Freedom PROCESS
The brand new wheelchairs we deliver would sell for $500 in a medical supply store, but because we purchase them by sea containers of 110 to 280 wheelchairs, and deliver them directly to the country of destination, we can do this for only $150 per wheelchair.
We are transforming lives through mobility!
HELPING
Rotarians have delivered hundreds of thousands of wheelchairs around the world, and right here at home. This hands-on service project addresses the needs of people who have suffered the affects of Polio and many other reasons for immobility. A wheelchair brings freedom, hope, dignity and independence.

AMERICAN WHEELCHAIR MISSION MISSION
The American Wheelchair Mission is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering mobility into the lives of people with physical disabilities who have no means to acquire a wheelchair. Over 100 million children, teens and adults throughout the world are in need of mobility assistance.
WHEELCHAIRS FOR CHILDREN A major focus of the American Wheelchair Mission is to supply wheelchairs to children throughout Latin America in association with the Teletón rehabilitation centers for children. These 85 world-class facilities in 13 countries are able to save children from the prison of immobility with physical and occupational therapy, medical treatments, and mobility devices.
DONATION FORM Each $150 donation will allow us to deliver a brand new wheelchair into the life of a child, teen or adult in desperate need of mobility. For each $150 donation, you will receive a beautiful certificate folder with the picture of a wheelchair recipient inside.

IMPACT
The delivery of a wheelchair to a person without mobility improves the quality of life for the entire family. Children can go to school, adults can work to support their family, and the elderly can get out of a bed they may have been in for years. We estimate that each wheelchair improves an average of ten lives!
Your club or district can sponsor the delivery of an entire container of 110 to 280 wheelchairs to the destination of your choice, from our list of approved destination countries, including right here at home. You can coordinate a trip to participate in the wheelchair distributions, include other humanitarian projects, and develop sister club relationships with fellow Rotarians in other countries. This project has been voted the #1 “bang for your buck” service project by clubs and districts involved in our program. For information about other mobility aids and wheelchair designs we deliver, please contact Chris Lewis at clewis@amwheelchair. org.
