introduction

concept

This is the continuation of Project 2. Students are required to design a travel lodge project at Bandar Melaka. The travel lodge will rented to local and oversea travelers who are looking for better accommodation whenever they are away from home in order to have a comfortable stay while on business travels or holiday tours.

hypothesis The theory is that melaka needs a new energy that can bring benefits to the city towards achieving the vision of future and technology city. The key tool for this project is to inject program for backpackers by using the guidelines given and their own knowledge to reinvent the collective and reclaim the maximum potential of the local surrounding as highest it possibility can go. Injecting program for culture exhange centre in lodge for backpackers with enough space and facility for accomodation, entertainment and culture purpose for local and tourist, community, tourist to active the sense of dynamic energy of the place.

ZEIGEST

The concept is inspired by the idea of ZONING and EXPERIENCE as the principle of Martin Heidegger, C.Norberg Schulz and Keneth Frampton, a mover and creator of philosophy phenomenology architecture. This quote comes to realization that a point “start” to become a experience just as a circulation “experience” to become a column. At is most basic level, this seems to be a simple notion, but there is much to learn by stopping for a moment to contemplate its possible meanings. The space can then as a “PLUG IN” become the culmination of that user’s steps through the spaces. Hence, in its simplest form, the circulation route may begin to define a physical and experiential journey for the sense through an architectural space(s) An approarch to architecture the strives to counter the placelessness of melaka and lack of meaning by using contextual forces to give a sense of place and meaning

The purposed build form and open spaces will promote new activities and assembly area that can be suited for both young and community program

9. BREATHING WITH SITE

The building relates itself with the fluxes of the surroundings, expanding its identity, approaching the town of Melaka, welcoming and beyond its physical limits.

Located in the heart of Malacca town, Backpackers hotel represents the character of earth in its true sense. The 4500 sqm backpackers hotel rests on the edge of the town, in a crowded zone, and within the heart of nature. There were five malacca trees in this h o t e l . The backpackers hotel has an urban touch to its exterior, with contemporary luxuries of the the modern day, it beautifully amalgamates the yet traditional spaces within. It comprises of typical malacca features like architectural facade, space, courtyards and connection to nature, an inseparable part of tropical architecture.

Tropical Modernism A design movement in which sensitivity for local context combines with the form-making principles of modernism. This building led to the formation of a new architectural identity and aesthetic for many tropical environments use of traditional building materials and architectural elements adapted to the local climate proved to be useful, as it helped keep costs down in addition to referencing local context. It was here that experimented with interplay between building and landscape, between inside and outside space.
