The functional structure is a grid of coliving cells with various functions for residents and townspeople. The residential grid is the streets in the city where the townspeople go to satisfy their needs and receive the necessary service. Each coliving block has four functions: vertical communication, a collective function for residents, and a function for the city. Living room cells have a similar planning structure but different functional content outside, which can change over time.

1. Step by step industrial identity of district is changing to take place to new beauties. The neighboring Kopli cargo railways, which served specific communication goals, now serve largely to separation. The two districts of Kalamaja and Pelgulinn are dissconnected.

2.Based on rotation concept of swing bridge located on a Site, our project switches site space to create a new communication. Master plan proposal is a kind of new rails that contribute to new type of communication between districts. Preserving and extending the connection of Kungla and Volta streets over the site enhances urban interaction in this area. 3.Rethinking two basic materials - wooden housing and industrial architecture of the district - we bring new aesthetic approach. Defining wood for living space and metal for public space as an trace of industrial legacy, we unite them in one structure. Certain material intuitively provides certain activity to happen. 4. Grid structure of solid lines and open space yards offers functional flexibility and mutual space interaction. Diversity of private and public space relations, which appear in between structure, helps to involve different types of inhabit practices. Grid is open to contain both local services for constant habitats like shared offices, cultural centres, libraries (...) and elements of urban significance as well. 5.We pay accurate attention to local architectural scale values preserving place from dramatic changes. Since beauty can not be defined in certain terms, we offer its changeable model.

Planning of ITMO Highpark is based on the principle of a clear orthogonal urban grid. This concept of planning the so called ideal cities, takes its origins in the Roman times, and is continously used until modernity, due to its efficiency and potential of growth.

MAP OF CENTRAL SAINT PETERSBURG: DENSE URBAN BLOCKS INTERMINGLED WITH SQUARES, GARDENS, PARKS AND OTHER VOIDS.

Production zone has a smaller scale of 1 city block. Each block has several interior courtyards. The residential zone has the smallest urban scale. It consists of small housing units, united into semiopen perimetral blocks with big courtyards inside. The overlap of functional loops creates functional diversity. Areas, where 3 zones overlap, new functions emerge. Besides main functions, the new functions are: the main square, main garden, 2 sports centers, livework units etc. All the areas are connected by a loop of a river, which is taking its reference from the river Neva and traditional Saint Petersburg Channels.

Program: Core Functions And Overlap

Programme is divided in 3 chunks: Education, Production and Rezidential zones. Overlap creates functions and triggers collaboration and exchange of knowledge

3 Rings: three different atmospheres

Each functions takes a shape of a rectangular loop. The loops are organized according to urban grid, and create new areas of functional fluidity in the overlapping areas

3 Different Scales

The project proposes to a new city grid of diverse functions with a cell of 80m*80m, applied to the core part of the site with the potential of future growth.

The project of new sport center for Kazan is located under the Millenium bridge, which today is attractor for youth. Urban concept forms a connection between culture center and sport center and together they form riverside. Architecture concept of project consist of soaring and mirrored volume on red hills. The hills of sportcenter combine sport connect with open skatepark and activate facade from all sides. Each hill has its own function for different users. Today project is under construction.

Involve: Hills design and 3d modeling, facade design and test studies for facade design, lecture room design, most of all final visualizations [Collaborative with KOSMOS Architects+Legato]

The concept of the "Switzerland Park" in Nizhny Novgorod is based on respect for the nature and history of the park, sensitive work with the context, as well as unlocking the potential of the park's natural landscape. The park has 3 pronounced natural landscape zones stretched from south to north: plateau zone, (city park), active relief zone, (mountain park), and embankment, (water park). The park is divided into 7 thematic zones: children's, central, sports, landscape, memorial, local and resort zones. They organize the park in the longitudinal direction, and when superimposed on 3 pronounced natural landscape zones that form the park in the transverse direction, it creates 21 diverse park atmospheres. The project creates a matrix of functions and landscape, carefully collecting different natural and thematic zones into one comfortable system. The zones smoothly flow into one another, forming interesting and rich routes in the park, accessible to everyone.

Involve: most of all final visualizations, 3d-modeling, some stairs design, some architecture objects design [Collaborative with KOSMOS Architects]

One of the Europan competition’s site was Aalst city with main revitalization topic. The Dender river runs in the middel of the city and collects along its quays a fascinating industrial history and heritage. These quays stretch for of 2.7 km and offer many opportunities for more interwoven economical activities and diversity of functions. The northern part of this strategic zone along the Dender river is selected as the Europan site and is representative of the overal transformation of the former industrial quays in Aalst, but also many other European industrial waterfronts. Our site becomes an alternative center of Aalst. Its urban structure is analogous to the historical city center, and programmatically it is a design-product-sell center of a city. The concept of the territory offers a porous structure with a high degree of permeability, use and activity without demolishing existing buildings. Mixed use, high density, circular economy and rational attitude to heritage is a core approach to a site. Concept is intented to raise economic attractiveness of the site and reconnect it to the city. The functional content of the site corresponds to the heritage of the place and the existing request for a creative cluster in the city of Aalst.

Integration through connection The territory of Tragel is opened to the city by adding new connections. The core of public spaces is developing from a small square on the other side of the railway line to the river bank on the western fringes of the site and offers a new pedestrian link between Aalst city center and the western parts of the city. The main street of the project is a car-free pedestrian space and a meeting and recreation place for residents of the district and the whole city. This street passes through 3 new squares, each with its own identity and combination of functions of the buildings facing the square.

68 | Europan 16 "Aalst Reyard production"

Circular economy

Production core and public «shell»

Unique location of a plot between the river and the train line is used as an advantage for creative industries that rely on supply of materials. Supply, production process, storage, recycle and distribution is concentrated on a small territory near city centre that rises its efficiency. One of quarters of the plot that is situated on the North edge of the site is used as a Storage hub. Hub is connected to a riverbank and a train line by system of bridges above ground. All the materials that are needed in production circle are stored in a Hub, and distributed on the plot to production quarters where small creative businesses, recycle design workshops are situated.

All buildings that exist on the lot are left in their current state of "as they are". The voids between the old production buildings and warehouses are filled with new buildings. The new development complements the existing structures on the site and organizes city blocks on a scale similar to the traditional Aalst blocks. The current buildings are used as a "production core" and are surrounded by a new "public envelope" development. The "shell" is complemented by existing buildings in 6 blocks of the traditional city scale for Aalst. As the city of Aalst develops, the core of the quarter can be demolished and replaced with new, denser buildings for various purposes.
