02 CITY AS A MUSEUM ALEXANDRIA, VA

ACADEMIC 1ST YEAR - SPRING 2021 DESIGN BRIEF Alexandria has eight accredited museums/ historic sites but no single civic locus to tell its stories. This studio proposes that a city of such historical significance deserves an equally significant home for those stories. INSTRUCTOR SUSAN PIEDEMONT-PALLADINO DESIGN METHODOLOGY Museumification of any city is almost a death sentecnce for it. It is important that while trying to treserve the city’s history/heritage we also promote future developement that is senesitive to its context. Building on this thought the project aims at preserving the essence of Alexandria city and converting it into a city museums. this is achieved by integration of the digital and physical strategies. It uses physical place making strategies and digital navigation strategies for seemeless navigation into the city museum. QUESTION
