THE PISTACHIO

HARVEST IS UNDERWAY INSIDE

The Ultimate Football Fan Snack Active Lifestyle Influencers VFED Nutrition Conference Sampling Events in Spain LeadOn is Accepting Applications APGov Report

THE PISTACHIO HARVEST IS UNDERWAY It’s pistachio harvest season. Over the course of several weeks, millions of pounds of pistachios will be processed, roasted and shipped all over the world. APG’s global social media is educating consumers about the American pistachio harvest from the tree's origins to tree grafting to the difference between a nut and a drupe, finishing with the harvesting and processing of American’s green nut. The story of American pistachios has been written with the help of our growers, the Kusmak family of Tularosa, New Mexico, and Alison Nagatani of Earlimart, California. Via daily posts, they will give consumers a peek into their pistachio harvest activities. To view the posts, click here.

FOOTBALL WITHOUT FOOTBALL FANS IS LIKE PISTACHIOS WITHOUT THE NUT. Football fans take their sport seriously: Lucky jersey; game-day war paint; favorite seats; and must-have pistachios. APG is adding to the weekly winning rituals by providing, via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, a winning lineup of fan-favorite pistachio snacks to make game-day fun and healthy. Our weekly posts on social media will promote pistachios as the fan-fav food for both ultimate and casual fans. All posts will link to the football landing page of APG’s website, where fans can find a lineup of fan-favorite pistachio snacks, each worthy of a touch-down celebration.

Our sport-nutrition ambassador, Bryan Snyder, Director of Nutrition for the Denver Broncos, also offers healthy game-day winning snacks. During each week in October, Bryan will answer questions concerning sport nutrition, live on Instagram. The blog, “Ask a Sport Nutritionist,” will be promoted via social media. All questions and answers will be posted on APG’s website, AmericanPistachios.org

ACTIVE LIFESTYLE

INFLUENCERS

Across the U.S., and in Italy and Germany, APG is teaming up with popular influencers—health and fitness enthusiasts who are coaches and trainers and who have an average following of 50,000 health-conscious consumers. The goal? Use their influential voices and authenticity to reach and persuade a large audience of active consumers regarding the health and fitness benefits of pistachios. The social media posts have reached more than 700 million consumers.

VFED NUTRITION CONFERENCE IN GERMANY

APG exhibited and sponsored a presentation at the VFED Nutrition Conference, in Germany, September 14 - 16, 2018. APG nutrition expert in Germany, Dr. Wiebke Elsner, presented the results of two studies that earned pistachios a superfood status: A workplace study that showed eating a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack of pistachios might boost brain power and concentration levels at work; and a French study that revealed adding a daily pistachio snack to an existing diet is not likely to cause weight gain. In fact, eating pistachios could add important nutrients that may be missing in the diet. Two hundred nutrition professionals participated in the presentation, and more than 1,800 attended the conference.

SAMPLING EVENTS IN SPAIN

A sample pack of American pistachios was included in the goodie bags belonging to more than 16,000 runners and cyclists who participated in fitness events across Spain. Our 100-calorie sample packs not only provided the athletes with the ideal post-race snack, but the backside of the bag listed the pistachio nutrition facts and comparisons with other healthy foods. Spectators and runners also viewed the American Pistachio Growers logo on pre-promotional materials such as the race mailer and website, and on banners placed at the beginning and end of the race.
