The Foietes area of Benidorm on the Spanish Costa Blanca has long awaited the go-ahead to become the ” green lung ” of Benidorm and at last it has been given the go-ahead to be put out to tender by the regional government . The original idea was put forward by the then regional president Francisco Camps in 2009 .The idea was to restore and improve a surface of more than 115,000 square metres of Foietes ravine at a cost of 2.3 million euros . If everything goes to plan then the work could begin before the end of 2014 and be completed within a year . The plans also include designating a further 20,000 square metres for a public car park with a capacity for almost 700 cars . The Benidorm council first had the idea for an urban park in 1990 , acting as this ” green lung ” as part of the town´s ” town plan ” .Land had to be purchased from surrounding land owners at a cost of 2 million euros . One particular purchase cost them a lot more than the 270,000 that they originally thought it would cost and in the end they had to pay 10 times more for it .On top of this they had to pay 1.4 million in interest because of delays . Hopefully when completed the new park area will be a very welcome addition to that particular part of the town . Check Out The Full Indepth Details Here: Benidorm | Green Belt Gets Underway
