcanic crater with its steaming dome and witness first-hand the destructive power and damage caused by this volcanic blast in 1980.

Stevenson, WA

In the heart of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, the ship will transit the Bonneville Lock and Dam to reach the port of Stevenson. At the Bonneville Dam Visitors Center, you’ll learn about the workings of the massive turbine generators behind this imposing hydroelectric power source. The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center showcases the area’s unique cultural and historical diversity, from the Native American tribes to Lewis and Clark and 19th-century loggers.

Visit the magnificent Multnomah Falls which is the second highest waterfall in the United States at 620 feet. Enjoy the falls from the visitor center or take a short walk along a paved trail to the Benson Bridge Observation Bridge. The Dalles, OR

The Dalles is a place where spectacular scenery, outdoor adventure, history and friendly residents come together. Located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area between Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams on the south bank, The Dalles is the perfect photographic area. Discover the area where Lewis & Clark camped at Rock Fort Camp during their historic journey to explore the Louisiana Purchase territory in 1805-1806.

Maryhill Museum of Art

Visit the plaster and bronze sculptures and watercolors by Auguste Rodin, including versions of some of his most important works: The Burghers of Calais, The Thinker and portions of The Gates of Hell. The museum also features many pieces of American Indian art, including baskets and beadwork from the Columbia Plateau region.

Native-American influence

Pendleton, OR

Pendleton’s “Old Town” is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Here you can learn more about the incoming pioneers from the perspective of the Native Americans at the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute. In 1896, Pendleton Woolen Mills became the only mill founded specifically to produce trade blankets and is the only location to remain in business after World War II in the U.S. By 1900, Pendleton and other Eastern cities in Oregon had a flourishing Chinatown with a network of tunnels which are now a popular tourist attraction.

Clarkston, WA

Known as one of the twin cities that were named in honor of the famous explorers of William Clark and Meriwether Lewis from the Corps of Discovery Lewis & Clark Expedition, Clarkston is one of the Northwest’s most inland seaports. The cities are linked in sharing the distinction of being the gateway to Hell’s Canyon National Recreation area, a ten mile wide canyon. Hell’s Canyon was carved by the Snake River and is North America’s deepest river gorge, plunging more than a mile below Oregon’s west rim and 8,000 feet below snowcapped He Devil Peak of Idaho’s Seven Devil Mountains.

Amtrak provides regular train service to the Portland train station located in downtown Portland. It is approximately a 15-minute taxi ride to the ship from the station.

Driving

The Red Lion Hotel provides complimentary parking for those who will be driving to the ship.

Arriving Early?

If you arrive the day before your cruise, we suggest you stay at the Red Lion Hotel on the RiverJantzen Beach. This is the closest and easiest hotel to the Queen of the West. Please ask for the special American Cruise Lines rate. If flying into Portland International Airport, the hotel will provide complimentary transportation from the airport to the hotel. Please call the hotel directly to arrange this transportation at (503) 283-4466.

Boarding Process

Boarding the ship takes place between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The ship leaves promptly at 1:30 p.m. (earlier if all passengers are onboard). From the moment you arrive, the American Cruise Lines deckhands will handle everything for you. From helping you with your luggage to assisting you onboard—we will handle everything with care. There are no restrictions on luggage, but it is recommended to bring as few bags as necessary. Suitcases less than 10 inches high may be stowed under your bed.

Cruise Conclusion

On the last day of your cruise, the ship will dock at the Port of Clarkston located at 849 Port Way, Clarkston, WA 99401. You may disembark until 8:30 a.m. If flying home, we recommend you fly from either Lewiston-Nez Percé County Regional Airport (approximately 5 miles from the ship) or Spokane International Airport (located 90 miles from the ship). Taxis are typically available at the ship and American Cruise Lines offers transportation to the airport.
