NEWBORN

when should i book my newborn session? • Some experts say it’s best to photograph babies in their first 10 days of life. While this time frame is ideal for those sleepy curled up baby poses, I will photograph any baby at any time. I know first-hand that sometimes those first days and weeks can not only be exhausting, but sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming to get ready for a session. We may use your arms to “hold” an older than 10 day old baby more as opposed to using my special newborn posing bean bag to capture the details, but I can still capture these first moments for you regardless of how long you wait! You have not missed out! • It’s best to book your newborn session when you are 7-8 months pregnant. Once your deposit is made, I will hold a tentative date that will be flexible. Babies are on their own schedule. So when your baby decides to enter the world, be in touch with me, and together we can book your session.

how long will it take? • A typical newborn session take about 2 hours. Please be prepared to be here for up to 3 hours. I always leave a 3 hour window of time for newborns so there is extra time for comforting, soothing, feeding, and posing. • Again, babies are on their own schedule! Even if you tell them they have a photo session they need to cooperate for, some will do exactly what you want them to do, while others will protest.

what should i bring? • My style of newborn photography is very simplistic with the purpose of bringing the focus of the images towards that brand new life of yours! I will be prepared with lots of backdrops to choose from and cute headbands and hats. But if you have anything sentimental, significant or something you simply can not live without including, bring it along! • Milk/Formula. You will likely be feeding your baby frequently during the session to assist with relaxation. • Extra clothes for you and the baby. You may be included in some of the photos. You may will get peed and pooped on.

what to expect • Expect the studio to be very warm. Babies are most comfortable when it’s warm and cozy. • Expect their to be soft music, or white noise on in the background. This is pleasant to their ears. • Expect to make yourself at home. I will have water, tea, and coffee ready for you. I will call on you if I need you for a photo opportunity, or if I need your assistance. You’ll be no more than a few feet away from me and your baby at all times, but just relax while you watch me at work with your little one. • Expect to feed your baby lots. This is one way we get those sleepy baby poses. Full babies make for happy babies. I will have a private space for you to nurse your baby if you need to. • Expect your baby to be nude. I am very careful to not show any of your baby’s parts in photos. I will photograph your baby in a diaper and onesie if you are uncomfortable with this. • Expect your baby to poop and pee, potentially many times. It comes with the territory. Don’t feel embarrassed or badly if your baby makes a mess of me or the backdrops. I wash everything between sessions, and it’s what they do! This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. • Expect to be patient. Don’t be alarmed if your baby fusses for parts, or even all of the session. I have many tricks for relaxing babies. But my biggest trick is patience.

how can i prepare • You may be included in some of the photography. Wear makeup, dress in something light or dark (try to stay away from patterns) and feel comfortable and beautiful. • Be sure to put your baby’s diaper on loosely before you arrive to avoid red marks. • Be prepared to be away for 3+ hours. Bring lots of extra milk/formula (unless you’re breastfeeding - in which case, plan to feed on demand - it’s hard work posing like a newborn). Bring lots of diapers, wipes, receiving blankets, extra sets of clothes. Bring snacks for yourselves.
