Inspire.

In a word, Raymond James believes in the transformative power of the arts. Perhaps the most meaningful thing you can do with success is share it. And when you do that with care and conviction, giving can be an art form – one Raymond James has been practicing since 1962. Today, we carry on the charitable legacy of our founder Bob James in words and actions as we seek to go forward by giving back. LIFE WELL PLANNED.

Raymond James is proud to support the American Stage Theatre Company.

MARCO RAMIREZ

A NOTE FROM PLAYWRIGHT MARCO RAMIREZ

I'm an okay writer. I went to writing school. I had great teachers along the way (like Tampa's own Linda Zelenak). But since before I could read, and definitely before I could write, I've had rhythm in my blood. My parents tell stories of the syncopated way my toddler fingers would snap. Everything was an instrument. My school desk. The kitchen counter. And there was a moment, when I was 12 or so, where if someone had handed me a pair of drumsticks, I'd be a working musician today. But instead (I don't know why, maybe my mother had a migraine that day, maybe no sane mother puts drumsticks in your hands), I was taken to a public library - and I fell in love with the smell of books. And so the music took a back seat. But as the great Gloria Estefan once sang - "The rhythm is gonna get you." WHO’S WHO ON STAGE / DIRECTOR'S NOTE

A NOTE FROM DIRECTOR LISA TRICOMI POWERS

We all know the boxing phrases that serve as metaphors for life: "Roll with the punches"…"I’m in your corner"… "Throw in the towel"…"below the belt". Boxing clearly reflects the paradoxes inherent in our struggle through life – our ability to achieve dreams while separating the haves from the have nots; to escape violence through violence; to fight out of something and in something else. Boxing is the bloodiest, most primitive, stylized sublimation of a fight to the death; two men enter the ring, but only one, symbolically, climbs out. I have been mindful of the relevancy of this story to the state of our nation today - the racial strife that exists, the painful ghosts of our nation’s past evertugging at our collective memory as we struggle to figure this out how, together, we might ever right such wrongs. If boxing is a metaphor for the struggle of life, we must fight our way through the ghosts of our past toward something better. THE ROYALE invites us to look at our struggles - as individuals and as a nation and contemplate how far we are willing to go in order to move forward. Lisa Tricomi Powers

Featured Visual Artist

Thank you to the talented visual artist Herbert Scott Davis who, along with professional photographer Joey Clay, and the American Stage in-house design team created the production artwork for THE ROYALE. Learn more about this collaborative project in our lobby. "The words WE THE PEOPLE inspire a thought that seems to be in decline in American society today, this nation was founded on the concept, Of the People, By the People, and For the People, perhaps this series of plays and art exhibits can remind us of the importance of these simple words." - Herbert Scott Davis HERBERT SCOTT DAVIS, Fine Artist Painter, was born in Tampa in 1961, Herbert was raised in the multicultural neighborhood of Ybor City, which helped to form the many different interests he has in art. Herbert attended the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, earning a degree in Advertising and Marketing. Upon returning to Tampa he began a career in advertising, working as a freelance illustrator for many of the local agencies. He later shifted his interest to fine arts his first love. He now creates art from his studio in Tampa. An exhibit curated by the Gulf Coast Museum of Art was purchased by the City of Saint Petersburg and now is on display at Enoch Davis Center in Saint Petersburg, FL.
