“Practice and Theory are its parents. Practice is the frequent and continued contemplation of the mode of executing any given work, or of the mere operation of the hands, for the conversion of the material in the best and readiest way. Theory is the result of that reasoning which demonstrates and explains that the material wrought has been so converted to answer the end proposed. - Marcus Vitruvius Pollio (ca.90-20 BCE) : De Architectura

Graffiti & Street Art by definition. There is a distinctive thin line between the definition of Graffiti and Street Art. Street art is an art form with contemporary graffiti inheritance (Najjar 2015). The origin definition of graffiti is a form of expression and free activities that has been dominated by the youth community that against the conventional culture (Westendorf 2010). Graffiti has become one of the key element and form of intersection value of the urban space’s aesthetic value (Libo Yana 2015). Eventually, street art became a highly legit form of art expression, after graffiti first established its appearance, where graffiti targeted its own community, while street art focus on the public (Westendorf 2010). Graffiti is likely to connect more significantly towards the reaction of contemporary culture and may be artful in its visual representation (Specker 2018) whereas the purpose of street art as stated by (Rodrigues 2018) is to offers openings into discussion of current issues, social justice, gender, poverty, sexuality and politics through its public critique of societal norms.

Integration of Graffiti & Street Art in Public Spaces within Urban Context.

Rapid urbanization and increased competition between cities from all over the world has promote art and culture to be one of the key elements used by cities world-wide as tools to enhance the image of the city while improving the attractiveness of the urban spaces (Pauline Guinard 2018). Due to this current scenario, place marketing has turn into a vital priority of urban planners who needs to enhance the identity and image of the city to attract tourist, investors, students and workers from creative industry (Pauline Guinard 2018). Therefore, graffiti or any art especially installed in public spaces has been utilized and gain a greater role to promote the city (Pauline Guinard 2018).

Development of Graffiti & Street Art Graffiti and street art has evolved from an illegal-basis activity defacement of public or private property to an exclusive and highly legitimate artwork. It has undergoes a tremendous positive development that defies easy definition and often placed in public spaces within urban context and attracted by an unauthorized spectators (Riggle 2010). According to (Berleant 1997), public tend to easily engage in their environment since a constant observation and interpretation of the symbolical values of each places they visited. Therefore, by having graffiti and street art implemented in public spaces, it can transform the aesthetical value of the urban spaces, and will be able to establish a new singular or collective experience towards the public in the city (Pauline Guinard 2018).

To establish new Street Art’s landmark With the new Montana Colors’s nest in the map, the graffiti & street art scene will be enhanced, while promoting the culture by projecting various activities to encourage vibrant energy while engaging with potential clients & external body.

Compact site area The intersecting point is relatively cramp and pack, thus require extra attention during the construction period.

Located near various embassy in Taman U-Thant While having strategic commercial value, which located just along Jalan Ampang, the proposed site is basically surrounded with embassy from various country. This constraint can be turn into opportunity, as the new landmark will highlight the beautiful side of graffiti & street art among foreigners & visitors.

The environment control from spray paint’s hazardous To overcome this constraint, a well designed landscape elements (trees & shrubs) will be utilized to absorb the dust while reducing the smell of the spray cans. Proper ventilation is crucial during the design stage.

Roles of Street Art in Urban Context. Sun Shading

With the emerging scene of graffiti and street art in this century, it serves a multiple purpose towards its surrounding, especially public arts that has been implemented within urban context. It provides rationale towards in enhancing the quality of living environment, and at the same time reflecting while expressing city’s identity (Council. 2010). Furthermore, graffiti and street art also highlights the celebration of significant people, places and act as a storyteller of a city’s history. Thus, contributing to a sense of belonging and pride towards the citizen and public community (Muhammad Falihin Jasmi 2016).

Urban Space & Place In a context of urban, how do we recognize a successful space? According to (Cullen 1961), a great space is where the designer place the strongest emphasis on physical urban aspects – ornamentation, design styles and urban intervention approach, the way building welcoming out into spaces, gateways, vistas and landmarks. He mentioned that this is the most rational objective classical perspective view of an urban design. A psychology of place plays a vital role in enhancing the essence of urban context. According to (Alexander 1979) or (Lynch 1960), psychology of place, will wrapped up in the idea of ‘mental maps’ which people utilize it as an internal guidance towards urban places. Public will tend to rely on their basic senses to communicate with them whether a place feels secured, comfortable, threatening, vibrant or dangerous.

Breathable space story-telling.

When beauty meets efficiency.

According to Thoring.K (2018), 5 design aspects need to be considered and she for aligned them for designer to design a creative spaces in any type of buildings that requires such a vas amount of creative energy. These are : Personal space, Collaborative space, Exhibition space, Play-space, Transition space.

In Architecture, is defined as a link or a connecting space between two enclosed spaces. It is a space of experience between the inner and the outer worlds; an intermediate or a third space. It is understood as a ‘buffer zone’ or a passage from inside to outside. They act as both a buffer space and a physical link.

Modular architecture or “modularity in design” is a design approach that subdivides a system into smaller parts called modules or skids that can be independently created and then used in different systems. A modular system is characterized by functional partitioning into discrete scalable and reusable modules, rigorous use of well-defined modular interfaces and making use of industry standards for interfaces.

Space Typology

Story Telling & Narrative Approach - Facilititate knowledge during the journey from one space to another - Display the knowledge of general interest for overall target user

They are mainly used to reduce cost and when as per soil condition consideration, it is most favourable to transmit loads to soil strata which are beyond the the reach of shallow foundations. Pile is a slender member with a small crosssectional area compared to its length, it is used to a deeper soil or rock strata when the bearing capapacity of soil is relatively low. Pile transmits load either by skin friction or bearing. Piles are also being utilized against uplift and provide structures stability against lateral and overturning forces.

Water Capacity Calculation Ground Floor - 3rd Floor

Introduction For this building, the water supply system that has been implemented is Gravitational Downfeed Distribution System. The source of the water supply provided by the authority, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (SYABAS) through typical trenching. Direct Connection Subsequently, the spaces that requires clean water such as kitchen, food preparation area and cafes will be directly connected to the main pipe. This is due to hygenic matters, for the purpose of preparing food and beverages. Indirect Connection For sanitary purposes, such as toilet, sink, toilet pump & cleaning etc, the water is supplied directly from the suction tank to the domestic tank. From the domestic tank, (located on the higher level) the water will be then distibuted by gravitational force. Some of the water also will be directly connected from the suction tank to the sprinkler tank for active provision. The volume of the suction tank is 1/3 of total supply needed for the domestic tank

The premise’s sewerage system is practically connected to a public sewerage treatment plant that is operated and maintainde by Indah Water Konsortium Sdn. Bhd. (IWK) The particular diagram shows the basic flow of the sewerage and waste water from premise’s toilets, bathroom and kitchen to the public sewerage treatment plant in daily basis. The sewerage will goes into internal (private sewerage) pipelines into the underground public sewerage pipeling, then the effluent will be released back into the waterways.

The traditional bucket collector system for waste collection involved plenty of vehicles and labors which involving a lots of unpleasent, unsightly, unhealty inconveninent and difficult to be intergrated in a building automation system. A central vacuum system is a new trend to build ip an Automated Wasted Collect System intergrated with concealed pipes around the buildings. This system offers an efficient and perpetually quality of waste distribution.

Air Conditioning System Introduction Centralize Sustem Refrigerant is cooled in the plant room and distributed to the air handling unit (AHU) located in different room(s) at different level(s)/zone(s). Treated & cooled air is supplied from the AHU to the rooms in the same level/zone via the ducts. The system is choosed because it will operate during operational hour. The main components of this system are the refrigeration plant, AHU and cooling tower Split System The most popular type of AC nowadays: silent operation, elegant looks, & no need to make a hole in the wall. Consist of two components – an outdoor unit (condenser) and one or several indoor units (evaporator/AHU) connected by copper tubing. For multi split system, the outdoor unit can support several indoor unit. The zone will be operate for 24 hours.

Automated System With technology intelligently match energy generation , energy distribution, air conditioning, and heat recovery to ensure that energy is used in a manner that saves resources and costs. The measurements are supplied by a large number of sensors for temperature, air humidity, pressure, and air flow in decentralized systems, machines, and rooms. With the help of this data, the automation system monitors, controls and regulates the technical systems. At a higher management level of building autmation, all information is compiled and evaluated and the economical operation of the entire building is optimized

Advantages of Split System

Air Conditioning System

- Low initial cost, less noise and ease of installation - Good alternative to ducted systems - Each system is totally independent and has its own control - Suitable for small areas/ rooms - Installation is less disruptive to other unrelated areas - This system does not contribute much to distribution of smoke in occurrence of fire

Although the cultural city of Kota Bharu is about 70 % redefined, its focus on tourism has not been fully emphasised in the total planning doctrine embedded in the referred outlines. The strategies to achieve tourismfriendly city based on the tourism city concept are more inclined toward projecting mnemonic capitalism and private residential urban form rather than in the production of public activities that fulfill the requirements of a vibrant lived-in City. The desired physical and spatial form and structure of the completed buildings of the various areas have not achieved the expected image of an Eco-Tourism city mainly due to the over emphasis in the extensive network of traffic roads and also partly due to the lack of connecting pockets of open spaces in the restoration areas. Furthermore, in the absence of elements that indicate successful place making, Kota Bharu can lose the urbanity qualities and eventually becomes dull in character like any other ordinary Malaysian cities built form. As most of the existing shop houses have been transformed into other public oriented programmes, the surrounding vicinity are not being re-established properly. These buildings have much potential as the main design catalyst for its neighborhood. We believe urban design re-intervention based on successful models and innovative strategies, can support the development of a tourism-friendly environment, which then can revitalize the ‘weak part’ of the city.

Project Statement To enhance the potential of Kota Bharu as one of the leading state in arts & culture, thus, generate more income and positive results towards local community and tourism expansion. henceforth, the approach for the maximum intergration of the cultural and art centre in Kota Bharu turn out to be a booster that will create a strong community development towards positive change This project aimed to be the catalyst in the future of art scene and development by focusing territory in Kelantan region as to create a new landmarks that will initiate the tourism development and attraction. this project also to help kelantan to be one of the leading state in arts and culture, thus enhancing the profit and act as an income generator for the nation.

“ The conservative city of Kota Bharu is the capital of the state of Kelantan. Kelantan is part of a federation where an Islamic majority party is in power for many years. These Islamic influences are still clearly visible in the daily street life. The city is situated in the north of the Peninsular Malaysia, close to the southern Thai border. The cities at the east side of the peninsula show a different aspect of Malaysia. In this area the Muslim culture influences daily life in every level. “ - Wonderful Malaysia, 2017

prediction & future anticipation

“The first is jobs that involve genuine creativity, such as being an artist, being a scientist, developing a new business strategy”. Martin Ford - Futurist, Author

The first is jobs that involve “genuine creativity, such as being an artist, being a scientist, developing a new business strategy”. Ford notes: “For now, humans are still best at creativity but there’s a caveat there. I can’t guarantee you that in 20 years a computer won’t be the most creative entity on the planet. There are already computers that can paint original works of art. So, in 20 years who knows how far it’s going to go?” The second area is occupations that involve building complex relationships with people: nurses, for example, or a business role that requires you to build close relationships with clients. The third area is jobs that are highly unpredictable – for example, if you’re a plumber who is called out to emergencies in different locations.

The development of the Donut in 1997 wasn’t any less important either; the color ring that revolutionized the way to identify colors on spray cans. We recently introduced Montana Colors Water Based, a water-based product that has been a true breakthrough in the world of spray painting.

Sustainable development & green approach Since the creation of Montana Colors in 1994 and in following the philosophy of its founders, we have maintained our commitment to guarantee the highest standards with regards to environmental preservation and user health in all of our products. Second Act. Work Compilation. Concrete Canvas 1.0 Urban : Tetriception Urban Intervention - Kelantan 2050 Studio Master Panels

: Fairuz Reza Razali : PM Syed Sobri Zubir : Jamsyid Idrus : AR Fariez Helmi

Project Brief. The main focus of this exercise is to catalogue ideas and generate urban design proposals that meet the prescribed themes outlined for a Eco - Toursm City. As for the city of KB, to project an identifiable urban form that recalls mnemonic meanings of a tourism-based city that encapsulate the idea of regionalism is warranted. From this exercise new urban design ideas can be generated as alternative solutions in modeling walkable and livable communities for KB in the near future. The urban design process for this intervention exercise is based on a synoptic method so as rational strategies could be realised and transformed into a reflexive program. As this research and design project makes use of multiple sources of evidence, a mixed-methodology model is adopted. It is a combination of historical interpretative strategy as well as qualitative and quantitative strategies. Participants will look for the existing built forms and existing scenario and programs; and its impact to the surrounding neighborhood when the prediction of new programs re-emerged. The observation and analysis must be recorded precisely to show the existing urban physical and cultural context, geometries, programmes, users and etc.

Project Brief. The assignment was to propose a catalytic idea of an alternative to a theme park that is exempted from entertainment tax. The project is for a 77.8-acre plot of land located in Sunway Iskandar at the Gulf of Sungai Pendas and along the straits of Johore. Sunway Iskandar has open this project for us to further explore the potentialities of Iskandar Johor and its potential market with Sunway Odyssey (our proposal) that will be further elaborated on within this report. With the future in mind, and education and innovation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) at the forefront, this report showcases an intensive portfolio of programmes that can both boost tourism and Sunway’s market revenue, at the same time, instilling wonder and curiosity among the citizens and all visitors on the wonder of the future. Sunway prides itself as an acting launching pad in education and Sunway Odyssey acts as a socially responsible branch of Sunway in spreading curiosity in STEM and thus encouraging education. Allowing education and entertainment to merge and fun for people of all ages. At the same time encouraging and providing a platform for innovative creators and scientist in showcasing their research and inventions. This report is to showcase our proposal on Sunway Odyssey to the best of our capabilities in hopes the proposal to be accepted. We hope this proposal to exhibit the message and potential of Sunway Iskandar and how it can contribute to Sunway as a brand. This proposal reflects the expressive and dynamic imaginations of all the members of the team and all other contributors.

86

Sunway Odyssey, a brand. This futuristic development provides a platform for scholars, scientists and all other professions with future in mind, to explore and express their expertise. However, people of all aspects of life, young and old, are still to be able to enjoy and learn from the experience. With the futuristic theme park built around the existing nature blanket of the site, the development transcends both the concept of nature and the futuristic aspects of ‘tomorrow’. This further puts Kota Iskandar and Sunway as a launching pad for education. Sunway Odyssey is a wholly owned subsidiary of SUNWAY that acts as a not-for-profit set up extending SUNWAY’s commitment as a socially responsible corporate body in providing a rich and stimulating environment aimed to enhance science literacy and passion for acquiring knowledge for the betterment of our future. This further puts Kota Iskandar and Sunway as a launching pad for education.

Third Act. Competitions. The Transition Arch-Out Loud Design Challange Waste: Multi-Purpose Stadium in Lagos Nigeria Studio Master Team Members

: Ar. Hajah Puteri Mayang Bahjah : Amirul Shah Mumfahir : Haikal Yunus bin Al Rasheed : Che Muhammad Harith Che Harun

Project Brief. Arch-Out Loud asks participants to design a new multi-purpose stadium at the former Olusosun Landfill. How could this massive structure, known to be wasteful in its resources, limited lifespan, and inconsistent usage, confront critical issues of waste in Lagos while sited on a former landfill? Designers are encouraged to consider how the stadium might act as a porous entity, serving as both a world-class sporting facility and local commodity. Participants should consider how the stadium could serve as an anchor for the rehabilitated site and function during times when sporting events are not in session. In order for the new proposal to avoid becoming another wasteful stadium, what local benefits could the stadium offer to a city burdened by issues such as lack of electricity, poor educational facilities, insufficient housing, regular flooding, and lack of drinkable water?

94

Stadium, the multiple typologies. Stadiums are both an icon for a community and business enterprise. Generally, they are used for a couple of hours a day, for a few events a year, which can be economically straining for developing countries, such as Lagos, by wasting plots of development. Instead of depriving citizens the opportunity to attend sporting and arena events by banning stadiums, the stadium typology for Lagos should be rethought to be both accommodating and sensitive to such places. By combining the traditional stadium program with another supplementary permanent program, the structure could accommodate events year round. This potential typology could meet the needs of the entire community by creating a mini city center within their neighborhood and a more sustainable approach to stadium design.

95

Concrete Canvas.

96

Lagos National Stadium Futbol (soccer) remains the No. 1 sport in the world, with the largest international fan base. Attending futbol matches instills a sense of pride for local populations. The stadiums that house these spectacles become a symbol of national pride and togetherness. Despite such opportunity, stadiums fall under major scrutiny due to their limited shelf-life, sparse usage, and disruptive size; making them almost impossible for reuse. Moreover, often within 10-20 years, stadium infrastructure can degenerate. If not well maintained, they become seldomly used, unsafe for events, and ultimately abandoned. At its peak, Lagos National Stadium was one of the best in Africa, until it fell victim to neglect. It last hosted a major football match in 2002, and for the past 15 years, it has been abandoned without proper maintenance or events. It is now mostly occupied by squatters. With a lack of state-of-the-art stadiums, Lagos is losing athletes to other countries. Resulting in government plans to build five new stadia to promote sports excellence and tourism.

Project Brief The master plan for New York City formulated in the Commissioners’ Plan of 1811, a proposal by the state legislature of New York for the development of most of Manhattan above Houston Street, well known and became an icon to the whole world. The design must reward foot travel by providing a distinctive experience that transports the user into a different place, encouraging its use as the desired mode of daily travel. It also demonstrates the potential such projects have to revolutionize urban landscapes by serving not just as places for public recreation, but also, when properly designed, as preferred modes of travel for commuters to use on a daily basis.

Other Creative Works Professional Graffiti & Street Artist Asmoe. A young Graffiti Writer who defines his own identity by utilizing graffiti letters as the daredevil weaponry on the scene. Born in Malacca & raised in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, he started to splash the walls with colors since 2011. Ever since then, Asmoe has been exploring and experimenting with multiple styles and elements which are handsomely infused into his pieces. It is an attempt to exquisitely discover his perspective & individual personality in the game. Shouldering an Architect job at a local firm on one hand while dedicatedly dazzling others with his graffiti strokes on the other, Asmoe’s art form and letter flow are mainly inspired by architectural vocabulary & terminologies. With regards to Semi-Wildstyle, he is meticulous in minimizing unnecessary elements from his piece. To him, great letters come with solid understanding of the basic foundations and styles. Over the years, Asmoe’s evolved pieces & sketches have been featured in numerous blogs, media pages and interviews. In fact, sketching is part of his daily life & gradually, his blackbooks have helped him to identify his own graffiti style. Graffiti for him is much more than painting pretty things on the walls or getting paid & famous. It is about passion, powerful bond between the communities who share the mutual interest to augment respective self-potential, globally.
