A study has been carried out in Alicante by the Provincial Court .They were looking at the habits of people who had been convicted of dangerous driving and they discovered that 50% of them took risks because of the thrill that it gave them .They did it for kicks .The people being questioned were undergoing a re-education course to correct their bad driving habits .They all volunteered to answer the questionnaire which was designed to detect such behaviour . So behind their bad driving there was a behavioural problem that almost forced them to take these risks .They were seeking thrills .Many of these people do have medical problems .Some suffer attention disorders and this caused them to take impulsive action while driving .No amount of fining would change this problem . There were 38 people studied and the majority had been convicted of drink driving . These people would overtake dangerously and speed inappropriately . Yet over 71% of those questioned denied being impulsive . The various campaigns that are run to try and improve driving and reduce accidents , such as wearing a seat belt or not using a mobile phone , just egg these people on to take even more risks . The Provincial court concluded that the only answer here was to provide treatment for them or some type of rehabilitation programme .
