Members Only! King Kenny Dishes on his Notorious Ride at the ’75 Indy Mile!
Buckle those chinstraps and strap on those steel shoes, folks, because the September issue’s Dirt Track theme is gonna blow some minds — especially for those old enough to remember the 1975 Indy Mile and King Kenny Roberts’ amazing performance on the soon-to-be-outlawed Yamaha TZ750 dirt tracker. Roberts, who’d never ridden the bike prior to the Indy Mile event, barely qualified and started toward the back in the Main, but after figuring out how to rail around the outside, smacking the straw bales lining the course as he did it, KR caught and passed Corky Keener and Jay Springsteen just inches from the finish. The rest is history, and you can read all about it in Kenny’s own words. There’s more dirt track stuff in the issue, too — Steel Shoe Stories from all across pro and amateur flat track and a look at the leading ladies in the sport through history — so get ready for a heckuva read.
