AmeriCorps Pledge I will get things done for America — to make our people safer, smarter and healthier. I will bring Americans together to strengthen our communities. Faced with apathy, I will take action. Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground. Faced with adversity, I will persevere. I will carry this commitment with me this year and beyond. I am an AmeriCorps Member and I will get things done.

AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Accomplishments Two years ago, the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) created an innovative partnership to establish a FEMA-devoted unit of 1,600 service corps members within AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). Just like the current NCCC, FEMA Corps is a full-time, team-based, residential program for people ages 18 to 24. The difference is that FEMA Corps members are deployed exclusively to support disaster response and recovery projects. FEMA Corps members are trained in specialist positions: Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, Logistics, Disaster Survivors Assistance, and many others. The Southern Region campus in Vicksburg, Mississippi received their second class of FEMA Corps members in August 2013. Their service reached beyond the 11 Southeastern states to Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, Washington, and Washington DC. Their projects ranged from working directly with disaster survivors to supporting Disaster Recovery Centers to sharing disaster response and mitigation information with the public. Some of the service project highlights included:
Logistics teams supported 22 warehouses.
Public Assistance teams processed, reviewed, or updated 5,774 project worksheets.
Disaster Survivors Assistance teams provided outreach to over 1,163 survivors and attended 129 public meetings.
FEMA Corps members supported survivors and their communities following the deadly tornado outbreak in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and Mississippi by providing direct assistance that included:
111 case status updates conducted
2,071 hours of general administrative duties performed
Information provided to 778 individuals
361 individuals registered door to door
222 individuals registered at a facility
372 non-critical needs referrals made
277 referrals made to voluntary agencies
Message from Acting Director, AmeriCorps NCCC
June 5, 2014 Dear AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Member, It is with the greatest of pleasure that I congratulate you on the successful completion of your service as a member of the AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Class 20. You have made a significant difference in the lives of many disaster survivors and communities during your service. You have definitely served during some exciting times! You and your fellow members served with dedication and selflessness. Because you persevered and endured, others who suffered through hurricanes, floods and tornadoes were able to make significant progress towards their recovery. Your service year has exemplified the best of AmeriCorps NCCC. You are now part of the venerable legacy of the thousands of Americans who have serviced their country in one of the most rigorous national service programs. You should be proud of this tremendous accomplishment, as am I. I hope that this year has strengthened your commitment to ongoing, active civic participation. I encourage you to stay connected with the NCCC network and join with AmeriCorps Alums at www.americorpsalums.org from across the network of national service programs. Again, congratulations on a job well done and my sincerest appreciation for choosing the NCCC for your service experience. Most sincerely,
Gina Cross Acting Director, AmeriCorps NCCC
