There are , officially 1.9 million officially registered residents in Alicante province , of whom 469,417 were born outside Spain ( 24% ) .The majority of these are EU citizens ( 63% ) Foreign workers are laid off work much more quickly that Spanish residents according to this recent survey and males from outside the EU are the most likely to lose their jobs . New government regulations make it much harder for them and their families to remain .Many find it almost impossible to legalise their position .
