Looking for a program that offers you peace of mind for maintenance on your HVAC unit?
Heating and air conditioning systems are one of the largest investments we make for our homes. Yet, we hardly think about their upkeep; only thinking about them when our comfort is negatively affected and then we realize how much we take our HVAC systems for granted.
Just as your car needs a regular tune up to run efficiently, your heating and A/C systems need regular maintenance. If you consider that it runs continuously, day in and day out, for years without much attention, the inefficiency and wear & tear could end up costing you dearly. Call today and become a part of our Comfort Assurance Program –a bi-annual program including an inspection of both your cooling and heating systems through the year for one fee.

Iam Mayor Chad Leonard, City of Amery. I am so grateful for your interest in our “City of Lakes”. Amery is a great community that offers many opportunities to play, shop, stay and live. For you outdoor enthusiasts, recreation is plentiful with biking and hiking trails. Our rivers and lakes are some of the best in the region to enjoy watersports and fishing. We offer many great places to eat, drink and socialize. I consider our community to have the best options around for those that are looking for that perfect vintage item for their home or cabin from one of our many vintage shops. I hope you have a great time exploring our beautiful city as there is something for everyone.
Hurry Back!
WELCOME HOME!
Amery has been the place I have called home my entire life. Whether you have decided to plant roots here or you are visiting, I hope our little town gives you a homey feel with all it has to offer.
Amery is a small community with big offerings. A combination of multigeneration owned family businesses and new entrepreneurs provide Amery a unique blend of staple and specialty shopping.
Amery is filled to the brim with community events. Several summer music series, festivals and State trail activities provide a little something for everyone. A blend of culinary options sees those who crave down home goodies to foodies with particular palates all being extremely satisfied.
Once you visit Amery, you are bound to schedule a return trip.
Sitting on the banks of the Apple River, Amery began as a lumberjacking town. The community grew around the sawmill. At this time, the area was known as “Big Dam.”
In 1887, the Soo Line Railroad depot was built as well as a hotel. Small stores and homes followed. The city was named Amery after William Amery. He was born in England in 1831. Amery learned the carpentry trade in London and ventured to the U.S. in 1861. Originally, he lived in Stillwater, eventually settling in Polk County, WI. There, he became a prominent resident and county treasurer. He died in 1887, after which they renamed of the area known as Big Dam to Amery.
1888-1893 were the years of Amery’s building boom. An implement store, furniture store, doctor’s office, hardware store and post office popped up.
Those years also saw many saloons opening their doors in Amery. By 1890 there were at least six and the nights were celebrated long and loud. An 1889 report details a fellow by the name of Charles Park owed a bill in which the saloon keeper was trying to collect. A fight ensued, resulting in Park being hit over the head with a beer bottle by Ole Hoserud. Park succumbed to his injuries. His death certificate stating he came to his demise at the hand of a beer bottle.
The city is not as rowdy as it once was, but there is still plenty of fun to be had.
Early years saw lumber mills, canning factories and cheese factories establishing the roots of a city where people could work, live and play. Products have changed, but industry itself has remained a constant.
Today, Amery is just a stones throw from the Twin Cities, which is convenient, but many find everything they need right here in 54001.

Cattail State Trail
The Cattail State Trail travels for 18 miles on a former rail corridor between the communities of Amery and Almena in northwestern Wisconsin. Forests, farmlands, prairies, hills and various wildlife habitats surround the trail, which also passes through the Village of Turtle Lake. The trail is maintained and managed by Polk and Barron counties.
Trail activities: The trail may bring a number of different users to the trail at the same time. It is important to use good trail etiquette to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all trail users.
ATVs, UTVs & Off-Highway Motorcycles
All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are allowed on the trail yearround. Off-road motorcycles are allowed on the trail year-round in Polk County only. Operators must follow all Wisconsin ATV operation laws. Barron County has an extensive network of ATV routes and has opened a trail that connects with the Cattail, east from Almena to the village of Poskin. The connecting trail is on private land. Please stay on the trail and respect property boundaries.
About 2.5 miles east of Almena, Barron County has developed an ATV intensive use area. There is a trailhead with rest rooms available. Both ATV and snowmobile routes pass through the area and can use the trailhead.
Hiking, Bicycling, Pets & Walking
The entire trail is open to walking and bicycling, though bicycling is not recommended. The trail may be rough or soft in many sections. If you plan to bike the trail, the tread is more suitable for off-road bikes.
Pet owners, please be sure to have your pet on a leash, 8 feet or shorter, at all times. You must pick up after your pet.
Horseback Riding
The entire trail is open to horseback riding. The trail is not groomed or surfaced and may be rough or soft in many sections. Riders must share the trail with motorized vehicles.
Snowmobiling Winter activities
Snowmobiles are permitted on the trail. Operators must follow all Wisconsin snowmobile laws. The trail also connects to numerous miles of county snowmobile trails.
The opening and closing of snowmobile trails is at the discretion of each county. Snowmobile trails which cross DNR lands are opened and closed consistent with the
surrounding county (or counties). Whenever possible, the opening and closing of snowmobile trails is done on a county-wide basis, however localized conditions may require localized trail opening and closing. It is the responsibility of the county to provide notification about the status of snowmobile trails. The Travel Wisconsin Snow Conditions Report, and local club and county snowmobile web pages and telephone hotlines will provide the most current information.
About 2.5 miles east of Almena, Barron County has developed an ATV intensive use area. There is a trailhead with rest rooms available. Both ATV and snowmobile routes pass through the area and can use the trailhead.
The trail is open to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, however, the trail is not groomed and skiers and snowshoers must share the trail with snowmobiles. Skiers do not need a trail pass while using the trail.
No hunting and trapping allowed on the trail
Gandy Dancer Trail
The 98-mile recreation trail follows the railroad grade from St. Croix Falls north to Superior. The southern segment from St. Croix Falls to Danbury, 47-miles, is surfaced with crushed limestone offering a hard surface trail for biking and hiking from April through November.
A bike pass is required and can be purchased at the Polk County Tourism Center in St. Croix Falls and at points along the trail.
The northern segment, 51-miles, runs from Danbury through eastern Minnesota to Superior. This segment offers a wilder, more remote trail experience. Hiking, mountain biking and ATV use is permitted. No pass is needed, but ATVs must display valid registration.
From December to March the entire 98-mile trail is operated as a snowmobile trail. Mile post signs mark the distance from south to north.
The trail passes through many small towns in the southern segment, allowing for easy access to food, bathrooms, and lodging.
Stower Seven Lakes State Trail
Built on a former railroad corridor, this 14-mile trail begins in Amery at Harriman Avenue, travels through the communities of Deronda, Wanderoos and Nye, ending about one mile from Dresser at 90th Avenue. The trail passes through maple and oak forests, wetlands, prairies and farmlands and past many picturesque lakes. The trail

THE EVENT OF THE YEAR AMERY FALL FESTIVAL
Food-check. Music-check. Artcheck. Parade-check. Carnivalcheck. Back up plans in case of a boring time-DON”T BOTHER!
Thursday, May 26th 1949, 25 men gathered at the Amery Legion Hall to discuss proposals for a fall community affair. Allen Kinney, president of the Amery Community Club, formed the group and G.E. Niccum prepared a committee plan. The name “Fall Festival” was chosen and directors were elected to manage the festival and funds that would be maintained from year to year.
Since 1949, there have been many changes to the festival from year to year. The one constant? A group of dedicated volunteers has worked tirelessly throughout the year to provide a entertainment-filled
weekend for residents and visitors alike.
From handfuls of mouthwatering food choices, ice cold cans of dance move confidence (or as some call beer), car shows, rides, games, a
mega-parade and arts & crafts galore-there is one thing for sure; you will never visit the Amery Fall Festival just once. Year after year people flock to the fun times of the Fall Festival.

AMERY SUMMERS WILL BE MUSIC TO YOUR EARS
If you want to follow the advice the well-known group the Doobie Brothers and “Whoa, oh listen to the music,” then Amery is the place to be during the summer months. Amery is the place for summer music almost every day of the week in 2023. Local taverns are jamming, and with the cherished Music on The River concert series on the third Friday of June, July and August; plus the lovely weekly concert series known as “Summer Wednesdays,” Amery is a mecca of music.
The Danielson Stage in Michael Park hosts all of the events and both feature food and drink options as well.
Music on the River has a classic car show hosted by Amery Chevrolet and it sure draws a crowd! One of the Music on the River coordinators, Tom Bensen, said, “As word gets out, our summer three-part concert series Music on the River continues to swell. It is a great time. We want to remind people these are free concerts
all provided by the generosity of our local businesses and sponsors. Without them, we would not be able to put on these great shows.”
Music on the River features two musical acts at each event. The opening show is at 5 p.m. and the headliner starts at 7 p.m.
The Summer Wednesday events take place each Wednesday from JuneAugust, starting at 6 p.m. They feature high quality performers in a wide range of styles - a little something for everyone!
“The Danielson Stage at Michael Park in Amery was designed to be one of the best places to hear live music and the community obviously appreciates it,” says Summer Wednesday music coordinator Woody McBride, “This is not your average concert in the park - these are top notch performers that play from the heart - and the audience can feel itI know I can.”

AMERY ART & CRAFT FAIR
Mark your calendars to stroll through an outdoor mall of sorts; held the Saturday before Father’s Day each June. Amery’s North Park is the place to be as 2023 sees the Woman’s Club hosting their annual Art and Craft Fair for the 45th year.
Years ago, the event started on the sidewalks of Keller Avenue and today sits nestled along the tree lined walkway of beautiful North Park. Organizers say the Amery Art and Craft Fair has transitioned into a very large, diverse and fun annual event showcasing the talents of local and area crafters and artists.
The Amery Art and Craft Fair provides a showcase for crafters and artists from the local and surrounding areas. A plethora of exhibit booths feature a variety of unique craftsmanship and talent. It is a favorite fair of many vendors who return year after year. There is no reason for shoppers to leave empty-handed as the fair truly features something for everyone. Organizers said, “If it is something special you are seeking, this is the place to find it!”
Various food items from gyros to gourmet popcorn will delight your taste buds, but make sure to leave room for dessert. Famous for their homemade cookies, Amery Woman’s Club members will have dozens of varieties of their special baked goods available for sale at the AWC booth. New this year, there will be musical entertainment for the Fair goers.
The fair is the biggest yearly fundraiser for the Woman’s Club to raise monies in support of many community charitable organizations, including over $3,250 in scholarships to local youth and adult non-traditional students.
Grab your friends and family and make a day of it. There is no admittance fee and the yearly event runs from 9a.m. until 3p.m.
See you at the fair!
HOLLY JOLLY STROLL
It is typically a chilly day, but that is why chili is provided!
A kick-off to winter, Amery’s Holly Jolly Stroll is a day filled to the brim with holiday hullabaloo.
The Holiday stroll was an idea set forth by the Amery Free Press 38 years ago, as a day to drop by participating Amery businesses for a little taste of season greetings. The tradition has continued on at the hands of the Amery Free Press, the Amery Community Club the Amery Fire Department and cooperating businesses. You will find variety of activities, which in years past have included free smores and hot cider in Soo Line Park, horse and wagon rides, a Woman’s Club cookie sale, pictures with Santa, tea with Mrs. Claus, carolers, winter workshops, crafts, and an “Ugly Sweater Dash” 5k walk/ run.
It also serves as a day of giving. There are opportunities to donate to Polk County Operation Christmas by decorating the Christmas tree there with “new” mittens, scarves, hats and coats.
There is non-perishable food donation drop spots for area food shelves and the Amery Fire Department takes donations for Toys for Tots.
The day winds down each year with the mega fire department Chili Feed and the Light Up the Town parade.

Airport
Amery Municipal Airport, located at the south end of the city, features a number of amenities to make a visit by air a pleasant experience. The newly paved 75 by 4,000 foot north/south runway can accommodate a variety of aircraft , including small jets. The large ramp provides plenty of tie-down space. There are GPS-RNAV approaches available for inclement weather, as well as pilot controlled lighting that can be activated by 3 clicks on the Unicom frequency (122.8). Newly installed PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) lights help guide pilots down the glideslope.
Both 100LL and JetA with Prist aviation fuels are available 24/7 from our new automated credit card self serve system. MasterCard, Visa, Discover and multi-serve cards are accepted. The pilot lounge, which is always open 24/7, features a restroom, vending machine, aviation weather computer and comfortable furniture.
Further information can be obtained by calling Amery City Hall at (715) 268-7486.
