Alcoy is a town inland on the Spanish Costa Blanca and they have just recorded their sixth case of legionnaires ´disease in a month .This is sparking off more fears of another outbreak in the town .The latest involves a patient who was released from La Fe hospital in Valencia having gone there for a totally different complaint .During the first 2 weeks of July the regional health department detected five cases .As each one was diagnosed the verdict was that each was an isolated case and was not related in any way at all . The six cases have now caused various bodies in the town associated with health issues , to meet and evaluate the situation .They were hoping to work out how to remedy the situation . Three of the first five victims live in the same area of the town , while the other two were each from different areas .Because of the distances involved they have ruled out that this is another outbreak of the disease .Consequently no action will now be taken and each will be determined and treated individually . There will be tighter controls on road resurfacing and the water sprays used in these processes .There will also be restrictions on the washing down of streets plus the watering of gardens and parks .The care and maintenance of industrial refrigeration units will also be looked at .No extra chlorine will be added to the town´s drinking water because there are no indications that the disease is spreading .
