A stronger police presence in bars in Benidorm on the Spanish Costa Blanca has reduced noise levels in late night bars .This has been a deliberate measure by the Benidorm council and the Policia Local . Many complaints have been coming in about the noise from residents who live nearby .Evenso the police were still called out 309 times compared with 349 last year .That is better but not that much better . 224 complaints were dealt with and of those 99 were upheld after monitoring proved positive for excessive noise levels This was far less than the same time last year when 188 were upheld . So this year there might have been a reduction in the number of fines for excessive noise but there was an increase in the level of fines for establishments operating without a license and for exceeding opening hours or for illegally manipulating noise level monitors . The police chief praised his officers for working very hard this summer .He also said that he felt that the effort that his men made needed to be recognised . What residents don´t want to happen is for these late night bars to slip back into their noisy ways during the winter months .
