Final 3 Images
Final 3 Images Inspiration – Lucas Simões This is a photograph by Brazilian artist Lucas Simões. It is taken from a selection of images that he has burned in order to create the specific effect that can be seen on the left. However Simões quotes that;“The pictures in these series are not mine, I took them from many different sources. The coloured tag under it is my way of telling that the image is not original, but printed on paper, it symbolises the “ink on paper”.
I find the technique of burning photographs very unique as I believe it can portray different meanings to photos, depending on how it is used. Therefore, I have decided to use the technique of burning in my final 3 images as I believe that the images that the best images I used it in my developmental photos are the ones that are being burnt. In order to recreate images similar to this, I will have to use overlays in Photoshop in order to make it look like the fire is actually on my model’s face. I believe that by doing this, my final photographs will look very prominent as well as being aesthetically pleasing.

Evaluation of Final 3 Images After analysing my developmental photos for both sets of images I have decided to chose these three specific photographs as my final 3 images. This is because I feel they are the photos that portray my models in the most interesting ways as well as being the most prominent. Overall, I wanted my images to portray the idea of my model (as a singer) not caring at what haters may think of them, and to show that you shouldn't let others stop you from achieving your dreams. I believe that these images portray this message the best, as well as creating a unique meaning, with the experiment of fire that I feel my viewers would be able to decipher symbolically as well as visually. For my first final image, I decided to overlay three images from my second set of developmental photographs as they were my favourite images. I wanted to highlight the aspect of using fire in my final idea, so by editing my final image the way I did, I believe I have successfully done this. Originally I had only planned to overlay two images (the black and white photo on the left with the middle photo of the photo on fire) but I felt that the right hand side of the image was lacking interest. Therefore I chose to overlay the third image specifically because I love the attitude and emotions that it portrays. I also like how it creates an almost ghost like effect to the image, as if my model’s soul is watching over her being burned.
I decided to use another image containing fire for my second final idea, as I love the effect it creates in the image. I added more of a close up shot of my model in the background using overlays again because I wanted to portray the idea of her fading away, due to the fire. I didn’t want to over crowd this image because I wanted the main focus to remain on the photo that is on fire. But by editing it with overlays of another image, I believe it has created more depth in my image as well as making it look much more aesthetically pleasing. I didn’t want to edit my second final image too much because I like the colours of the photo on fire, and didn’t want to lose the atmosphere and rebellious attitude that it visually and symbolically creates. For my third final image, I decided to not use the technique of fire, because I didn’t want all three of my final images to look too similar. Instead I mixed an image from both set of ideas in order to create one image. I decided to use developmental image 2 from my second set of photographs because I really liked how the soul of my model’s shoe was in focus but she was not. This is because I felt it made the image very interesting. In order to make it even more unique, I used Photoshop to merge developmental image 4 from my first set of photographs, onto the soul of the shoe. I did this because I wanted to portray the idea of not caring. I believe that the photo of only the soul of the shoe in focus portrays this anyway, and by adding the image of my model with her tongue, the attitude of not caring is emphasised because this is a gesture that people usually do when they ‘don’t care’.
Evaluation of Final 3 Images - Continued I believe that all of my initial photographs for both sets of ideas turned out quite well, al though I prefer my second set of ideas. I feel that I could have improved my first set of ideas by using a wider range of props and different clothing. However, I think that by using the white studio and the flash kit properly, it has resulted in the quality of my images being very good and contributed a lot to making them look as professional as possible. On the other hand, I think that I could have improved some of the photographs by making sure the ISO, aperture and shutter speed of my camera were at the correct settings for all of my model to be in focus. At first it was difficult to get used to the flash kit and to adjust the ISO to make sure my photographs were not over exposed, but I managed to overcome this quite quickly. I prefer my second set of ideas because I feel like I pushed my creative bound a lot further when creating them than in my first set of photographs. This is because after evaluating my first set of ideas, I noticed that I needed to make my photographs look more aesthetically pleasing and prominent. Therefore I decided to take the photographs at a location that wasn’t too abstract, but at the same time added a sense of interest to the photographs. In addition to this I spent more time thinking about what I wanted my model to look like and her facial expressions that would specifically portray the theme of rock. I also decided to take my photographs from a range of different angles and to experiment with the aperture and focus of my images because this was an aspect of photography that images in my first idea lacked. I think that by analysing disadvantages of my first set of photographs, this enabled me to make my second set of photographs be very successful. I think this worked because I am very happy with the outcome of them. I believe that the artists/photographers that I chose to study for both of my ideas really benefited me when it came to taking and editing my photographs. This is because they had inspired me to take into consideration all aspects of photography such as the composition and lighting, as well as ways to develop and edit my photographs. I think that researching other people’s work is very beneficial because it enabled me to think more creatively and to obtain more ideas for my own project. Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of my project as I believe that my final 3 images as well as initial and developmental photos for both sets of ideas portray the brief of my project very well (to promote an up coming musician who is also a style icon). Even though I found it challenging at the start of the project to think of ideas that would be successful, I believe that I have achieved my intentions of the project ad have enjoyed completing it. If I had more time to complete the project, I would have possibly re-taken my set of images for first set of photographs to emphaise the fashion aspect of them. This would make them more prominent and more impressive. As well as this, I would research a wider range of artists/photographs in order to obtain more ideas to create my photographs.
