Award of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman AlKhalifa for Industrial Excellence

President’s Foreward Greetings. GPIC will continue its march towards unprecedented success in the coming months and years, after having achieved remarkable results in the first six months of this year. While bringing out this latest issue, we are proud of our achievements in the last few months. The most significant of these have come from two of the highest global institutions in the field of fertilizers, the International Fertilisers Association (IFA) and its Arab region counterpart, the Arab Fertilisers Association (AFA). Choosing an Arab national as its head, the IFA has honoured Bahrain and the Arab world and has given us an opportunity to do more and to to demonstrate our ability to lead global organisations and leave our mark on them. Another honour came from the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, which gave the GPIC its Archangel Award, the highest accolade in its Guardian Angel Awards category. There is no doubt that I am very proud of these achievements and it certainly is not a personal recognition but recognition of the advanced level achieved by the company in the region and beyond. This success is also due to the flexible policies

set up by the Board of Directors, led by His Royal Highness the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Oil and Industrial Affairs and GPIC Chairman, His Excellency Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, and the company’s management and its partners. The company having been named the best performing Arab entity and winning the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award 2014 as well as being awarded the Gulf Award for outstanding humanitarian work by the Regional Network for Social Responsibility have been major achievements. The GPIC is committed to its role in the community and, in keeping with its annual practice, recently celebrated the Family Health and “S.H.E.” Week, an event devoted to safety at home and at the workplace. This year, more than 1,500 employees and their families attended the celebrations. We also marked the conclusion of the education programme for environmental research, the most prominent in the field of community partnership. I take this opportunity to thank all of the company’s staff for their efforts and dedication and which has made all these achievements a reality, making the GPIC a company, which has brought joy and pride to Bahrain.

Japan's Life Experience .. Khalid Bin Abdulaziz Al Mana

When in 1980, at the age of 18, I went to study at a prestigious Japanese university and, it was a strange and mysterious place of which I had virtually no knowledge. However, in the absence of sufficient information, what I did know was the Japanese language, which I loved writing because of its very beautiful characters. On the first day in class, I learnt a lesson that I would remember for the rest of my life. I was at the engineering laboratory, where all my fellow students were amazed at my mastery of the Japanese language. I had worked hard at perfecting my skills and was very proud of what I had achieved. As I saw the instruments and gadgets to conduct the experiment in front of me, I thought to myself that this was a golden opportunity for me to show my skills not only at the language but also at my familiarity

with the instruments.Though the task at hand required five hours of continuous work, I though it would be better if I worked on my own and complete it quickly. The result was that it took me less than 30 minutes to complete. I thought I had done a great job to impress my fellow students and, more importantly, the professor in-charge.

to bring about a radical change in the way I worked and thought in order to be eligible for the university. I thought it was grossly unfair of him to do what he did but he was adamant and said he would be welcome to come back a year later. It was over a passage of time that I understood the significance of this incident; that the spirit of teamwork is one of the reasons I was, therefore, taken aback for success. when he called me into his room.
